    When I started working out, my two main mistakes were lack of sleep and not eating enough (not being in a caloric surplus). I always thought I was eating enough and was disappointed because my weight stagnated. Then I got my first diet plan created (I think it was from Next Level Diet). I realised that my previous food intake was way below my needs, although I thought I'm good. At the beginning it was hard to eat 3000 kcal in a day, but I got used to it. I started noticing real gains and it felt amazing. I wish I'd understood the importance of diet earlier.

    Actually, genetic weakness is a real thing. I trained my calves like hell about 2 years ago. Working out my calves literally made my tear drop. Don't get me wrong.I did it in the right and proper ways like full range of motion, different feet positions, squeezing my calves about 3-4 secs in each reps, 5-6 sets with high reps 3-4 times a week, good stretching, giving my calves enough time to recover. I did see the results but compared to genetically blessed person who didn't even train his calves hard or properly, my calves were still small.

    Training calve are important indeed, but when your calves are already underdeveloped despite efforts or regardless of reasons, no need to hopping to so many variations of the exercise. just stick with smiple standing calves raise, do it until it burns, and do it almost daily, would be my suggestion to everyone.

  • @Yvaelle
    @Yvaelle 2 года назад +33

    Calves are super easy to build with this simple exercise. Anytime you're standing around during the day, balance on the balls of your feet and unlock your knees just slightly. It doesn't take a ton of height, it doesn't take weights. Not only is this a balance exercise, but it distributes your body weight into your calves and foot muscles. Just hold it as long as you can, as often as you can, when standing around. I'm at the dog park for 30-45 minutes every day, it's very easy to turn that into a body weight calf exercise = big calves. Incorporate calves into your time-killing exercises and you'll never need to target them in the gym, unless your going to competition soon etc.

Today I have pretty good calves but it took 12 years of consistent training, most of the workouts at home and I am obsessive about my calf workouts. I have more pride in this muscle group than any other though I see guys that have never trained calves have bigger ones. I am happy they will grow. Pro tip: change the way you walk forever. Basic heel to toe function but exaggerate the toe by pressing up and off (like a mini calf raise) almost will feel like a bouncing motion with each step but in time will normalize to your new gate. People do this automatically and it builds a foundation for large calves.

    • @lym3204
      @lym3204 9 месяцев назад

      Take up power walking or speed walking. To develop speed I would sprint walk lifting off with my calves until they burned and went to failure. I always thought my calf size was more genetic although my calve size might be being maintained by how I walk as you stated. It may feel like bouncing but your head should stay level as you should heel-toe then roll off the ball of your foot then with your calf muscles push forward as hard as you can.

    I use to walk around 20 miles per day. I only did seated and standing calf exercises.
    Our standing machine was vertical. The top of the foot rest was around 5 inches above the ground. I would slowly go up and down as far as I could safely.
    Our seated machine was similar. I still raised and lowered my heels as much as I could. The big difference is that I did not hold onto the handles. That often would cause an involuntary pull by the arms. Use weight that you can properly handle with your calves alone.

    I’m still in the army and 7 years of rucking, hitting calves at gym, I still have barely any calf size. People that naturally have calves always say it’s because they did this or that, but reality is they’re calves would have grown in the same even if they did nothing. I rode bikes and jogged and hiked all my life too. Ive been working on intense stretching lately because I think genetically mine came out a lot less flexible then others and limited the room to grow. Females are always much more flexible then men and almost always have nice calves with or without any exercise.

Also I think it is worth mentioning the ratio of fast twitch fibers to slow twitch fibers based on genetics. I just made 44 and can still dunk standing at 5'10. The standing calf exercises I plan to give a shot.

    hit them hard til failure, load the weight, twice a weak, full range motion. Dumbbells are fine... but flat foot on the floor is not lol. That lower half of the movement, where your heel is below the front of your foot, is the more effective part. Your calves dont do that in a normal walking motion so they arent used to it, thus they respond big time. Gotta get on a calf block and get that full stretch.

    DISCLAIMER* there are alot of people out there, that will NEVER get big calves (naturally) no matter what..this has to do with somethings that you cannot change like 1. Geneteics (especailly in many black men) we tend to be of a leaner frame, with less bulkiness and fat, especially in our legs and trunk area..2. being flat footedalso ( which again is another genetical traight more prevalaint in black men..people with a high arch and have been walking on the ball of their feet their entire lifes will naturally have larger thighs and bigger calfs as oppose to people who have been walking on the outside of their feet without putting much pressure on their calves . in many cases, your skinny chicken legs are just part of your genetic make up, many athletes over come this because they have been working out their entire lifes but unfortunatley for many, the most you will be able to achieve is toning your skinny legs with some good consitent work outs..as far as getting them big and impressive looking.. forget about it

  • @kuji-in-deed369
    @kuji-in-deed369 3 года назад

    Good video but calf raises alone won’t do it. It looks disproportionate because most people neglect the other muscles of the lower legs. Elevated toe raises is something that is sadly an overlooked part of the equation. This is where you place your heels on an elevated surface in a standing position. Something one to two inches high should do it. I prefer to alternate reps between toes pointing inward and heels together with toes pointing outward at roughly a 45 degree angle adding weights over time. This really helps add volume instead of the disproportionate look most people get from only working the rear calves. Big calves while the rest of the lower leg is still skinny just looks weird especially on women in heels.

    Treadmill at a 3.5/4 incline then grab any extra weight like two 10lb plates to start . Our calves are use to our body weight so ANYTHING over will make them grow . I use 45lb plates . Walk for 5 minutes to start so your Achilles gets use to this and then progress to longer times and heavier weight . Combined with leg press calve raises and you’ll have some softball calves in about 3 months

    Listen to a tale of two true stories. After 30 years of training, being at first a bodybuilder, then later a competitive powerlifter, I can say with utmost certainty, Its all in the genes. Sure they get a little bigger but not what we all are looking for. For years I busted my butt with every rep and weight range imaginable. Every exercise possible. Diet and nutrition sure. Everything grew but the calves. What did I get? Maybe an inch or so bigger. My son at the age of about 16-17 and playing varsity HS football. Of course, extensive weight training as well, mostly core exercises. His calves?? At the weight of about 190lbs, his calves stretched 17 1/2" with 27" thighs. Not only that but they were cut as if by diamonds. Sure he ran alot, it was football. Never did a calf exercise in his life. Now at the age of 33 his calves, not as big but still huge by his fathers standards. He jogs about 3 miles twice a week. Sure they get a little bigger, but either you have it or dont. Dont get mislead by silly programs or courses or videos, Its all in the genes. Theres a reason why some pro bodybuilders get caught with calf implants.

    This is not a bad video but it tells me nothing I haven't already been doing for years. I actually did more than all of this, I did crazy stuff and STILL DO every week. Did I get significant, visible results? Hell no. I can tell my calves got a tiny bit better but when a random persons looks at my figure they're still the smallest part, though rock hard and pretty defined (even with hair on you can see all of the sections and just tell they're a sport person calves). That's because I'm one of the 15/20% of people born with horrible genetics, very tiny ankles (my ankles are just a little bit thicker than my wrists) and high calf insertion and I will NEVER get BIG calves. But if you belong to the 80-85% of population yes, you may see your calves grow by following these instructions. Just keep in mind no training program is universally suited, ideal for everybody. You might have to look at the results while in progress and adapt it to your body's response. Some need to train calves more times a week, some need more rest. I actually believe the worst your genetics are the more rest you might need, because the kind of work intensity we force our calves to do when working out with weights is much stressing and specific that just walking, running or going up stairs so our calves might need some days to recover from THAT effort.

    Sarco calves are possible with tons of reps and heavy weight. Forget doing calf raises 1-2 times a week. Take a 50kg backpack and walk daily thousands of steps. Hills, stairs, etc. Many overweight people who walk a lot tend to have big calf muscles.
