- ALL NEW! In this break from Popeye (with bumper) are plugs for Crest and a trailer for Star Wars, and then it's an In the News segment spotlighting Roller Skating (introduced by Bugs Bunny?!) sponsored by the then all-new Hubba Bubba gum. Then it's a promo for Mighty Mouse and Heckle and Jeckle!

I will NEVER FORGET the IN THE NEWS SECTION.....and that music!!!!!! Love it!!!
Kids today will never know the joys of Saturday mornings as we, who grew up in the 60's and 70's did. Christopher Glenn's voice was an amazing moment of nostalgia...those were some of the best times of my life, watching cartoons (and don't forget the live-action shows, too!) on Saturdays! We were a lucky generation!
The true Saturday Morning for children died at least 25-30 years ago. Network affiliates would complain about the lack of revenue and the feeds lasting too long (five hours or more of network programming), preempt certain shows for other syndicated programming and/or run the network programming off feed. I remember growing up in the New York market and the other surrounding affiliates wouldn't carry all of the network programming. The New York stations were owned and operated so they were mandated to carry ALL of the network's shows and they were carried on feed in most cases unless the networks had sports (i.e. NFL Divisional Playoffs, Wimbledon tennis, or College Football).
OliveOyl12590 LOL!! That's true, Olive. THen they had to go and change it so we could be 'educated' Blah!!! I hate it when the gov steps in and ruins it for everyone.
kimdkus I remembered watching "Disney's One Saturday Morning" with my kids and ABC would have that "light bulb" with the announcer saying, "Illuminating Television". In most cases, the "educational TV" was nothing more than Professor Chris Williams doing a 10 second segment called, "What's Up With That" and ABC would air the piece inside the commercial breaks.
Whoa don't discount us folks who grew up in the 80's. Our Saturday morning cartoons and commercials were kick ass too!
Daryl Taylor LOL!! I wouldn't think of doing that. :))))
i wish they brought back In the News. I liked those segments.
It would be fake news now lol.
I remember the CBS Saturday 'In The News' growing up in the 70's and 80's. Sure miss it.
Me too to the memories.
It's amazing how everything comes back from your memory.. The "in the news" music, the guys voice, even the hubba bubba commericial.
Love it.
Always loved these "In The News" segments and that "blippety-blippety-blippety" theme music. CBS continued airing these on Saturday mornings until about the late 1980s.
sounds kinda like the music for tv guide
The original Star Wars preview and Hubba Bubba commercial made me soooo happy.
Oh, boy. My Saturday mornings as a kid 😊 love the memories.
Oh man!! I remember, IN the News!!!
I remember it too. I thought it was pretty cool.
I looked forward to this!
Feeling nostalgic, I specifically looked for videos with the CBS 'news ball' and its bizarre bubbling sound. I got a lot more than I was looking for. Thanks for posting! :D
Man, these CBS In The News items had been on my mind for decades (not the news items themselves, but the weird electronic music, lol)...so I finally decided to search "Saturday morning cartoons news items" on here.
Thanks for the memories, WREYtube!
...but I have to wonder...did they seriously think kids would comprehend or take interest in these news items? lol
Boy this is great stuff thanks for posting it! CBS was the undisputed king of Saturday morning kid's programming for years in the 70's when I was a kid! Love seeing all the old commercials and the bumpers too!
Good Stuff, huh??? :)
It was a different time. It was a different world. - Bucky Covington
DUDE!!!!! God bless you this was a serious treat!!!!
Good Stuff, huh??? :)
The only news we needed on Saturdays. We’re not brainwashed 24/7,thank God!
Thank you for sharing these memories! I used to love these informative news clips! Smart thing for them to add to the Saturday morning cartoon binges.
Original Star Wars trailer, awesome! I remember "In the News" for sure.Hey! What ever happened to Popeye? I never liked Crest toothpaste in those days, nasty tasting.I like Aqua Fresh or Aim.
We need to bring back saturday morning cartoons!
MeTV has Saturday Morning Cartoons since January 2021.
@@jasonvancura2139 Hope MeTV would launch a new 24/7 separate network, MeTV Kids & Teens.
Ah roller skating, roller rinks. Great memories from the late 70's.
Wow I remember all of this, thank you for uploading!
I don't remember this exact segment, but I do remember the wireframe globe and the sound effects.
That wireframe globe was kinda scary to me as a kid, for this and the CBS Mid-Day/Mid-Morning/Evening News and Newsbreak segments that also had that globe at the time. The commonality with that globe is it turned into the CBS eye logo at some point.
dammitt...you made me cry.
Christopher Glenn died of liver cancer in 2006, but was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame posthumously.
Lol...
Roller skating in Okeechobee rink in 1979...
Sending love from Miami, FL..
this makes me miss being a kid.
What a great Era of Saturday morning can we go back to that Era please anybody agrree
I remember rollerskating when they played disco music.
Wasn't that Dick Clark's American Bandstand and Soul Train?
I remember the Crest "cavity creeps" commercial.
I always loved these segments on Saturday mornings. :-)
Here's another interesting story that's In The News!
Time machine, please. I need to go back to this time in my life.
1:16 Bugs Bunny said, "Here's another interesting story that is In the News!"
Thank you for the memories!
Yeah... the Saturday schedules of today are a joke... today's kids don't know what they are missing... :)
So now we have to crush their hopes and tell them, as future people from the year 2013, that Roller Skating still isnt in the Olympics
Wow! How cool, I felt like a kid again, I just turned 11 when this was on.......Nice, thanks for this...
I watched "In the News" in the 60s! I was already put of high school by '79.
the new adventures of heckle and jeckle came out this one at 3:50
James Greek said "Star Wars came out in 1977".....Yes, but it was re-released theatrically in 1978, 1979, 1981, and 1982.
May the force be with you. :-)
Jim S. Jim, I am your Father!! Wait, what??
An Star Wars is still going strong
1:50 That guy was in Back To The Future Part III. He and Pat Buttram and another guy were at a table in the Saloon when Marty first enters it in the movie.
oh wow! I was born on that month and year when this came out!
Wow, talk about a trip down Memory Lane! I probably watched this when it first aired!
Yeah, they used to keep those movies in the theatres for years; they did the same with ROJ
Aaahh the memories
"WE! MAKE! HOLES-IN-TEETH! WE! MAKE! HOLES-IN-TEETH!"
What a memory jog! There was certainly more creativity and originality on the TV airwaves back then compared to the abject idiocy nowadays, not in the least helped by another 30+ years of societal fluoride poisoning. Then again, they did juxtapose toothpaste and bubblegum commercials...
RollerBoogie BABY!!
Curse those Cavity Creeps! (How about another piece of Hubba Bubba)
Was Star was Released in 1979 ?? Thanks for the Upload !! I love the 70's music !! XD
Star Wars came out in 1977
Yes, but they ran it in the theaters for a long time.
Getting older sucks!!!!
Bugs bunny and now another interesting story from in the news
The Star Wars trailer is a bonus!
3:27 tennis was indeed eventually added as an Olympic sport in ‘88 interestingly where steffi graf pulled off the only golden slam in an Olympic yr in tennis history something Serena couldn’t do but she benefits from the media’s recency bias
Saturday Morning 7 am grab a bowl of cereal turn on the tv & start watching cartoons usually start on NBC for about an hour & then CBS for about 2 hours & then end on ABC for the last 2 hours & the the ABC weekend special to end it
OMG! we make holes in teeth!!! crest ad
Agree 100%...
god I remember roller skating, I used to goto Dancing wheels, but they closed down and put a dumb ass clinic office,
The original Star Wars,no Disney!lol, authentic they way it suppose to be
1:20 I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Japanese-American (so obviously, the Hiroshima In the News is not pleasant for me to watch). Regardless of my race, did anybody else close to my age, find the "background noise/music/clicking" to be a little bit scary-sounding? When the segment ended, it sounded like bells in a plastic ball toy that we all have.
... and probably never will be... you'd probably see something along the lines of roller-blading first... :)
Has to be popular, how the hell did curling get admitted?
B.D.R.E.---(Before Disney Ruined Everything).
Probably a re-release.
great the news
YEP, that bubbly, quirky "In The News" syntho fanfare. I always found it simultaneously endearing and slightly obnoxious, sort of like one of your siblings suddenly leaning toward you and deliberately belching in your ear while you were sitting on the couch watchin' the tube on a Saturday morning.
WHAT ??! Hell, NO, I never did anything nasty like that.
Honest.
