I can't put into words how much that throwback intro on the first video brought joy to me back when I watched it in 2016. With the channel growing so much, I can imagine that one off throwback is a bit of a cause for confusion for newer people who haven't dug into the older stuff, but for someone who's been around since forever, that thing was an absolute delight! Hard to believe it's been seven years since that already, where has time gone?!

Thank you for this one Clint! I have enjoyed watching the woodgrain 486 evolve over time, but this compilation was a treat.
I remember the first PC my family got was a 486. We picked up a Packard Bell 486 SX 33 desktop from Best Buy in 1993. If I remember correctly, the specs were:
    CPU: 486 SX 33
    RAM: 4MB
    HDD: 210 MB
    With a 1.44 MB 3.5" floppy drive
My mother got us the Creative Labs 2X CD drive/Sound Blaster combo bundle for Christmas that year. We added 8MB of extra RAM at one point and a 510MB HDD. There wasn't mounting space in the desktop case, so we wedged it in there using some foam. :D
Played a lot of Doom and Quest for Glory on that machine.

I can feel myself getting older every time a youtuber I've been watching for a very long time reminds me of just how long I've been watching them.
I remember massive beard LGR sitting in a ratty 70s armchair, do you?

A good watch! With the length, I did spread it out over multiple sittings. Still, both RUclips and my browser kept my place well enough. Thanks for the lovely stroll down a surprisingly-long Memory Lane; hard to believe you've had the Woodgrain 486 for 7 years now!

This is one of my favorite series on your channel because I grew up with the 486 and soundblaster playing Jill and Keen, etc. It was cool to hear your additional thoughts on the project and RUclips is making it harder to watch older videos so it’s good to have it all together like this. Thanks and looking forward to your next video

I must have missed the first episode of the Woodgrain 486 video way back then, but it was fascinating to see your first inter-episode segment at around 1:10:40 with the name 'Pionex'.
'Pionex' for a short while made PC's in around 1999/2000 for AAFES (Army and AirForce Exchange Service); the PX/BX retail stores for US military personnel. They were almost a 'house brand' but never sold too well as we also sold AST and Compaq desktop PC's back then, and our customers preferred the brand names they new best (we'd dumped the Packard Bell things a few years earlier!! 😉). Nice to see that old name turn up again though! Thanks for the memories... 👍

I have been following this project for quite a while, though I started only a few years ago. It's a fascinating idea. I have had an Everex Megacube for over a decade. It was retired where I used to work, for Y2k reasons. Ever since I got it, I had wanted to try a wood grain finish on it. The main things that have stopped me, are: The case is dark gray, and I'm not sure how well that goes with wood grain. Also, it has two side panels that I can easily apply the grain to, but the top is one piece & includes the front. I would like the top to have a woodgrain finish as well, but it would take a bit of work & care to figure out how to divide it up. The main factor is that it is extremely heavy. I strained my back, last time I did work on it. In any case, I have still been able to get good use out of it, as an end/lamp table & a decorative PC that doubles as furniture.

Ahh the grain. These videos are what pretty much got me into this hobby. Now I have bins upon bins full of random stuff and multiple pcs in working and non working order but thats part of the charm. I love the nostalgia boost I get every-time I mess with any of these old electronics. Thank you LGR!

The fact that you documented/archived all this into one video is pretty slick.

If I recall correctly, I think in the very early 90s or even later 80s I believe my parents had a wood grain station wagon car. It got in an accident so it was totaled but man I remember being in that car as a kid. I didn't realize this was 5 HOURS! might need to watch it all over a few days. Love these videos man.

I'm a 3D artist and I love having your videos on while I'm working, they are super relaxing. Actually decided to do a Windows XP artwork recently and just put together a very basic Windows XP PC, though tbh I ordered a minicomputer off Amazon to "build" it because of space. The artwork is going to be displayed on an old LCD monitor as the wallpaper. Excited to explore some stuff, now I'm gonna check out your vids for some more cool Windows XP inspiration.
