My Great Aunt was very fast with a hook and a needle. She was blind. Hand-eye is not necessarily what you need for this skill. The sensitivity in your fingers tells you the tension in the string, the size of the stick, the tightness of the stitch, the space between stitches. Your fingers count them because if you had to rely on your eyes you would be lost. I spoke of my Aunt, My Mother crocheted a wedding dress for my sister that weighed around fifty pounds. It was a double skirt. Three people in our family have worn it now. They say it is incredibly heavy, it is made from the material she used for doilies, and table spreads. I honestly don't remember my mother looking at her stitches unless she made a mistake.

The teasing didn't bother me much and wasn't widespread. Little did these folks know that I could handle wrenches, hammers and saws equally well.
Thankfully we have begun to arrive at a place where skills are more appreciated for the skill and craftsmanship rather than associated with whether someone is male or female. Today we find and accept craftspeople with very diverse skills regardless of gender.

My sister is a sentimental old soul and I thought for this Christmas I'd crotchet her a blanket, knowing she wouldn't be disappointed if it turned out wonky or looking bad, she'd just be happy that the time and thought was taken. Went on RUclips and done just a basic blanket. I'm a 36 year old bloke and I couldn't believe that when I was doing it the time flew by and how relaxed I was. Wasn't thinking of anything apart from the crocheting. I'm not afraid to admit I enjoyed it and looking forward to giving it to her. Well done little man, you're awesome! 👍
