I love that you don't have music over the background noise of you working. It is therapeutic. Great video
Great video.
I decided to take mine apart after watching this, it's now in the bin in a hundred pieces and I wish I was dead
thats the best comment ever :)
This is a amazing restoration of a almost hopeless case! I'm pleasantly surprised that they still produce spare parts for such old tools... thumbs up!
yes parts very easy to replace
Regardless of how much the parts cost etc this was a true restoration...
Not something trying to pass itself off as one...

Makita, great quality, affordable spare parts - the fact that you could make that thing, which obviously was submerged in water for quite some time, run again for just 46 bucks really is testament to the fact that the good reputation of this brand is well founded. Great job mate!
This man is brilliant! He documents these "restorations" so that he can put everything back! The videos are just a plus!
Wonderful job brother 👍💯🙏

anyone can repair a very old drill ... but this is a modern drill and I think you are one of the few person in the world that can restore it perfectly.
thank you for sharing your knowledge ,
best regards from Italy
when cleaning the motor winding, to ensure you do not knock the insulation coating off of the wire, i would recommend a tooth brush and a contact cleaner, abrasive wire wheels will knock the coatings off and the motor will become less efficient, and draw much more current.
Yes, thank you for your recommendation.
Bookmarked for future reference.
Can you apply a new coating if it’s been brushed off? What coating would you use? Varnish?
Jughead Jones I don’t think you can very easily, but I may be wrong
HowTo Extreme I believe you’re right since each wire in the winding is supposed to be insulated from every part of the winding. I was just wondering if it could be possible. I don’t know how resistant the insulation coating is to withstand a wire brush but I’ve seen it done in a lot of restoration videos. I’ve seen one dude redo the windings on every motor he restores. Unfortunately I can’t remember his site.
We all know quality tools survive years of use ( usually ) but this restoration is crazy .
As a Makita guy its great seeing one brought back too life..........😊👍
It's worth to repair and restore. Nice job man. Thanks

I had not anticipated the mechanical part to be so complex. The hammer action and the key-less chuck assembly makes it that complex, I guess. Thanks for sharing. Regards,
Makita will always be worth repairing and restoring.
Drill is like new now. Brilliant.
Thank you!
Everything was fine, but I'm not sure if spraying a clear coat over rubber grip is a good idea...
there isn' t much he can do about the rubber. It' s over molded, it can' t be replaced..
It looks like it chooched good in the end.. so.... maybe it was useful
its always fine :D he dont need anyone Approving his work :D
Not a fan of the clear coating either. A few of them do it. It's a shame but i suppose you just can't get the polish back on plastics and rubber once they've been scrubbed. I thought when he started heat treating with the torch it might work but not so much. I'd actually rather it just be cleaned as well as poss and dull than have the glossy coat. None of which takes from the enjoyment and appreciation. We're all fans here.
Its a great idea. Look! He restored it
It’s so satisfying to watch this whole restoration process all the way to its end! I enjoyed it so much, I watched it again, Thank you!
In the middle of it, I was quite scared that some parts cannot be found new... I was very impressed with your work and craftsmanship. I was also glad that such replacement parts can still be purchased from Makita for this old model!
Thank you all so much!
Cool restoration!
Wouldve been nice if you said which tools and chemicals you were using during the work steps

THANK YOU for putting the prices in the description
Damn, i would've given up at 0:27 and give that drill a proper funeral.
After I saw the drill inside I nearly given up that time, I tried to find some spare parts at spare parts shop in my city and got them all. I think I could restore it, finally I did it.
Kozure I’d have given up when they wanted $20 for that nasty looking thing
