The focus of the investigation is on possible financial backers, namely politicians from Bolsonaro's party who are in contact w/ businessmen. The Brazilian Federal Prosecutor's Office has identified more than a 100 companies (mainly from or related to the agribusiness sector) suspected of having provided financial support to the rioters, incl. the transport buses to the capital & the camp of the protesters who have been there for months. @@steffanmaximum *OK I can see that one living in one dead. They are both very respectable man and their time.*
No one person should rule a country. Even ignoring the risk of dictatorship, economies are too complicated for one person anyway. For this reason it is a really bad idea to have an executive President. The current best democracies all have proportional representation, resulting in coalition governments with executive power resting with a multi party cabinet with a prime minister. It's not perfect, because even those prime ministers tend to have more power than they should, but it is the best system we currently have.
To make it better the ideal is that the role of prime minister should just be to chair cabinet meetings. Prime minister should be the least powerful cabinet role rather than the most powerful.
A president is OK as a head of state, but only if the role has no power, like for example in the Irish Republic.
If we all move to this kind of system our democracies will be a lot more democratic, in the sense that they will be more representative of the will of the people, and they will also be a lot safer from outside attack. I'm willing to bet outside influence played a part in this attempted coup, probably Putin since he pumps money into fascist movements all over the world and Russian bots push propaganda supporting those fascists. That kind of attack is a lot harder when you have to persuade 50% of the population than it is when you only have to persuade 1% or less.
