    If your calves aren't growing, it's likely because you are making a common mistake. In fact, if you struggle to build muscle in general, suffering from slow or no growth at all, then you are going to want to see what mistakes you might be making - ruclips.net/video/330Ufcaj1zA/видео.html

      Love your videos Jeff but i have a question on range of motion. I have seen/heard warnings about over extending the Achilles on calf raises and that it can actually lead to preliminary wear and tear on the tendon setting you up for potential injury. What are your thoughts on this???
      Thanks!

      Dear Jeff, the problem is the fact that training Calves is soooooooo... boring! Boring for those who perform and for those who look as well. The real deal is spicing it up. At that point, people would perform with excitement.

      Daily train your calves?

    • @arthurfleck629
      @arthurfleck629 3 месяца назад

      @@ailatads It can be done, but for the sake of connective tissue and joint health, as well as performance, it’s probably best to not train them every single day, it’s likely better for most folks to train them every other day, approximately 3 - 5 days per week for those who are genuinely serious about pursuing new gains in size and strength. Even though they’re an extremely resilient muscle group (they need to be because of their function, they fight gravity to allow us to stand upright, if we didn’t have calves we wouldn’t be able to stand up and walk around) and they are much more easily able to recover and typically take less time to do so, they do still need rest like any other muscle group.
      These are also the reasons why it’s so difficult to grow your calves, it’s something of a double edged sword, them being as tough as they are so they can properly fill the role they play makes them highly resistant to damage, which makes training them hard enough to get them to grow and get stronger absurdly difficult for most of us.
      It’s often the case that we encounter Achilles tendonopathy and even rupture just as often as we do new growth if we don’t give them some rest, so be cautious if you’re planning to train them every single day. It’s probably best that you do so in 4 - 8 week blocks only a few times per year. The vast majority of the time, you should be having at least a day in between instances in which you work your calves, they’re tough, but they still need rest, just like anything else, even the abs. Our ab muscles are also a relatively small and highly damage resistant muscle group which often rapidly recovers for these very reasons, but they also require adequate time to recover.

My heel literally won’t bend like it should because my knee is so weak it can’t handle my body weight. This is the best explanation I’ve ever heard on why the calves could be limited in their growth. Jeff, I’m wondering why whenever I focus on working my calves and doing this exercise (I was taught it long ago but didn’t understand the science behind it that you explained so well) my calves cramp like crazy!!! I’m wondering if this muscle just really doesn’t get worked because the Achilles is absorbing all of the force all of the time. When I do go to work it, it’s like it buckles and cramps and can handle hardly anything. Any suggestions?

Going below the horizontal on calf raises will stretch the achilles tendon as you have mentioned but I also believe this type of repetitive stretching can lead to inflammation of that tendon sometimes referred to as heal spurs.
