This week I continue grinding away on my 359 Peterbilt Project I’ve named Little by Little in an effort to get the bodywork completed and painted this summer. I attempt to install new rivnet nuts for the exhaust brackets and give a new tool a try that I picked up on Amazon, did a bunch more sanding, then got distracted when the FedEX truck arrived and finally got the new old school visor from Beger Industries mounted - looks awesome!

Hi Mark, I would use the inserts for your visor. If you ever had to replace a windshield you have to take the visor off. It is much easier to unscrew the bolts than it is to grind off the rivets. Just a thought. Can't wait to see it finished.
I hate to say it but filling those holes with body filler and sanding the surface flat is probably going to come back and haunt you later....it will probable pop/crack at the hole as things flex/vibrate. The best course of action if you want to fill and not weld is bond something such as a small piece of aluminum in behind the hole to seal it, make the outer edge of the whole slightly concave with a light tap of the ball end of a ballpeen hammer then fill after scuffing the surface, this way it backs the hole and gives something for the filler to adhere too and you're not just creating a filler plug.
💯 also i really wish he would use an air board instead of a da sander for doing big flat surfaces , that's gonna have more waves than the pacific ocean sanding body filler with such a small and aggressive sander
Mark those holes will have to be welded fiberglass standed bondo wont work. Do it right
Love the videos Mark. Coming from a long time body man, you don’t want to fill holes with just filler. It will eventually crack and fall out. Go the extra mile and weld or epoxy a washer or something to reinforce the back then fill the holes.
OK, am I the only one that is screaming at the screen saying the fenders unbolt you can unbolt them off the hood so you can get between them easier
I’ve had the fenders off on the last hood if you go back a bunch of episodes and that’s a lot of work to cut off a dozen hucks on each side #juiceinstworththesqueeze
@@TwinStix OK I didn’t know that I think I was thinking about was the reaction between the two different paints because you have a chemical reaction that will bubble right there
Well its always his project, right or wrong he can do it his way, but to be honest, he probably should just unbolt them and do it better.
@paulwiley9102 they're hucked not bolted
Mark that visor looks super sweet! Can't wait to see it all complete. For painting, have you considered parking the truck under the car hoist? That would be a super stable and safe platform for you to work, plus it would give you a huge range of heights to work with.
Not a bad idea 🤔
@@TwinStix I have my moments... 🤣
Mornin Mark, I like the old style visor, the right shape and just the right amount of shine, Thanks for sharing your tips in your video's Mark I got another one from you in this video I'm sure I'm going to use, Have a great week Mark say hello to Mrs. Twin stix for us .
Love the old school visor Mark.
You getting there
slowly but steady
on LBL. It will be
nice when it's
finished.
Bonjour Superbe job Bon courage pour la suite et j'attends avec impatience la prochaine vidéo -- Alain
Glad your giving made props to truck shrouds, they were the nicest and most helpful when I ordered and needed help. Also you can take those fenders off for proper prep and paint.
I like the look with the shroud on top of little by little it gives that old. Look especially with the new stainless visor for the windshield it's awesome you're doing a very well job keep it up Mark
Lookin Good Dryver!! Stay Strapped. 🇺🇸🏴☠️🏁🍺
Don't no much about American trucks but leaning slowly every day a school day Mark love yer videos bud I am from UK
I always reed an Opsrating instructions, every time, oh if it helped, I was yelling that you need to put something behind where you're going to use filter, soys you can sand ladder, 😁and when you were working on the front fender, that chrome insert sure would look great with that blue paint.🙂Thanks for the video Mark, take care see ya next one.🙃
Mark, I have to say I’m a fan of the old ac on top look. With that beautiful visor it would really look good. Another great episode!
Mark you have a huck gun. Cut the hucks and remove the fenders and get the hood behind it.
Since you used Bondo Glass on the cab corners how about sealing the insides underneath with zinc chromate allowing it to dry overnight then cover with 3m Rubberized spray to have a air tight seal, just a thought!!!
Well, gee, Mark! You should always pead the opsrating instructions. 🤣🤣🤣 The box may also be marked "Make in China".
AC condenser behind the grill is a good idea. Kenworth thought it was a great idea and they had their "Grilldenser", built as a part of the grill. Once again, Peterbilt is trying to catch up to KW. 😁
That is a good looking visor. The truck is going to look awesome when you are done.
Good morning friends !! Here we go!! Great video as usual mark!! Shes coming along
Love the new "eyebrow" visor ;)
Hi Mark & it's is Randy and i like yours video is Cool & Thank Mark & Friends Randy
Hey man, I know it sounds like a good idea to weld those whole shit but 3 AM. Makes some really amazing panel bond that you could use to put small aluminum panels behind the large holes and fill them on the outside. All of your late model cars and trucks today are assembled with panel bond and I have found it to be most useful to me in my auto restoration business. Keep up the good work.
Mark I think you should get watermelon lights that hold 3157 bulbs for back of the bunk, air cleaners and chicken lights. 2 with a 2 foot gap on the bottom of the cab, and 2 with a 3 foot gap on bottom of sleeper… not an old school light but an old school look!
That visor.. 👌 Perfect
In Australia where it's hot, we still run the roof mount air conditioning. It's called a Red Dot. Obviously the cover is different over the years
Love that visor
Awesome visor ❤❤❤❤❤
Just a suggestion Mark leave the holes and just paint over them , then just use black rubber grommets to fill in holes. It would look factory and they could be used later on for accessories.
If you watch Mike the truck nut the Peterbilt ones are sealed on the back. Keeps corrosion out of the threads. And the best way to squeeze the insert is to use a stud and nut and washer. Hold the stud and turn the nut. Keeps from damaging the threads.
Great Episode Mark keep up the great work LBL is making a comeback!!!
Hi Mark you have to put the ac and cover on top of the roof oh that takes me back to the days when I started driving. I’m like you can’t wait till it’s finished to see it.
Hay mark as you were talking about the condenser covers, I noticed the picture on the wall behind you of the BJ and the bear in the moving on truck. Nice picture. Keep up the good work.
Little sandblaster with a soft medium to blast around the rivets and hard to get crevices to remove paint. Problem with roof condensers is cold air goes directly on your head and you get cold air. Red Dot roof condensers are very common in Australia. You can buy them new and heaps of parts available including fibreglass cover.
Love the little by little episodes
It is another Thursday!... I love it
Loving the progress! 💪
Look for a hand held riv nut tool
Loved it. Awsome visor.
Cool
Looking good Mark
Lookin good sir.👍👍
Mark, when nipping up rivnuts without using the correct tool you want your spacing socket/bit of tubingetc. to be resting on the front flange of the rivnut, not on the face of the material.
Can't wait to see her when she's all pretty and blue... c'mon wooooooo 🤙🤘❤✝️🇨🇦🇺🇸💙✝️
Good job Bos
nice job yet again, loved the vid mark ,m the UK.
LBL looks great with the condenser up there
LBL. The truck so nice he did it twice... 😂😂😂. Lookin 👌 mark. ❤ from pnw oregon
i do paintless dent repair.my trainer had a long nozed pete this week we took off hood and set it on floor aluminium hood 100 dents on top from rolling through texas in storms when it was done looked like nothing ever happened.owner allowed 2 holes to be drilled through grille cause he was wanting a new grille anyways which helped alot.but saved his shiny paint 10 hours 5800 dollars.most petes are hard cause the clear delaminants from sun hard to fix dents if you caint see them whitish look
The type of metal makes a difference. Stainless is much harder to collapse. I used to use threaded rod and nuts inside (if Possible) and out. Using the outside nut to pull them up.
Bet the rivet gun was designed for aluminum thread inserts. The stainless inserts take a lot more draw power to get them to crimp fully.
You do know when Blake welds the holes where you put the bondo the bondo will fall out or catch on fire. You should have waited on filling them in until after the welding was done.
Mark i have been a subscriber every since you bought LBL and enjoy watching very much , I started driving in 1984 - 2012 started as company and then bought my first truck (50th anniversary 379x with 444 Cummins)
And then a W900 arodyne 1 sleeper(the original sleeper) until an accident left me in a wheelchair)
But I’ve always been partial to a 359 and I love yours and truckshrouds did an amazing job with cover I think it would look great on LBL . Keep up the great work. TJ
man! lbl is looking great!
👍👍👍👍👍👍
It's a shame you can't put the air conditioner back on the roof because I think it looks really cool with the new sun visor it just looks bad ass 😎
mark when you paint the sleeper you might wanna get someone else and tag team the roof at the same time to avoid streaking
😎👍
The visor looks nice Mark. It's certainly been polished a lot better than the so called polished factory visors
that Pete put on the trucks back in the 70's and 80's. I detest drop visors that cover almost half of the windshield.
I know you like the straight stacks, but personally I like mufflers with the factory heat shields and grab handles.
I've heard that there isn't anyone making reproduction factory heat shields, and it would be next to impossible
to find original shields that are like new.
Looking at your reproduction a/c condenser cover got me thinking about the availability of factory heat shields.
Maybe that's something that they could start making. I have no doubt that there would be a big market for them.
Your new cover looks a lot better made than the original covers. They were a little flimsy and didn't hold up very
well sometimes.
I still like the look of having the cover on the roof. I've been around trucks since I was born in 1961, and that's
how trucks were that had a/c. I started driving truck when I was 18 (1979) and by that time Kenworth came out
with their "Grilldenser" system that did away with the roof mount... I remember Freightliner kept using the roof
mounted system for a while, but I can't remember when they stopped.
Hi Mark, with ref to the holes in the cab corners.. could you not just Huck Bolt them and make it a feature on the cab skin.. save trying to fill em with glass fiber .. that might crack with the cab stressing / moving about .. Keep up the Cracking good work on the Old Girls .. Andy UK ..
Wish you had went with louder 6" pipes more old school but the blue cab and white fenders will make up for those 8" new def pipes
I had 6” pipes on this truck if you go back a bunch of episodes 👀 I think the sound of the 8’s is deeper and cooler👌
@@TwinStix yeah 6" and no mufflers with the Jake's down here in upper east tennessee nothing sounds better
Hi Mark all the way from Yorkshire England the better the preparation means better the paint finish 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻tape your shiny thing back up so no over spray on it
You should look into a used prep station for your body work, fan did work pretty well! Enjoyed the video!
Another great episode Mark.
I wonder could a 2 x 40 containers fit along the back of your shop that you could put a proper well sealed door into from your shop to allow you to use as store rooms wheel all stuff out of way when not in use. Keep you shiny parts clean when you sanding and spraying.. Clear lots of space and be less covers for overspray. Just an idea for a winter project.
Lots of new Kenworths here in Australia with roof mounted condensers, standard ones just can't cope with our high temperatures ..
Mark, ur 359 Pete Truck is almost getting to the point of getting some paint on Her. Nice touch on the chrome sun shield. looks cool..
Mr. twin sticks once again, a wonderful video learning so much about bodywork and different type of attachments. I’m painting my 1997 horse trailer and although that is not anyway comparable to your Peterbilt, it is an inspiration to sand just a little longer in the corners to do it, right I have come to conclusion that you are a lot like the scientist in the Manhattan project Paul Tibbetts, who was the pilot of Enola Gay and in charge of overall operations finally said let’s go to the Pacific with the dang thing because the scientist had gotten to the point they were no longer building a bomb. They were tinkering with it, and they felt who would never get done and look at this. I think the same thing you are just going to tinker and replace rivets and sand and tinker with thatand Truck will never be blue and you’re going to have so much fun
Mark lbl is going to look amazing.
Im surprised you didnt go with new fenders after going with new door skins cab corners and roof cap
Worked on many KT 19s and 38s plenty of power ,, start with a K .
seriously if you have a nice pete with hail on hood it can be done without painting and bondo.lots of people overlook them talented people
The best thing to place behind the holes for filer is screen material.
Hey Mark you already have a height adjustable and movable platform in your workshop you can use for painting the truck.........that's right your 4 post lift
Bite the bullet, don't be sketchy, and hire some scaffolding to spray properly. A pair of rolling scaf will get it done
I just use the hand rivet tool for the rivnuts
👍
Its all starting to come together . I think you should paint the back of the visor .
All old sunvisors from the 40's & 50's are painted drab green on the backside..
I think u should get those small holes welded!
It would suck if after it's complete somehow a hole pops out
That thin aluminum starts warping before I even get a puddle
You need to be careful with cheap nutserts. For your use, it should be fine. But if it was a working truck they don't pinch tight enough and will vibrate loose over time. The ones used from factory are different
With the bug shield and visor little by little looks mean . I'd keep the bug shield
Sorry I did not see video until “ Friday “ but it’s coming along just fine
Should have just used a spacer between the two exhaust brackets no hole drilling most likely you did not have to move the cab exhaust brackets since you are not using mufflers
Why no work Sunday, then we can have 2 episodes.
If the car is not on the lift you could use it as a platform to paint LBL. JUST A THOUGHT
Yeah I’m considering it 🤔
Did you not paint the sleeper from KW when it was off truck. You do have overhead crane, would be easy ti lift off & on,just a thought.Keep up the vids love them
When it comes to the etching primer and hi build get a etching primer paint pen for when you sand through to bare metal again
With that cab being mostly aluminum, I wonder if zinc chromate primer before the high build would be better than etching primer. Pick Mr. Blakes brain on what they use on aluminum aircraft for prep, I know that is what they use on the aluminum bodies Fords and other vehicles with aluminum hoods and whatnot. Pretty cool stuff.
I wouldn’t have filled the holes before the welding was done. Aluminum dissipates the heat quickly and I don’t think the filler will survive the heat.
It was warping before I could get a puddle to add fill
I still wish you’d remove the bug shield . That 359 hood looks so much better without it. They make aluminum hucks to put in the holes.
31:27 👀
Keep, the bug guard/ but in a blue lean plastic cover
On your date night, go easy on the jakes. It sounded like she was getting a little frustrated at you for using the jakes too much. 😉
Those holes can be aluminum brazed closed. Videos show pop cans being sucessfully closed.
Will the Bandit be done before spring? I know Ms Twin Sticks requested it to be done before spring so she could be your lead vehicle to shows.
Nah too much on the go right now … plan to have LBL painted and Iron Duke twin sticked this summer with the TA getting finished over the winter 🤔
Been better of bending up a small sheet of alum.then weld up all holes.i bet all bondo hole pop out or crack somewhere shortly down the rd.
Mark It's Coors : 30 !!!
There a fella in new Brunswick he makes all custom stainless steel you name it he can do it he made my window chops for my truck im already on the works to get him to make my new truck chrome next one im going all out not crazy just simple old school chrome and lights
Can you pass on his name?
paint her yellow with Winslow stripes
Ya need fan pushing and sucking air helps control dust better probably
Would it be worth it to take the bunk off of the truck so that you have better access while painting?
You’re going to regret using the fiberglass filler. It’s going to pop out.
to get those corner areas front to back removed, couldnt you use blasting and just be done. seems like it would be worth the $ (but its not my money, its yours)
