I would love a tutorial on how you did the hair placement before texturing! The texturing looks so much better than any Xgen cards I've seen, but there are no tutorials about hair placement!
Exactly, It's so hard to find a proper tutorial on how to create and place hair cards. The only one's that show up are how to make them from xgen and those don't look good with my models (cards going through one another and too many polys)
Learn how to style real hair, like how to move and place pieces of hair to especific hair cuts, its a very especific thing for every hair cut, there is a CG cookie course on it tho if you want to check it out
This looks amazing and is so much faster than the Xgen haircard way way..the results look just about the same too! Thank you!! Ill try this method!! This is beautiful!
Hello Ash :) I wanted to ask you if you achieved exactly the same result as in the video. I do what he does in the video but it doesn't work out to me. I have a lot of emptiness so I can see the scalp under the hairs, while in fact I have covered my whole head with planes/cards, so I can't figure out what the problem is. Do I have to have hair in a group like in the video? I have done unwrapping correct like in video and I have choose the same texture in substance, exactly the same steps like video, but I don't have the same result. Do you think is something about mesh/planes? Thank you.
Thank you, this saves my day. I am no character artist buy now making a female character. I have done body, and cloth. However the hair has been torturing me for 3 days. I tried Xgen. Working with Xgen is a time consuming process and I only have 2 days left and I haven't tried Xgen baking to cards features so I really prefer making hair material procedurally in substance suite.
This is a really good looking result. But it needs a very distinct setup in the UVs. Ill see what I can do in my existing setup. Cleaning up like 40 strains in 40 UV islands that were packed and rotated by machine sounds not very fun and I also have to make them square.
Fantastic tutorial! I'll be coming back to this when I'm ready to start doing hair. I was really dreading that, and this tutorial makes it look easy and fun. Thanks!
how do you convert a layer to alpha and get the geometry to disappear just leaving the hair material? I tried to follow that step but I can't see clearly what was done and it's not working on mine.
So I'm not positive, but I think la cup's fur 3 is inverted by default (which is why his icon is lighter). I think if your fur 3 is dark like mine, it means you have to invert the fur 3 fill, and then follow every other step like normal.
Wow, I'm very surprised that you barely did anything about the UVs (like having a few sets of the same cards, not overlapping) and yet the result looks very neat.
This is cool but the UV placement was very sloppy in the beginning , there are better ways for sure , for example if you so much as wanted 1 mesh with different hair variations or braids , or curlier parts and you only wanted 1 single image texture then it would be impossible , you could maybe do this more times and export every mesh as a separate skeletal mesh but the more meshes you have sharing 1 animation the less efficient it will run and you run risk of de syncing , it's better to keep separate meshes to as few as possible . in terms of the shape of the hair card i see some comments asking how to do this , basically as long as you have a common material for a collection of the cards , you can unwrap 1 of them as a rectangle first and then link that uv map to all the other cards sharing the same material , then edit the 1 card into desired shape in this case pointy and simply transfer object data to the rest AFTER you unwrapped as the rectangle first or else your cards will unwrap in the pointy shape and not rectangular like the video , causing some warping possibly
Retopologyzed? why would you need to do that when it's a simple shape created in maya? the hair mesh is a bunch of simple strips made on maya, you place them strip by strip to make them look like hair, also you can do it on zbrush, there are a bunch of videos on that, takes time and patience but it's the only way pretty much to make nice looking hair that could be used in games

maybe can use the textures ,then in maya place the hair cards uv's place when the material is the textures in sb painter
@@VFORVICTORY1000 i was looking for specific techniques on the placement of those cars
@@bigkh3 You can use Zbrush to easily place planes using curves and then manually move them to get the desired result. Works pretty well!

Awesome Tutorial. Can you also provide a tutorial for texturing that model in subtance.
This is a really good looking result. But it needs a very distinct setup in the UVs.

hello, did you figure out how he shaped the UVs like that?
how do you convert a layer to alpha and get the geometry to disappear just leaving the hair material? I tried to follow that step but I can't see clearly what was done and it's not working on mine.

When I try to add the fur texture, it won't let me. why is not allowing me to apply a texture to a layer?

Amazing dude, thx for sharing!

Omgh thanks the captions helped alot ~~
wow..thxx...this is a breakthrough..Master
the base mesh for the hair is retopologyzed? I said because the form is so nice and curvy...
Thanks your tutorial!! really helpfull!!
can you show how you made the Meshes for this turtorial ? i got some issues with that
if you have zbrush, check out imm hair card brushes. if not you can extrude a single plane into hair strips
yeah do i createthe rect. mesh, unwrap the uvs and than deform it by adjust the edges manually?
thank you very much
간단하고 멋지네요 감사합니다.
Thank you! This was so helpful! (even though I don't speak Korean)
Thank you! Instant sub! :D
