This really should be a proper broadcast series. Such a gap in the market for it.
This is where the Labour Party should be campaigning and supporting there folk.
Remember this story when you cast your vote during the next general election.
Britains! Chase those thuggish politicians out of parliament - or better yet jail the lot - and put these people in charge!
No. Lets not.
That would a be a far worse idea than you think it is ..
萬水千山總是情 in a Leeds community centre is quite something
Great video.
Love the attitude of this video. Camera work was distracting at times, felt like a 6 year old was filming at times. Otherwise nicely done!
Yes!
The true spirit of the British
The government could definitely help support these organisations more.
Hopefully the government doesn't come in and start shutting down these little projects for not meeting some arbitrary regulations.
If it wasn't true though.
The government are exactly the kind of people who would shut down these charities.
Would love to see John visit coalville
Maybe it's my math, but that last project doesn't add up. It cost 5m to build, but is only going to yeild 100,K per year for 25 years? At that rate it would have been more efficien to just give the 5m to the community
Just about to say that!
I thought they must have made a mistake but I checked on their website and it is indeed 5m outlay (actually a bit under) and then £100k per year revenue. Over 25 years they wouldn't even pay off the initial outlay. There must be more to it otherwise why not give the 5m to the community as you say.
Such genuinely wonderful people looking after one another whilst our government carries on oblivious!!! I am definitely voting Labour. ❤
How will the investors in the Bristol wind turbine benefit, when it’s costing £5,000,000 to build, yet will only bring in £2,500,000 over the 25 years?
I'm guessing a large part of the funding came from a government grant, which allows the project to make a loss and national grid to rob everyone blind, by paying absolutely nothing for the electricity generated
I had the same question, but presumably the £5m includes the money investors have spent on it, and the £100k p/a is all going to the community directly
Thank you Baron. Shame on the monarchy!
How come there's no food banks in Russia? I've never seen any reporting on this issue.
Wow, great video Britain! I wish you the best and hope that all western democracies can expel the conservative nonsense that has infested our politics.
Just discovered on YT a Whiteboard animation of Jonathan Sacks’ “Politics of Hope” - gives a clear & succinct explanation of the competing approaches and makes it clear how 12+ years of Conservative government has caused so much pain.
These are the stories that should be focused on Where is the help from the government
What do you want the government, ie, us taxpayers because thats who pays for it, to do about it?
@@tanyajackson622 The government should the tax payers money to take care of the tax payers when they are facing a crisis They shouldn’t just keep the money for themselves or the figure heads of the country The tax payers are struggling to survive

Rishi Sunak's first question on visiting these places: "What's the market cap for an operation like this?"
We the people are always the ones to change things for the better; our governments are demonstrably feckless and are in desperate need of overthrowing and replacement with honest, citizen-oriented representatives.
sure, voting Tory will change a lot, more food banks are a great Brexshit benefit, because inside of the EU, there wasnt so many food banks needed!
This effing government need to be charged with abuse.
They’ve paid your gas bill, more more more
Boilers on wall, rads, working pipes, and people can't use it, wiring in the walls and ceiling yet light bulbs can't be turned on, tracks laid, and trains running yet cost a lot of money meaning people can't use then, and people moving from choosing what they want at a supermarket to queuing for a food bank hoping to get something.
I’m from Canada, and I know this may sound like a silly question. But where is the royal family in this?! Are they legally/politically allowed to take action on behalf of their people? Just wondering from a factual point of view. Clearly there is a need for intervention. I’m wondering what is stopping the royal family from taking action, when the government doesn’t seem to have a handle on things 🤷🏻♀️
It’s a constitutional monarchy so the PM and in general Parliament has the most direct influence now. King Charles and the royals in general are figureheads and cannot engage in political activities because they have little to no power.
There is no community. ..
There are separate communities.....
People need to stop voting Tory!
There is definitely a positive aspect of poverty. People are kind to each other and money is not always the priority.
We all know what the government will say: "You're doing it, so we don't need to."
Please help me with understanding how this is a win? £100,000 a year for 25 years is £2.5 Million for a wind turbine that costs £5 Million. I am an avid follower of Anywhere But Westminster due to its refreshingly open-minded, honest and curious form of journalism but am I missing something? Thank you
I was thinking the same thing....an investment loss of 2.5 million makes no sense
They said this will be the amount that will get back to the community, i.e. the remaining profit after repayments to investors, etc.
Presumably he means profit?
£100,000 is the profit that they get, it's only a percentage of the overall gains. I can only assume that the rest of the money goes into paying off the initial cost and cover maintenance.
@@trildi unless I am missing something but the journalist was clear when he said it would produce "£100,000 a year for 25 years" he said nothing about after paying off investors, but I presume that is what have to take into consideration as he wasn't explicit in his reporting.
Where is the king and prince?
It’s not all doom, gloom, and politicians
I don't have much time for the Guardian normally after the seeing their platforming of culture war propagandists and vilification of Corbyn but this series and John Harris's journalism are excellent. I'm not feeling a shred of optimism personally but I'll keep watching and hoping.
Did i hear that right? 5m for a wind turbine, but it only makes 2.5m over 25 years.
What's the government going to do to help ? She asks .
First thing : Put a complete stop to illegal immigration and start deporting failed asylum seekers . No Recourse To Public Funds for any new immigrants . Just like Aus / NZ
and Canada ?
The situation is absolutely heartbreaking, but thanks to the community workers and organizers there is hope. It is time for the Tories to leave.
Westminster couldn't hold a split infinitive together!
All these comments about it being wrong, but what are we doing about it? Acceptance is the problem
The gov is filling the pockets of the rich while the poor continue to suffer.
The horror of starvation, like war, does provide an increase in the sense of community.
And now communities are fractured beyond recognition in the UK, I guess it's the lesser of 2 evils.
How does spending 5 million for a return of £100,000 a year for 25 years make any sense?
