Hello Rick, I've got a 96 G 30, have issues with my lock on both cab doors, been on going for almost 2 yrs, grateful for any help on that . your drop sure was a big diff wow I'll be checking to see what the fix is.
Thanks for your post. I actually already planned on making a video on how to fix door lock problems. I will make a video on this soon. So hit the bell icon. But if you cant wait most likely you have worn out parts. There are several possibilities including, most likely the door hinge pins and bushings. If not the hinge pins and bushings then a replacement door locking assembly and lastly the latch pin. The best way to tell if the hinge pins and bushings are bad is to open the doors and lift up on them from the door jamb lower corner. They should be firm but if you can feel play movement up and down that means the hinges need replacing or rebuilding. Junk yard replacement hinges can still be found in good shape I have a 1973 with bad hinges so I ordered a rebuild kit for my van and was sent the incorrect rebuild kit. So I went to the junk yard and picked up a set of 4 hinges for $5.00 and a locking assembly for a few bucks more. It is VERY common to have this problem with these vans and GM pick up trucks of the same era. The bad news is either repair requires removal of the door hinges. You can replace 1 at a time if you have a floor jack. Anyway stay tuned and thanks for watching.
15 X 8 Cragar wheels with P235 70R 15 tires I installed the 2 and 1/2 offset drop spindles from BROTHERS TRUCK PARTS part number DLS0S00 73-87 60-87 DROP SPINDLES - OFF-SET 73-87 C10 pickup truck And factory hight Moog 6452 coil springs.
Since you replaced your front grill do you want to sell your original front grill ? I have shorty headers For mine what headers did you use. I have a turbo 400 trans getting ready to order over drive going with gear vendors over drive.
These are the headers I installed. www.summitracing.com/parts/hed-69060/make/chevrolet/model/g20 My old grill that came on the van I think is aftermarket. But I am going to sell it along with the headlight bezels. I will stick them on ebay eventually. The T 400 is a great transmission I wish I had on on my vans. I have the T 350 I do have the OD on my 1989. I have been considering swapping it into my gold van but I think I would also have to swap out the complete rear differential as well because of the different gearing. Not sure I want to go through all that hassle. I also just bought another Chevy van 10 without a drive train. It is a 1973 full size G10 I will be putting up a video very soon of that van. I am tempted to take the engine and trans from the 1989 and stick it into the 73 and just sell or use the 89 as a storage shed. The 89 only has 48K original miles but a rough body but a EFI roller cam 305 with the 700R4....
Hi Rick, so is it definitely the way to go using the offset drop spindles rather than the ordinary drop spindles? Did you see my message about the headlight bezels?
Is that you Greg? Yes according to brothers the 3 inch drop spindles are NOT offset and will push the tire/wheel out too far. "BROTHERS high quality dropped spindles are the best way to lower the front of your truck. These drop spindles will directly bolt on to your stock ball joints and tie rods while requiring the use of 71-87 disc brake components. These "Off-Set" spindles are designed with 2-1/2" drop while only increasing your track width up to 1/4" per side. Standard 71-87 drop and stock spindles will increase track width 3/4" per side on 60-70 applications. If used on 71-87 trucks, the track width will actually decease to allow additional room for wider wheels /tires."
@@ricksteelcustoms3196 You might try a 235/60/15. They are 2" smaller in diameter. You'll go from 28" to 26". That should give you the clearance you need.
@@vanningmike I already solved the issue with stock hight coil springs. Besides I am very likely going to be swapping out the tires and wheels for torque thrust 2s 17 inch up front and 19 or 20 out back. Did you see my part 2 video?
What pat of the frame rail is in the way? I know it will come close to the fuel pipe but depending on how much you lower it, it shouldn't hit. The nice thing about the full size vans is that the fuel filler tube is behind the leaf spring so no issue about hitting it.
@@ricksteelcustoms3196 I was going to do a flip. In that scenario the space is cramped. I thought of re-holing the front pocket but was afraid it'd stress the pinion angle. It's OK as-is, I just keep a full tank of gas to weigh the rear down lol.
@@xpicklepie Actually you can correct the pinion angle by installing some feaf spring axel wedge shims. Take a look at these Belltech 3 Degree Pinion Shims for Pickups with 2.5" & 3" Wide Leaf Springs. I found on ebay. eBay item number: 223607105374 Installing a higher placed hole in the front pocket is the best and easiest way to lower the van plus it is free unless you don't have the drill and bit. But you have issue with that fuel pipe in the way. Maybe a muffler shop can fabricate a reroute for the pipe? That is what is great about the full size vans you don't have that problem.
@@ricksteelcustoms3196 Thanks for the link. Hole-sawing the front pocket would eliminate the fuel tube clearance as well. One other thing about the tube is that it's very narrow and when pumping gas it fills slow and kicks off the nozzle. I was going to use a bigger pipe but it goes through the rail and pipes fuel in at a 90 deg, angle so it'd be a tough mod. My '77 C20 does this too. Oh well.
If you have an 8 lug no. But if you really wanted to lower it you could get some drop by going with a drop springs made for a C10. But I have not done this before. So do it at your own risk. But I did put a G30 spring on my G20 because I wanted to give it a lift and it worked great. The other option would be swopping out the spindles springs and rotors from a G10 but you would also have to get new 5.5 lug wheels and then you might also want to swap out the rear diff/axel to have uniformity. But YES anything is possible if you want it badly enough at least in the custom car and van world. Best of luck and thanks for watching. Give "Brothers truck parts" or "cj pony parts" a call they might have more info for you to digest and if anybody has the parts they will.
Thanks for watching I currently have P235 70R 15 tires But I am not going to keep them I am going with torq thrust 2 polished wheels 20 inch for the rear and 18 inch wheels for the front Chevy Van G10 G20 G30 2 & 1/2 inch drop spindles with stock springs. And C3 Corvette mirrors Part 2 ruclips.net/video/i0tkkropvMU/видео.html

Nice looking Van !
Thank you.
Shooting star 🌠 @12:14 😀
I dropped mine 3in and had all kinds of problems with it. Gonna go up to a 1 1/2 in drop. Rubbed the front tires. Been a pain in the ass since
You used the regular 3 inch drop spindles. I used the 2 and 1/2 inch offset spindles with factory hight springs. This combo is NOT an issue.

Was the control arm rubbing the inner rim?
Yes. Also watch my newer videos on this van I made many more changes.
