With no sense of irony and I mean this in the best possible way, I get the same enjoyment out of your videos as I do from Bob Ross' The Joy of Painting. A calm voice and a love for a hobby.

      Darrark
...or David Attenborough of vintage computers. :)
IMHO the nature documentarist- comparison works better with LGR because of sciency content.
Bob Ross is more of an artist.

Mixed emotions now. Went to check what models this guy offers, and he doesn't sell them anymore, which is a bummer. But he only stopped selling them because he actually got a job AT Lego! Really happy for him, but a shame these kits aren't going to continue to be available.

At first I thought the price was a bit much, but after seeing the finished product, I think the price is fitting now. He with through so much to design the interior as well as the exterior of the pc. That is amazing. I knew about him for a while now, but never really knew he paid so much attention to detail. Very cool. Thanks for sharing this with us LGR.

  • @dojix96
    @dojix96 8 лет назад +135

I remember Lego making a software where you could design your own Lego and then order it as a whole set. It gave you a 3D building environment to figure it out, and it'd estimate a price and even generate a building guide for you, you should look into how much it'd take to make a big Lego IBM PC.

This video was extremely nostalgic for me. When I was 9 or so, I had a big tub full of random lego parts, and I would make just about anything that interested me. Most memorable were big buildings with elevators, and vehicles that had home furnishings inside.
As for kits, I never really made them, except that it was a source for more parts.

Would love to see you build a Windows 98 machine. Because most games made for Windows 98 are of a VERY special disposition where they refuse to run on any system prior and any operating system that followed- (Sans a handful of exceptions that barely run on XP with compatibility settings) -so you pretty much need a dedicated machine for your windows 98 games. And if you try installing such games on a 64 bit computer, then you're pretty much doomed from the start because they often have 16bit code which 64bit operating systems can't run. Even using Virutal Box on a modern computer is a pain in the ass because
the ungodly awful Windows 98 drivers can cause performance issues.
Maybe a more beefed-up version of the Hot Wheels/Barbie computers might be neat? If I recall, there were a ton of other kids themed desktops from that era with cases that would be much better for modding...

I'm a 35 year old male from the mid west with similar interests as you. I remember lego sets when I was a kid such as Technic. There have been kits for as long as I can remember. I used to get a box of legos and there was a card you mailed away to order a catalog for the kits. You had to mail away for them, and it took a while.
I'm watching this all the way through. I enjoy seeing both the computer take form and your reactions.
If you made a lego assembly channel, I'd subscribe.

This video was an interesting mix of relaxing and energizing for me.
Relaxing because I'm watching you put together Lego bricks. Energizing because of your commentary and quirky personality that I like so much.
What I enjoyed about this video the most is you acting like a kid and shouting "This is so cool!" every 5 minutes. What I also found very amusing is you trying to figure out what are you building and then geeking out when you realized you were building an expansion card or PSU.
    Great video. More please. xD

I just spent an hour watching you build this computer. don't ask why. but I enjoyed the whole time. I kinda wanna go back into building Lego stuff right now, haha! by the way, the flat tiles are great, because they smooth out everything, I always liked those.
i watch a lot of make up tutorials and get ready with me videos and this right here was a little those. it was fun 'hanging out' with you and watch you having fun with the Lego thingies. I liked how you explained the inside of the computer along the way. to be honest, I don't have a clue about computers. I've had an Schneider cpc 464 with the 3"disk drive and after that an amiga 500 back in the days. after those I didn't have a computer at all for many years. and now I'm interested in all that old technologies. and in Lego, haha! OK, enough story time. thanks for this video!
