@@Chironex_Fleckeri Exactly. Here in Germany almost 70% are B2B sales (fleet, company vehicles, rentals etc.), because now a basic VW Golf 8 has a starting price of over 30k€ (less and less C-customers can afford such vehicle prices).
Small critique: The VC system actually does not change the stroke length. It changes the stroke position vertically so the TDC and BDC points move up and down together. This changes the combustion chamber size... And thus the compression ratio

I rented one and hit a curb causing the wheel well covers to pop out and the bumper to crack. I unscrewed the bumper up pop the wheel well back in and closed the crack with JB weld. Then I sanded it down to get rid of the dug in scratches and painted it with krylon touch up paint. After the paint dried, I drove through gravel to kick up dust and cover it. Then I found out Enterprise doesn't care about the bumper.
Are you seriously making a joke comparing an engine to a wear-item like a Jatco CVT? Clearly, those engines are designed to outlast the 20K mile CVT replacement intervals.
@@razcarsey6635 the problem is that Nissan treats their CVTs like a lifetime item. If they posted proper maintenance intervals for their Craptastic Variable Transmissions ala oil changes, then they wouldn't have to deal with their tarnished reputation. This Altima engine reminds me of my 2006 VW Jetta 2.5l. It was “a 5 cylinder with the power of a 4 cylinder and the gas mileage of a 6 cylinder!” It was bulletproof though, 227,000 miles before I sold it running beautifully.
@@jamesmedina2062 Smoother? I have slightly stiffened engine and transmission mounts on my MK5 and boy is it shaky. Can't imagine how bad the 1.8T is, if this was an improvement.
@@leotam3372 Well thats it. Either you have a race car or a regular car with vibration absorbing mounts. Even V6 from Nissan got liquid filled mounts back in the 90's. It sounded bad too until I installed a big front pipe and high flow cat along with Milltek cat back. VW in Germany bragged how the 2000 Passats in Germany had the 5 that we did not get here. I drove a 2022 Nissan Altima rental car and I was surprised at how much I liked it. The seats are so comfortable. The base engine had ample power. The interior has a nice, quality feel to it. The interior space is very roomy, even the back seats. And I loved the large trunk. And it got great gas mileage in the time I had it.
Write all the nasty comments you want, but at least it's not a cross-over. Good looking car too. Had a Altima as a rental in AZ/CA in 2019 and put about 1000 miles on it.

Surprisingly it’s one of the more decent things Nissan has come up with- so far it’s proven to be very reliable. The NA 2.5L in the base trims is ancient but extremely reliable. With these you legit just have to worry about the CVT, hopefully if you change the fluids they’ll be fine now

Big Nissan Energy has transformed my life. I grew 6 inches taller, won the lottery, and became an expert in karate after driving an Altima for only six months! Now all the ladies love me.
My 2008 Altima v6 6mt Altima coupe was amazing. Finally let it die at 400,000km. Still could cruise in comfort or leave anyone behind. Have a 2019 manual 370z to comfort my Nissan urges though.
The Nissan Altima are made in Mississippi. I see these everyday here at the manufacturing plant. Tenn will start making these again in the coming years while we will be making the electric cars here.
People laugh at these cars, but from a practical standpoint these cars are a great deal. For the combo of comfort, handling, power, and fuel economy (36- 38 MPG,) cost and warranty, this is an awesome value. A year old CPO cars run in mid-20k range with 7yr/100,000 mi powertrain warranty. The only other game in town is Hyundai/Kia... and anything similar to this has major reliability issues and the interior falls apart ('I've owned one)
The Altima gets more flak than it deserves especially this generation. The ride quality is smooth and the overall styling and features are great for the price.
At work, we leased 6 2019 Altimas to replace our aging increasingly unreliable Taurus(s,ii?) In the last few years there have been almost no problems, just oil changes and batteries. The seats are decent( these are rental spec models), the phones sync up just fine. Frankly they are quite efficient, reliable people haulers. Not sporty or "engaging" it be sure, but capable.
Best rental car ever. I may not be 100% since it's been years... but after you fill one of these up at the gas station, the range meter will say 500+ miles. Please confirm if this is still the case. This car is built for multi-state cruising for customer visits and sales conferences. Make sure you hang up your sport coat before settling into those seats!
Honestly, I thought you guys were going to destroy this car with negative comments, but it turned out to be quite the opposite! The car looks good, drives good, it’s comfortable, it’s quick and fuel efficient at the same time. It’s seems to be a really good car, definitely an option to consider.

I've owned 7 Nissans since 1992 and currently own a 2015 Xterra Pro-4X and a 2017 370Z (which I run the HELL out of). I can count all of the issues I've had with them on one hand. My mind is blown when I hear about vehicles always being in the shop like Mark's Volvo he just dumped. Just avoid the CVT's and you will be fine. Or if you have a CVT, make sure the correct fluid is used as some mechanics use the WRONG fluid.
not sure about the rest of the country, but around here if you see an Altima near you on the street/highway, you back off and try to go the other way. Something bad's about to happen. Typically on one donut-spare, and going 15mph faster than flow of traffic (& weaving).
Yes to your point I have never had much trouble with Nissan engines however I've always been very wary of their transmissions. You would think they would have developed more reliable robust transmissions with all the experience they have of how not to do it
Having owned a 370Z with the VVEL system (which by all accounts is reliable), I trust Nissan to execute complex ideas in engine evolution. I'm not going to buy one of these, but if I had to guess I'd say the variable compression system will perform and age well. Perhaps we'll see it used more widely.
It has performed well, 6 years of production with VC turbos on nissan/infiniti models. The negative stigma comes from unreliable owners/ lack of maintenance.
@@stevev1008 for real? I hadn't heard of it before today. But when you think of how complex an engine already is, this isn't all that much more complicated. Just a few extra moving parts.

Thank you for reviewing more common commuter vehicles like this. My current commuter car is a 2013 Audi A6 Quattro. I drove a 2021 Altima SR rental last year and I was very impressed. Kids and I especially liked the seats. I thought the CVT was fine driving normally, I hope it lasts over 200k though. This is on my short list when I want a newer commuter car, although I'll most likely avoid the VC engine due to possible future repair headaches. I say the 2.5 AWD SR is the sweet spot, and I'm glad Nissan is striving to fill the value niche instead of more expensive offerings from Honda and Mazda as mentioned in the video.
I traded my 2016 Altima in for a 2016 Audi A6 a year ago but I have no doubt I would have got 200k on the Altima. Maintenance is key on the CVT's, heat is the #1 killer of them. Fluid starts to break down and causes all kinds of issues. Buy an after market oil cooler and change the CVT fluid every 30k and it will last. I drove mine from OH to VA every couple months and it did great. Personally I was changing my CVT fluid once/yr but I am OCD and drive 20k+ a year. Great transmissions if you take care of them and don't drive them beyond their intended use.
@@adamgrier6918 Nissan doesn't recommend fluid changes except in extreme driving conditions, if I remember correctly. I always did my own fluid changes and there are some very good how-to's on YT. Just make sure you follow and don't overfill.
Again as an Automotive Technician I can tell you that misfires, fishbite misfires and driveability concerns will likely be more difficult. But something tells me that this engine will work mostly trouble free up to a certain mileage. And the vehicle total value will likely be less than its worth to fix the engine. Oil changes......oil changes will likely be even more imperative. It stands to reason that the more complex a system the higher the rate of failure. Hopefully I won't be working in these things. By the time they start failing I'll be retired. I think more and more cars are made with planned obsolescence. Although many will last far more than 100k miles. Once you get to that point they break consistently until it's worth almost nothing. And parts supply is already an issue. So we'll see.
Memes aside I can tell you as a valet the Altima is actually practical, comfortable, and a good daily driver. I'm tall and have back problems and the Altima is way more comfortable than the Corolla (which to me is a deal breaker for the Toyota). Can't speak for long term reliability i've driven many of them with 200k+ miles and the owners said they have never replaced the trans or engine they just do preventative maintenance as normal. Many of the owners do perpetuate the memes though lol.
This video made me cry twice: the whole review was hilarious, but the comment section is on fire in this one🔥Amazing how a Nissan Altima review can make my day
Jokes aside I really like the direction Nissan’s going overall. It’s a fun car for non car people at an affordable price…I’d still get a versa with a manual over this though I bet that’s fun to beat the shit out of lol.
The SR trim adds the different springs and thicker rear sway bar from a Maxima to make a decent Accord like handling package so scour your junkyards for maximas for a budget upgrade. I like my SRs handling for a fwd coming from 6spd RX8
The Altima's exterior and interior are decent, but it's difficult to separate this car from the living memes who drive them, Nissan's cringeworthy marketing, and the fear the CVT will spontaneously explode because JATCO.
The engine video has the driver wearing nice brown oxford shoes... A dignified business man taking out high interest loans to finally achieve the pleasure of driving a mid-sized Nissan. They really know their customer base 😂
Id argue you wont find amything impressive in the world of sedan till you get to around 55k. You go from a camry to an accord, altima, k5 and they are all pretty much the same.
@cj miller I have to agree. I love my 2020 civic but it doesn't match up to the 2012 Audi A6 I had for a couple years. The next car I'm picking up will definitely be an Audi sedan/wagon or a BMW M2/M3.
Just rented one and it was a damn good car. Excellent fuel economy, quiet and compliant ride. The only negative was the brakes which were a bit spongy. If you closed my eyes and asked what kind of car it was , you’d think it was a premium brand.
Great work horse car. 115K miles will hit 10 years for me come May. However I cannot wait to upgrade to something entirely different and Toyota to get away from all these negative stigma.

That big Altima energy on driving impression 😂
Small critique: The VC system actually does not change the stroke length. It changes the stroke position vertically so the TDC and BDC points move up and down together. This changes the combustion chamber size... And thus the compression ratio
Great catch, thanks for the explanation

😂😂😂
Are you going to get the front end fixed or leave the bumper hanging per tradition?
Expired plates = expired deer.

@@TheAnarchy1970 is the CVT fluid change part of Nissan recommended preventive maintenance? or did you take it somewhere else to do?

Savage Altima Energy, for when Big Altima Energy just ain't enough. 😂
If they ever do a movie of that 1983 movie Christine, it needs to be an Altima.
