mike watts however Reaper 1 is right about one thing. You can’t just play it anytime of the year. It would have to be if the Steelers went to the Super Bowl or something like that so it would mean something to the audience especially the older audience who saw Joe Greene play and this commercial air for the first time.
This year's Super Bowl was just played last night (2/11/2024). Not one of the commercials aired will ever be remembered and still give people "the feels" the way this brilliant ad did...and still does.
The kid's knocked out and Mean Joe Green is like "OH SHIT! OH FUCK! Kid I'm so sorry!" Then notices nobody saw it was him who threw the bottle so he pulls a hit and run on the kid. Leaves him all floppy and unconscious there.

Russell Wilson is walking to the locker room after the Super Bowl. He's sad cause he just lost. A kid comes up to him in the tunnel "Hey Russ, I think you played a good game, if that means anything." I live in Cincinnati and went down to the Bengals practice game a few months ago. There is an area where the team walks across the street to get into the stadium. Signs posted on fence rails telling fans not to speak to players. This 8 year old said hello to Joe Burrows from about 10 ft away. Joe turned and threw him his towel. Magical. Thanks Joe. The 5 of us standing there will never forget that.
This commercial is still voted in nearly every fan poll the all time favorite commercial of all time not just sports commercial but all commercials. That's saying something when you consider how many of the people voting weren't even alive when this commercial was made.
Classic, iconic commercial. Coca-cola hit it out of the park with this ad. They should play this every superbowl for the first ad just because what it represents for the NFL
This is quite possibly the best Super Bowl ad ever, it's so heartwarming and beautiful!!! Happy Super Bowl Day everyone!!! I know that's not what they call this day but still that's what I call it :)

The show Good Times referenced "Mean Joe Greene," and I had to find this commercial! 😅😅 My husband and I were reminiscing about when we were children and watching football games on television with our dad's! 😂😂
I remember this commercial when I was a kid and watching Mean Joe play. Unlike commercials today, this one had a lot of redeeming value and still does.
I only watched this for the heck of it today. But then I just realized that today (10-1-19) marks the fortieth anniversary the commercial's debut. How crazy is that!
9-24-19...Happy Birthday to 'Mean' Joe Greene...celebrating his 73rd today. One of the all time greats. Pushed Coach Noll to stick with Terry Bradshaw at QB...the rest is history. ..four rings.
"Hey Kid, Catch!" was a television commercial for Coca-Cola starring Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle "Mean" Joe Greene. The commercial debuted on October 1, 1979, and was re-aired multiple times, most notably during Super Bowl XIV in 1980. The 60-second commercial won a Clio Award for being one of the best television commercials of 1979.

Cause football ain't what it used to be.. ( I don't watch it only when at family house for holidays and that all they watch) they don't have respect anymore
It's interesting that Mean Joe and the kid reunited years later. When they showed a countdown of the best Super Bowl commercials, the two were reminiscing about the time this was shot.
It was a different era....a time before the rise of the Nanny State. Seat-belts were for pussies. Kids rode around in the back of open pickup trucks. Bicycle helmets were virtually unknown. Kids played with metal lawn darts that could actually kill them. High schools had a "smoking lounge", for students. Doctors smoked cigarettes right INSIDE their offices. Toys were coated in lead paint. Parents didn't have to worry about being arrested for "child neglect", just because their parents let them play outside alone & unattended. Men used the Men's room & women used the lady's room, period. "Singers" didn't rely on "auto-tune", etc, & so on. TV stations "signed off" at around midnight-2am. It was a great time. People who didn't live in that era, don't really understand the true meaning of "Freedom & Liberty"
I had a spin welder! It was a toy welder! It used a heat gun to weld plastic and you could build a car with it. The welder plugged into the wall socket and it would burn you if mishandled. I think I was 8 when I got that. I am a child of the 70's and it was AWESOME! Summer vacations were time well spent. Tan with scabbed knees and elbows. Every house in the neighborhood had a mom home and she would give you a band-aid or kool-aid or both. Divorce went up 300 percent back then. I watched all the dads get kicked out. It was the start of what we have today.
