  • When OCD tries to overwhelm you with guilt
    Remember
You are not a bad person for experiencing intrusive thoughts
Guilt is a common struggle for those with OCD and many times we feel guilty or believe we should be punished for the intrusive thoughts we experience. We do our " sentence " with the anxiety and rumination and hours of compulsions for our " crimes " aka intrusive thoughts, images, urges and sensations. You are not a bad person for having these experiences and do not need to be hard on yourself for having them.
One way that ive heard this explained that I found helpful is, to see OCD as the medical condition it is and see intrusive thoughts as a symptom of that condition and not as it being your fault or moral failing. You are not your thoughts. You are not alone. ERP therapy ,self-compassion and acceptance can be very helpful with guilt that accompanies OCD.
