- It sure didn't take long for us to go picking out Gibson guitars again, and today's pick is a pristine 1964 SG Standard! The SG Standard of this year, if you're not aware, is very much associated with George Harrison of The Beatles and if you're wondering why, take a spin through the Revolver album - you'll hear one all over that record! A totally original guitar short of a new nut, this thing plays like a dream and has a huge sound to go with it. As Trevor states in the video, its got a great almost chunky neck profile, the unique Maestro vibrola provides some interesting tonal variety, and the pickups are fantastic as you'll hear when our friend Dan Phelps plugs this instrument into a 1962 Fender Super Amp!

Came for the gear, stayed for the chops. Superb player. This guy is amazing. Always a delight to hear. When he comes in, I don't even care about the gear that much... Kudos, bro'
Yes. REAL fine player. But that rig is up to the task ...
Gibson guitar, Fender amp. That's the holy grail for me.
Beautiful playing.
Nice choice..my sg and 58 super sound amazing together
Absolutely fantastic playing
Fantastic! Had the pleasure of playing a '64 through a Princeton of the same year at TR Crandall in NYC. Needless to say I was absolutely floored by the clarity and responsiveness of the pickups.
Yep, '64 is the last year where Patent No. humbuckers usually still have PAF clarity. I like the necks too: chunkier than the earlier "slim taper" shape.
Awesome vibe on that guitar. Glad you guys are back down out of the stratosphere with guitars us mere mortals can afford. Lol
Thank you for sticking around!
Don't get me wrong! The Bursts and that Nocaster were off the chain!
Boy, that is one nice rig.
Sounds great.!
An amazing sg.really dig the tones of this one.
Yes I love SGs..
Yust marvelous!
Whats your opinion about 1963 sg custom.please answer it too important for me.
This might be hard for some players to comprehend; but this is Gibson's "Stratocaster."
I truly hope some of your picks of the day will be Bass Guitars!
Gorgeous rig. I'm sure I cannot afford that; but I am equally sure that I would play it, if someone left it on my doorstep ...
I'll ditto that smart man's powerful verbiage ... And the doorstep has remained empty and barren across this past year ...
Yeah I think of George too when I see that one . Probably doing those killer riffs doubling with McCartney on And Your Bird Can Sing . Simultaneously raspy and jangly
George used his casino with Paul on that one. However, songs like rain, she said she said, doctor Robert, definitely the SG
Yeah whenever I see a 64 SG with a meastro bridge I think of Mr Harrison
@@ianbalish3852 I thought George taught that "Bird" to John, just before they started the session.
@@Tonetwisters definitely George and Paul on lead. John plays the rhythm
I would so love to own a 64 sg, but there's no way I'll pay $18,995.00 for it. That's a beautiful guitar you all have.
Makes the price of the current re-issue a bit easier to endure ...
I just inherited my great grandfather’s 64 SG Standard. It makes me want to learn to play again.
Quel son magnifique 👍👍
Laeti Khe oui magnifique 👍🏼
The first thing that came to my mind when he brought up George Harrison was the guitar tone from Taxman, unmistakable.
I definitely think about Clapton during the Cream days
Actually, Paul played the solo on Georges song "Taxman" on his Epiphone Casino!
@@sweetwater54 I was thinking about the main riff but I didn't know Paul played the solo, thanks for the tidbit!
DrasticBread George played his 61 strat for the rhythm part of taxman.
@@ianbalish3852 Are you saying my ears are broken? Because there is no way that sound comes from single coils. Source plz
Clapton used the '64 in Cream. It's the fool guitar. 👍
When you have a guitar that was used for several Clapton classics and for perhaps The Beatles' greatest album ... you cannot deny the magnitude of this instrument's splendor ...
How is this on tune??
If I'm not mistaken, didn't Robby Krieger primarily use one of those guitars? You always see him playing an SG in concert footage.
I believe he played a late 60s one with the bigger pickguard. Also he played a Special.
Robby played a 67 or 68 standard big guard with vibrola. Also an SG special , 54 les paul custom with p90 thats stock in the bridge and switched neck p90 for a mini humbucker.
A 1964 Gibson SG Standard would have had nylon bridge saddles vs the metal ones on this guitar. Either the bridge or the saddles have been replaced.
I think Clapton made the 64 SG more famous than George Harrison did.
I was waiting for "paperback writer" .
hey guys, is this gtr still available?
50s,60s,70s indeed all fine very special guitars and some sell for thousands but let's face it. even on you tube there are few people that have made better custom guitars. this nostalgic got to have it goes too far sometimes.
considering the\ last two decades of politically fucking correct record companies, they can care less if you played Chinese made guitar or 64 SG. they wouldn't sign you no matter what or talented. even Beatles, and Zeppelin and stones or Clapton or any of those 60s,70s, 80s band could get signed the last two decades.
record companies have become as corrupt as our fucking congress and government and media and movie industry.
More Like An AC DC Guitar,
It does everything
MultiGaming G936 but the model isn’t the same what angus young use in the 70s because his model is 1968 one
Can’t explain how much i hate when people associate SG with AC DC .
