  • Metallica perform "Sabbra Cadabra" (and "A National Acrobat") with Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler. Black Sabbath originally recorded the song for their 1973 album "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" and Metallica covered it for their 1998 covers album "Garage Inc.". Recorded live @ The Fillmore in San Francisco, California on December 10th, 2011 (the last of four Metallica 30th birthday concerts).

Ah man if Cliff was alive, he'd be so happy to be playing with Geezer, cause Geezer was Cliff's idol.

I don't think Geezer gets nearly enough credit as a bassist. The dude is a MONSTER.
He brings such a brilliant combination of dexterity and musicality to his bass lines. They're heavy as hell and yet so melodic...his bass fills in the sound and under Tony's solos and just sing out crystal clear.
I'd easily put on the Top 10 list not just of metal bassists, but rock'n'roll bassists in general (Entwistle, McCartney, Jones, Wyman, Bruce, etc.). He's THAT great.

I couldn't agree more...I was lucky enough to catch a Sabbath show a few weeks ago (FINALLY!) and you wouldn't believe how aggressive and heavy Geezer sounds live...unfuckingbelievable!!! The dude is so talented...it's amazing to see him (and Tony together) live...I will NEVER forget it! It's interesting how much of Sabbath's heaviness and darkness was due to Geez...just listen to his solo stuff and it tells the story...that shit will melt your face off!

@TopRamenKickAss thing is, this medley is two songs from the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath album, which was played in C#. Metallica is actually tuning their guitars higher than the original, and Ozzy can't sing that high anymore (which is why they play "Iron Man" and "Paranoid" in D rather than E)

It's all about the notes on the bass not the chords. Trujillo is all over the place on
his neck while Geezer is isolating his phrasing to the original song . But their both
    accomplishing the same sound.

Again... Geezer butler in sabbath played to make his sound big like everyone in the band at the time. With that geezer created some nice string work despite being neccessity so geezer in this sitoution took the role as lead bass player rob focusing on rhyme so the string work can be heard and not be ruined by too much noise essentailly.
I don't get why that calls for criticism on robs part or maybe im cynical due to the fact comments on metallica video's always have a"He's shit" opinion.
