      BS! That semi was a good 5m before the stop line when the light changed to red. If you can't get a semi to stop at the stop line before the red comes on, you're driving too fast. Just because you're driving a semi, doesn't give you the right to run the red.

    I think coquitlam has the worst drives not, leaving richmond behind. As for the video at 4', the truck is probaby speeding over the speed limit. The limit was set too slow, and the lights are adjusted to the speed limit (look how quickly it changed from green to red), so the truck couldn't stop safely in time.

    I ride a motorcycle in Vancouver, and every time I go out riding I have to remind myself to play this game in my head.... Whenever I'm out there I look at every car around me and I think "What is the weirdest thing this person can do to put me at risk?". I then prepare for that. I've seen some crazy shit out there and this mental game has saved my bacon a few times.

    Both of the left turners (4:14 & 4:32) are at fault. Unless you have a green arrow you may not proceed unless the intersection is clear. In fact even queuing up to turn left on the amber light is technically against the rules even though it's common practice. You may not get a ticket for it, but if you do it on your driver's road test, it's an automatic fail.

    • @edwinacaparelli9911
      @edwinacaparelli9911 2 года назад +1

      I agree because they have to still make sure the intersection is safe before they turn left regardless of whether or not they're in the middle of the intersection and it's turning red and they need to clear they still need to make sure it's safe. And they should have been anticipated that all of the vehicles ahead of them may have not stopped for that red light. When I'm stuck in middle of the intersection, trying to turn left, I still make sure I know that the people ahead of me opposite are going to stop so that it is safe for me to turn left and I still shoulder check for pedestrians also.

    I'm an n driver and I am trying my best to keep my habits that I've learned (the good ones I mean) and one of the best habits I find besides giving myself extra space in between me and the car in front and shoulder checking, is using my head to literally scan the intersection left to right every time I get to one. It is a great habit it keeps you conscious of what is going on in the intersection and I think it would have helped in both of those cases with the left turns.

    4:03 Or course that left turning car should have waited! Why get clobbered by an oncoming truck, that's insane!
    Why on earth do drivers who are already legally in the intersection, waiting to turn, seem to think they're obligated to leave the moment the light goes to red? There is no law that requires that! The time to exit is when you feel confident that the oncoming traffic is slowing or stopped, and there aren't any late pedestrians in your path.
    And by the way, regarding traffic on the cross street who now have a green? There's no law that allows them to hit the gas and T-bone you, and after 50 years behind the wheel I can tell you I've never seen it happen.
    Bad decisions by drivers turning left without a 'protected' phase (ie green arrow) are one of the most serious crash issues in BC.

  • @remlatzargonix1329
    @remlatzargonix1329 Год назад +1

    I think that if they actually used concrete for road lane controls in BC (instead of merely painting them on) like they do in other parts of the country, then it would make it more difficult for BC drivers to be so shitty. (That is, concrete structures would destroy their axles so, doing the stupid thing might be less enticing!....or maybe not; BC drivers can be quite douchey/stupid).

That is why I am actually happy I can no longer drive, these people expect everyone else to give way to them when they are breaking the law. The tractor trailer had no right to run the red light, the white SUV had no right to continue making a left turn in front of oncoming traffic...

    I drove in BC quite a lot, most of its fine, but one commonality seems to be that drivers almost seem to want to get into fender benders, they see someone make an illegal turn in front of them and they apply no brakes nor do they attempt to avoid the accident in any way, its almost an attitude of "I don't care if I get into an accident, as long as I'm not permenantly injured/killed and it isn't my fault"... I'm not sure if this is due to how BC's insurance system works or legal system, or what, but yeah definitely a higher prevailance of drivers in BC actively deciding not to avoid a minor collision when someone else is at fault than any of the other 7 provinces I've driven in.

    ICBC will probably rule that the car is at fault if they dont take into consideration the evidence of running the red. In a lot of cases I hear about they say it is the one changing directions that is usually at fault.

      @@vancouversworstdrivers In many jurisdictions, it is the responsibility of the turning vehicle to ensure that the path is clear before making a movement. As one officer said at my friend's collision, even if the person going straight through is running a red light, the left turner is still at fault.

    4:34 is basically insurance fraud. Not sure if it is 50/50 fault for driversbin BC nowadays. Idk. He clearly sped up to cause the accident to happen. It was 100% avoidable. However, the person turning left had no right to.
    For myself, it should be 50/50. If it's the law, it's the person turning left's fault. Thought, not sure if that is the law nowadays...

    The driver shouldn't have gone into intersection at 9:45 (who knows, the driver might have misjudged) but as he entered prior to red, that car has right of way over ALL other vehicles that haven't entered the intersection yet, specifically all those vehicles that are just entering into the intersection from screen's right.
    s.127 (1)(a)(iii) RSBC c.318:
    127 1)When a green light alone is exhibited at an intersection by a traffic control signal,(a)the driver of a vehicle facing the green light, (iii)must yield the right of way to vehicles lawfully in the intersection at the time the green light became exhibited.

    I feel like the truck @4:24 if he honked ( since in my experience If they need to go thru the light late they normally do.) it’s the cars fault. Personally I always am super cautious when it comes to trucks. Every video I watch I am always shocked at some of the crashes like what are these people doing while. Some of them are so stupid - I’d they’d just look around.. and pay attention.

    7:25 My analysis of this stupid crunch? I would guess that the driver of the white SUV, preparing to reverse into a parking stall, was paying too much attention to his mirrors as he set up for the turn. And meanwhile, that big A-pillar partially blocked his view of the bumper of the car ahead until he bumped into it. This can be a real issue in modern vehicles with a zillion airbags ...

    So where is law enforcement?? This is the norm. We need a separate traffic police. Regular police could not careless. The ticketing system needs to be streamlined. 4K video police cars could email the infraction to the driver. Along with the vid. This would clean up the roads fast.

  • @sarah-janemelnychuk541
    @sarah-janemelnychuk541 2 года назад

    The incident with the semi is a tricky one. Pending circumstances I’ll wait before going on a green if it’s not actually safe to go.
    Road Safety is all our responsibility.
    It’s possible the semi truck driver was distracted or new and wasn’t slowing down at the stale green light and as a result had the semi truck driver went to stop he would have stopped in the middle of the intersection.
    The driver in the car should have looked before turning instead of going just because the light is green. The semi will win a collision with a small vehicle any day.
    If I was the driver in that car I would have looked for signs that the semi truck driver was in the process of stopping and if I didn’t see the semi slowing down I wouldn’t go. Sure, I would have the right to go but is it beneficial to go? Is it safe to go?
    But the other question is, what about the pressure that other drivers place on other drivers. Eg. My lane of travel was blocked, the lane beside me to the right was full so I couldn’t simply change lanes to get around the vehicle that was partially blocking my lane of travel. That vehicle blocking my lane of travel wanted to get in the turning lane. The turning lane remained on red while my lane of travel had a green light. Only problem was, there was nowhere for me to go. So I remained stopped. The cars behind me were busy honking their horns at me trying to get me to go but I couldn’t go. So, we’re other drivers pressuring the driver of the white car to go? Because that happens all to frequently. People honk at me when I wait for pedestrians, they honk at me when I wait for cyclists, they honk at me when I wait for a slow moving older pedestrian trying to cross the street. So.... white car should have waited. Semi truck driver should have avoided whatever distraction that caused him to run the red light.

    All traffic fines should be a percentage of the person's yearly income, running a red light should be 20% driving on the wrong side of the road 50%. People would soon drive safer if they could lose their home, car or not be able to pay their rent and bills. There should not be a single death or injury on the road because there is no such thing as an accident, someone is always at fault.

    I'm from Québec. I don't know about Vancouver, but as far as lines goes in my area, my city did not even bother to paint most of them theses last few years. They only really do the intersections and the crosswalks. Truth be told, it used to take them all summer to paint the lines, and then they would get scraped off the road with the first snow. Somebody at the city figured out that it is one of those line items in the budget that is mostly just wasted money.

    Pedestrians have a sense of entitlement though. Like the guy with the dog could have just walked and he would have been fine, he decided to stop and cause a scene just because the dude was moving up. Even if the driver was a dick and was turning into the wrong lane, it doesn't concern the pedestrian. They were never in any danger. The pedestrian think they're royalty or something and no one can approach until they're completely on the other side of the road.

It looks like they give licences to whoever. Maybe it's become a prejudice thing if they fail someone in Canada now. That guy tries to give Shea shit for something he did? Interesting. I keep thinking that British Columbia rules of the road are similar enough to Washington's that it should not be too much of an adjustment. In Washington, a green left turn arrow indicates that the opposite on coming traffic has the red and is not allowed to enter the intersection. Still have to yield to those lawfully within the intersection. Our insurance companies and civil law practice will not allow red light runners to escape liability for crashing into left turners. I am now wondering if BC has the same courtesy for the green left turn arrow?
