  • Schizophrenic artist discuss the experiences (mostly his own) of "schizophrenia" which is a mental condition affecting about 1 in every 100 people. More common than diabetes or MS, which are also very common.
    I also discuss thoughts on why people with schizophrenia get sick, I address ways in which schizophrenic tendencies might be beneficial and be integrated in healthy ways, and I address what I think about the causes of the individual schizophrenic predicament.

    Wow I’m blown away by your insight and your ability to so aptly express what you have experienced. My brother is schizophrenic and up until now no one in our family ever talked about it, other than saying he’s just crazy, lazy and manipulating people to get what he wants or he’s selfish all he ever talks about is himself! I grew up hearing such things and it made me afraid of him until I finally decided to find out for myself what it means to be schizophrenic. After my research this is what I have concluded, it turns out that my brother is really fractured into a myriad of brilliant, outrageous, curious, reflective collective of deeply hurt and loving aspects of himself. Now I find him to be a fascinating, breathing walking miracle. He’s usually a loud person but every now and then when he really wants to convey something to me he leans in closely and quietly in a near whisper shares his most profound feelings, then leans back into his world with a glint in his eye and a smile on his face. Right there and then I can see him and it comforts me to know that he’s still all there! I stand in awe of my brother for he is not a wreck but rather a masterpiece that one can only look at with great wonder! I truly love my brother and all his glimmering pieces. I’m sure I’ll be watching this video a few times to be able to experience the fullness of what you shared. You are amazing and I suspect that your life is more gratifying than that of most people’s. Thank you for allowing us to get to know you a little bit you couldn’t have done it any better!

      susan m thank you for your comment and a snapshot of your brother's story. Brings some tearful rushing that you found a route to be more compassionate, understanding, and hopeful than you were before your research. Your brother gained a powerful ally. May you better support him, and maybe even bring some insight to your family. That would be good for them but may be a significant benefit to your brother too. Inclusion and acceptance is huge. My family support (emotional, direct financial) is exceptional and I can easily say I depend on it for the >quality of my survival. I'm glad your brother has someone like you on his side. The notion of "fracture" or "shattering" of aspects of the self is accurate... Thank you. You said that well without falling in line with stereotype and stigma about "multiple personality". That is great!!

    Thank you so much. When i started listening to you i started crying because it was like watching myself. You and i are so similar and so are our stories....and experiences. I am learning to try and find a balance. Its been really hard for the last 5 years. Now things are going better. I focus on my art and exercise. Brother do you know what i think. I think we are special and beautiful. I find that the most powerful thing is learning to love myself. Compassion and respect towards myself in everyway and doing what i can to serve other people. Much love to you. Thank you for your video. Peter.

    Thank you so much for the explanation. I'm glad you're doing well right now. It becomes pretty clear most of the people suffering from this terrible disease are more intelligent than the average person, like you, for instance. It's amazing how you can expose all the process of suffering you're going through with such clarity and help to demystify it to the general public. That's probably the best patients can do to contribute to the cure of this illness.

    You make an excellent point, even if there is some truth to a schizophrenic's unique and seemingly random conclusions, there is always room for reasonable doubt. We need support from others in this life, we need people to tell our ideas and stories to.

    You sound like a very intelligent and well mannered individual. Thank you for sharing! I had an uncle that recently passed away who was schizophrenic. He was very misunderstood in our large family circle and after watching your video it gives me some insight as to who he was. For that I appreciate your words and am glad you are getting better!
    As for myself, I have questioned weather or not it runs in the family gene, and also if you know which drugs would most likely induce this ilness. I am a recreational user at music festivals and would like an opinion on what to stay away from as so many phsycadelics are being used by youth these days. Personally i have enjoyed them but would like to stay away from the ones that could potentially lead to a shift in mental health.
    Thanks again.

    The word schizophrenia provokes fear in most people..Scientific studies aside.. How do they know your not a more highly evolved being ! I feel like your more connected to your own mind than most people.
    I sometimes hear music & I engage in random wordplay like its a sport .. Lol because Im a artistic type /musician but i just accept it as part of me now & that everyone is gifted & cursed to a degree.
    Im not qualified ,but I believe that if "mental illness" were more accepted in society that people on the fringe wouldn't feel so alienated & maybe experience less stress integrating & fewer episodes...

    Friend, I'm also schizophrenic and you gave a lot of really good information I find helpful. I've only been experiencing symptoms for about 3 years (at 21 and I'm 24 now) but recently started talking about it finally in recent months and was only diagnosed about 6 months ago but have been on and off anti-psychotic medication since my first episode/institutionalized in 2012. I still don't know and understand everything about it, and have a difficult time accepting/comming to terms with it.

      Not everything you read will apply, but if enough applies enough of the time, then that seems reasonable to accept. Not everything is theoretically simple or completely understood. Sometimes doctors or pharmaceutical companies need to be checked rather than blindly endorsed without oversight FROM "underneath", that is, from patients and those who identify in different personal ways.
      Keep talking!

    My 19 yr old son is in a hospital for 2 weeks now and has this diagnosis. Had a specific dilution for almost a yr. And there's other dilutions and I'm just learning all this. He was always not a big talker, an introvert, but I thought he was like me. I have ocd, anxiety, depression. When I saw him in his own mind, I thought he just may have a lot of cod rituals in his head. I has no idea...so now I'm trying to learn. Thank you for sharing.

      +Mimi Pickard hopefully he keeps your support. Some schizophrenics are estranged and lonely as adults. It is hard on everyone. I would try to force thw delusions away. Support your son's other ideas and occupations. Support him accepting that he has been unwell. Even though delusions mean unhealthy belief and obsession, the fact is some "sane, healthy" people endorse those beliefs and make a living off the internet by sharing those beliefs. So just denying delusions doesn't work in my experience. Change the subject.

    Hey. So I've been to some psychologists when I was like 12 and they told me that I have "strong imagination" or whatev. Well 1 year ago when I was going through self harm anxiety and some hallucinations I met a women that told me that I'm going for paranoic schizofrenia or something like bipolar. My most constant hallucination is a guy with a head of a goat, and it actually helped me through my self harm situation and now kind of my second persona. I just wanted to talk to someone about this and not beign in a risk of psych ward

    I have schizo-affective disorder and I can't ever seem to find a way to explain what it is like to my friends. You did a good job of relating your experience. I hope I can explain my experiences as well as you have done at some point. Myfriends just don't get it. Some think I'm going to become dangerous because I am "crazy". They don't understand that I just can't do some things that other people are able to do easily. They overestimate my abilities and underestimate my intelligence frequently. They mean well, but they just can't understand. Hopefully they will someday.

  • @gregorygolando
    @gregorygolando 9 лет назад

    I like what you said in that whatever deep underlying force that may be experienced in a psychosis, there is still a lot of individual delusion surrounding it. Even if there is truth to it, individual minds still package their own pent up ideas along with that great truth. Your 'delusions' sound like what I experience in a psychotic state. the memory of it stays in my head constantly even though I do not see it in the daylight hours. It is sad there is such a poor general understanding of the psychotic mind outside of those who experience it firsthand. I feel in the middle of it and unable to share what I am experiencing with those around me, I try, but they must think it is my imagination because without experiencing the disconnect, I never would have believed in anything outside of the shells myself.

I would get mad and frustrated because he doesn't make sense. but now after watching your video. also, to the video creator. how did you realize you were schizophrenic. my brother still doesn't realize or is in denial. I've been thinking of taking him to a hospital but idk if that's the right move. I don't want to force him into something that extreme but if it helps him then I will
      did you take anti psychotic?

    • @nednednerb
      @nednednerb  7 лет назад

      +Villy P hey there. I hope you connect with your brother and that he doesn't have to go to the hospital. All in all preventing hospitalization has a better outcome and less disability. Also. The goal is to minimize suffering and stress.
      For example if he is anywhere as broke as I am, simply giving him money once a week or two weeks could improve his wellbeing. My parents started doing that for me, it makes a difference to ongoing stress.
      If he can learn about mental health and find out about different symptoms and conditions in a neutral way, I figure most people will recognize themselves. Also, do not directly argue against delusions, as that seems to cause them to be strongly defended.
      If he doesn't have a diagnosis yet, he doesn't need one. Everyone needs care in the first and second place. Having no medication means no side effects or years of invasive monitoring by pharma doctors, so avoiding that by seeking out CBT and talk therapy and knowledge is the way to go.
      Good luck!

    I know this probably doesn't compare at all and is probably not nearly as bad, but I suffered from a severe panic disorder and its interesting how it seems to share some of the symptoms, in my most extreme panic attack I remember I was in the car with my parents (bless them for helping me with everything) and it all started, the heart going faster the panic struggling to breathe etc and so we had to pull over into a field and as I was sitting there and my mind and everything raced so much, I felt so exposed and I could physically see the world getting bigger and felt like a soul leaving a body, everything was really bright as well and I felt imprisoned in the car hitting the door and the seats with my mind telling me I had to escape. Now I know this is fight or flight, but it's all rather interesting how the various mental health problems have their similarities! In a period of my life after the panic attacks with general anxiety, the avoidance behaviour is quite like a voice telling you that you can't do things in case the panic comes back, which becomes quite like an evil being that you believe lurks in unfamiliar places and is out to get you. Panic disorder probably isn't nearly as bad but I thought I'd share my experience, and good luck :)

      Yes, me to. As it is very sad to see people struggling so much with mental health issues, seems like it's almost becoming an epidemic in our societies. Their lives are taken over by this illness for decades N it seems that many families don't even educate themselves on this illness N almost assume that it's the schizophrenics fault they have this illness. Is that how they would feel it there child had a form of cancer that would devastate their child's life for decades? The videos on Utube r quite informative and help to demystify and put a human face to this disorder. I have found quite a lot of very useful info. on Utube. I have always admired the creativity that is shown from this affliction but the delusional dark side of it makes it scary enough to not want any part of it. So interesting. Sorry i do not know much about this, but i've seen a lot of people trying to open their third eye to see the spiritual world. Some when they get to open it see a lot of spiritual creatures and images. It is like their imagination or visualization gets very wild, but they see it as a blessing or like they say , ' they feel awaken'. I do not know what is the difference between an schizophrenic and a person who opens their third eye or spiritual eye?.

      ***** culture, discipline, health explain or are the descriptions of experience that might be explained. Some people like myself have a number of experiences that I do not try so hard to explain, like the difference between a vision and a delusion. They are perhaps both valid in the same experience, or at least both can be defended. And anyone who "opens their third eye" might be called a quack by a materialist christian, but that's not who I am.

    • @nednednerb
      @nednednerb  7 лет назад

      +Ami Young "testing".... Maybe. Sometimes I think about how the idea (a potential delusion) in my head "compares to reality" outside my head. What my sense of reality involves is usually a memory test....my long-term memory tells me when some of the basics are, the complexity of the personality of a person I've known a long time should hopefully override the flatness of any delusion.
      I do not have a lot of hallucination at most times, and don't usually have any reason to "test reality", such as knocking on something to see if it's there.

Now, for my question: I apologiize if you've already mentioned it in other videos but this is the first time that I seen you. Do you hear voices and what do they say? If you do, are they clear and in order?

    • @nednednerb
      @nednednerb  5 лет назад

      I started to hear voices a long time ago and sometimes hear short phrases. However, I spontaneously found dialectic talk therapy techniques on my own right when I was developing my primary symptoms. Basically there are techniques emerging in research now that explain that voices can be subdued with the right talk therapy and techniques. I realized reading about these techniques I stumbled on them long ago on my own.
      Instead of voices, I have (or had) many delusions and a kind of hallucination I could call "sense of a directly communicating mind".... Such as "God in the radio" or feeling the TV is talking to me with me in mind.

I had not suspected anything until about 3 months ago, when I noticed that he would sometimes be very anxious when we talk. He would also begin to change topics very randomly, and sometimes I would not understand what he was saying, it seemed like many thoughts were racing through his mind. Recently he has been more open to me about himself. Anyways, a few days ago, after we had hung out (which had gone pretty normally in my opinion), he messaged me saying that he wanted to end our friendship. claiming that we had nothing in common, that we weren't that close, but that he respected me. The messages all had an angry overtone to them, and he also said that he wanted to die alone. I feel very lost, as I don't think I did or said anything that could have upset him, and because of the "I want to die alone" message I fear that he's having suicidal thoughts. I have not messaged or talk to him for a few days, as I was thinking he was momentarily angry and would message me later, but he hasn't. What do you think I should do?

      Maybe text that friend's don't necessarily have to have lots in common. Tell him you also respect him and like hanging out.
      Maybe he is just having a bad time. Maybe he will appreciate you reaching out. Leave it open, by saying to get in touch when he wants to. Maybe say straight up "you don't have to be alone, can I help any way? Let me know. Whenever" it can mean a lot.

    I smoked DMT four years ago. It's been a snowball effect ever since. But I HEAR you, brother. Both beautiful & ugly the things we are in tune with are things that people outside the walls of "mental illness" might have to start coming to terms with. In a metaphysical sense. But like with everything there is a balance.

    I've been having some mental issues. When I was about 10, I experienced my first "hole" of depression and anxiety that lasted about 6 months or so. Since then, I've fallen into a few more and am currently experiencing one, but this one feels different. This time I've been asking some big question, and wondering if my existence is real, and whether or not it even matters. Asking myself questions like "is everyone around me really there? Is what I'm feeling/seeing/experiencing really happening?" And the more I try to find answers to these questions, the more questions I develop, and the harder is becomes to answer them, and the more hopeless and alone and afraid I feel. Its all so overwhelming and exhausting, i feel like my brain is operating at a million miles per hour. Just a few weeks ago I managed to think my way into thinking that I was dead and living in hell. The world looked exactly the same and all (no hell hallucinations), but my mental and emotional agony definitely made me feel that my theory could be correct. I don't want to feel this way, and am hoping there's an answer. Any thoughts? Could schizophrenia be it?

    • @nednednerb
      @nednednerb  6 лет назад

      Virginia Sotelo hi Virginia. Your description of questioning existence and feeling hell is a very, very vivid reminder of many of my own experiences. It may be prudent to note that "solipsism" is often a sincere philosophy (look it up) and also that being religious and having all sort of beliefs, about hell and heaven and who is going where, is supremely common among our species.
      What I mean is, some of these thoughts you are having are truly historically recurrent (if not exactly common, these experiences are indeed common enough to start to find them every direction in every era you start looking in. Also, it does look like you are experiencing some classic delusional symptoms. Sometimes the delusions have to convince you so shockingly that you "behave psychotic", and then you might start having other apprehensions that might become hallucinations in time.
      If I had advice for what to "do"... Keep holding on to the reality idea where we are in this together and were born on Earth and have a collective billions year old biological history and a 10,000s year old cultural history. Holy hell indeed there is a lot of reason to be depressed and ample forces trying unintentionally or even intentionally to drive us crazier. Hold onto reality and hold onto yourself.
      I wish you luck and vibrancy in your journey and efforts.

    Thank you for the great information.I was wondering, do all schizophrenic individuals hear voices or have hallucinations seeing things? what about in Paranoid schizophrenia? And what is your personal advice on how to care for and help a loved one with paranoid schizophrenia that is somewhat mild, but wont seek help or diagnosis for it....its been many years 15-20 years now. One more question, does old age increase the paranoia? Thanks for the help!

    • @nednednerb
      @nednednerb  8 лет назад

      +eilaf Abdel Rahim Talk about other things than the delusions... That's number 1. Mostly, talking about delusions and trying to disprove them only causes a refinement and insistence of the delusion. It probably doesn't need help or diagnosis at this point. Especially if it is intellectually rejected. They won't stand for it if they don't accept it. Old age means the paranoia in the brain is old age. Just like new tasks and new information can be difficult for those in old age, so can paranoia be more difficult to transform and change.
      Good luck. And no, not all symptoms are the same. I have musical hallicinations now sometimes, I have "conversations" in my head when I was a teenager. There are long stretches I have no hallucination. Paranoid schizophrenia often has voices, but not in all cases.

    Anyway I was wondering do your voices or beings that used to talk to you ever have any "pet names" for you that they call you?

      +Robin Gates I can't think of any names that stood out. I don't often have voices. +nednednerb I'll tell you the truth, the possibility is really high. I had a huge psychotic breakdown a few weeks ago - I really could not tell real from unreal, my mind was racing like a goddamn racing car, was hearing weird mechanic noises all the time and would be hypersensitive to light and sound - like, they would make me snap the fuck out. It got kinda better on some antidepressant, but I still feel like reality is slightly "off". I also had delusions of being dying or dead, or in a parallel universe, and it all led to panic attacks. Shit's intense.

    Hi, there! I hope you are doing awesome today. Question for you: In your book, you spoke a lot about finding/searching for meaning throughout the various stages of your mental health journey. I couldn't help but wonder, given your organic experience, would Viktor Frankl's logotherapy be useful in some capacity for treating schizophrenia? I have yet to find any solid evidence for its efficacy within this realm and would greatly appreciate your opinion.

    • @nednednerb
      @nednednerb  6 лет назад

      Sarah when I read Man's Search for Meaning, I was struck by how universal the need is to find meaning in one's life. So.. I think that logotherapy can help schizophrenics like it might help anyone with issues related to what is happening to their psychological being. However, many of the symptoms of SZ are exaggerated in the sense or belief that there is great meaning or significance being experienced. So, sometimes, it is a simpler meaningfulness rather than a gigantic mystery which could prove most helpful for those with SZ. I've often reflected that my world has become simpler as my delusions get chipped away over time. Logo-excess to logo-peace.... I hope that answer is helpful..

    • @sarah9900
      @sarah9900 6 лет назад

      It is very helpful, thank you for taking the time to respond so thoughtfully. I don't mean to bombard you but I do have two follow up questions if you don't mind. Please feel free to skip them if they are pointless to ponder or too personal. Do you think the incorporation of logotherapy at some point during your treatment would have expedited your arrival to wellness? If so, at which "point" during treatment do you suppose you would have been most receptive to it?

    • @nednednerb
      @nednednerb  6 лет назад

      Thanks for the questions. Essentially, I would prefer if ALL primary care givers understood... the importance of meaning. When I feel looked at like a mindless test subject that "probably hasn't been taking his meds as prescribed" such claims as I have heard have rarely if ever been true. When denied more humanity, I feel closer to a dissociated state. For all those doctors and nurses, however, who treated me like a human being with desire and intentions and perspective, THEN by their inclusion I felt reassured, restful, and like I'm actually receiving therapeutic intervention.
      I would always be receptive to the inclusion of the sense of and process of working with significant meaning, particularly from care practitioners. I know half the time I've been hospitalized, there was a crisis of meaning just as much as there was delusion. Pills of all sorts may conk me out and sedate me, but it was decisively my orientation to and conception of my experience, which, in my eyes, caused the turnaround in my being which was then assessed as "getting better."
      I should make a video regarding this subject...of Logotherapy and the search for meaning. Please go to my channel's about page and send me a message. I'd like to chat. Maybe you can send me a longer list of questions, or we can turn this thread of questions into a transcript for an "interview"... (If you can't find the message link, my channel name [at] gmail etc)

    Hey, a close friend of mine was recently diagnosed with catatonic schizophrenia, and watching this video brought to mind many similarities between your experiences. He's also quick witted, intelligent, and able to make connections between topics, but has had a psychotic episode where he says that he "chose to remain immobile, catatonic, without eating or responding, because he was in awe of Gd" - for nearly a week. He mentioned seeing signs, and said he didn't believe that they were hallucinations or delusions. He otherwise seems fine after having taken antipsychotics, but he's said that he doesn't believe that they were necessary or had anything to do with him no longer receiving messages. From all this it looks like he has not gained insight into his pychotic episodes, and I was wondering if you knew anything about how you gained insight yourself, or how I can be there for him in the best ways that I can to help him do so. He gets out of the hospital tomorrow, and I fear he will stop taking medication and fall further into delusions and hallucinations if he has another episode. Thank you so much for any advice you can give.

    • @nednednerb
      @nednednerb  8 лет назад

      +Joey Bukai hmm, that is sad to hear. He may take a while to "gain insight" but you can probably help and be there for him but being the usual friend you were before. Support the healthy traits and behaviours as you see them. If he gets on a story or track about the visions or experiences just change the subject when it's safe, and do not try to argue them away. That tends to reinforce and prime the delusional thinking. If you do say something about his experiences, maybe point out things like "religious and spiritual people are so to speak allowed to talk to god or ancestors or whoever. The reason they aren't schizophrenic is because they weren't at risk of dying" You can tell your friend you're worried about how he was frozen for a week. Wherever his soul might have gone, his body was close to perhaps dying, and you'd miss him. You don't need to deny the 'meaning' to try to get him to realize it was an internal experience, that schizophrenia is also real. Good luck.

    Do you have any kind of financial assistance to help with the medical cost or living expenses if it interferes with getting or keeping a job?
    Growing up, I lived with a parent with untreated schizophrenia, it was horrible and traumatizing on top of being in severe poverty because he couldn't keep a job. But he was scared the government was going to get him and never applied for any benefits that might have helped us. Now as an adult I am facing the likelihood of having a psychosis and am terrified. I don't want to go untreated and cause grief and pain to my family, but we just can't afford any long term medical care. I can see it starting in me the same way it did with him. Hi, I have a question regarding a friend mine who has Schizophrenia. When someone starts speaking about things that don't quite make sense or they've gotten the truth twisted a bit, is it worth me trying to explaining the truth to them to try and encourage them out of that idea or are they that fixated on it that they will not be convinced. It's hard to watch my friend go through this so young. I just want to keep supporting him but am unsure about whether i'm helping effectively or just making things worse. I agree with Gabriel Lee. Explaining truth in a way that is acceptable and respectful is needed. However, some delusions are mixed with truth or held very strongly and it will be more disruptive and give a schizophrenic more of a reason to hold on to the idea. In which case, it is better maybe to try changing the subject to something your friend isn't having delusions about.

    Same here. I always knew I was different but could never figure out how or why. That's why I started picking up and identifying patterns. I'm realizing now that it's been there all along I just wasn't aware that the way I thought and made connections was the thing that made me so different. I realize that I've been pretending my whole life. Trying to just be normal. AND I succeeded. At least the fitting in part but I still couldn't figure out how or why people can just go about their day seemingly just doing things that a person does. I realize now that those people just going about their day weren't thinking about the cars driving by and where they're going and they certainly weren't making up stories good and bad about those people's days all at once and unwillingly.
    What do I do with this knowledge? Where do I go next? Where can I look for answers? Where can I ask questions without people thinking i'm crazy before even hearing me out? When lost in delusions, how can I find out what is real and what is not?

      +Courtney Street don't get into a debate about the existence. Instead, just say it will be fine, it will be okay, and can you help her anyway. If it is a real person more caution and questioning may be recommendable. But if it is a delusion, not investigating is better. I am almost always in a state where my mind is racing and piecing together delusional thoughts, but I never really considered it as schizophrenia, more just a symptom of being a curious college student + a lot of anxiety. I am a very anxious and sometimes depressive person, but other than the racing/delusional thinking that sometimes takes over, I don't think I meet any of the other criteria for being schizophrenic. Any thoughts?

    • @nednednerb

      +ckent ckucklekek as a quick thought, there are the terms "schizoid" or "schizotypal" which refer to traits "like schizophrenia"... Without pronounced psychotic break or episodes, however, depression and anxiety with some paranoid, "schizoid" tendencies might indeed be a reasonable way to talk about some situations.

    In the past I would experience this feeling just before falling asleep, I would feel the pressing of hands on my body pulling me out of myself as I would hear a high pitched eeeeeeeeeeeee sound that got horrifyingly loud. My body would feel the oscillation of the sound wave until it seemed like my consciousness embodied the sound itself. As a sound wave I could raise or lower my frequency and make different buzzing sounds. This would happen nearly every night for about a month. Then I actively stopped dabbling in the occult and it all stopped. Does that sound like schizophrenia? I would also do the same thing you described like playing with words, I would pick apart sentences and obsess with all of the possible meanings and possible misinterpretations; I still do. The speaking pattern of seemingly jumping between unrelated topics was something I would do too.

    • @nednednerb
      @nednednerb  8 лет назад

      Near sleep experiences vary widely, but what you are describing could be included in "schizotypal" cognition.
      You might have some of the symptoms of schizophrenia but having the diagnosis criteria may be more specific. You may have to be affected in a significant manner.
      I recommend talking to a doctor you trust.

      There was a series of events. It is a lot to try to talk about in a single post. However, I will say that much of my social life was distressed. First, I noticed I had many differences to many others. I felt abnormal before any serious symptoms started. The serious symptoms came from trying to manage being different. Another thing had to do with being in a situation of being lured over a period and abused as a teen by a couple disgusting and dangerous adults. I ended up in the psych ward by my 18th birthday.

    • @nednednerb
      @nednednerb  7 лет назад

      To me, I call that being human within the actual course of history. Breaking that down a little: the actual course of history is for many people traumatic and "wounding." History is quite full of oppressions and attacks, directly on many by a dangerous few. Citizens and slaves, landowners and witches, neonazi kkk's and everyone else. There has literally been war after war for thousands of years. No peace here. No peace there.
      Keeping this in mind, being human is something of a trial, where we try to be "normal" but have to contend with the suspicion that the world is violently opposed to us. Indeed, something is opposed to us. Those neonazi kkk's and landowners (the old sense, I know many innocent people "own land" nowadays) are actively hating the rest of us and trying HARD to kill lots of us and raise disarray everywhere.
      In such a world, I don't know how to stay safe, and I was both abused by others, and I went "bat shit crazy." I was definitely hallucinating, delusional, obsessed, suicidal, and THAT was mental illness. It was about intense suffering.
      I never forgot the physical and psychological injuries. I never forgot the "world illness" or cultural psychosis, how the world was off >its rocker.
      That was different than mental illness, but it was here too.

Feeling like you are in a dream can happen to people who are artists or spiritual or religious. It just happens. Anxiety disorder may be your primary diagnosis. But you very well might have some symptoms of other conditions. That might be rarer overall, but surely possible, I think

    • @nednednerb
      @nednednerb  8 лет назад

      Criticism or negative thought, negative observations, commands. I think it is hard to know life in our world without at least knowing what criticism is, whether it is a strongly learned experience. I also think it is possible lived experience and social environments play a role. There is probably a reason there is more schizophrenia present in urban environments, while something sz seems to occur in all of the "worlds" we know of.

    is it normal that i think i became schizophrenic because of frustrations? my parent always scold me because i failed a whole semester on college and has been telling me again and again about timelines of a person's life such as. "When you reach 21 you should be at this point etc etc." i got depressed over it as if im the worst person on the whole world,
    i began talking to myself asking myself "What should i do" "Who am I" as well as telling myself story of my timeline of what i experienced since i was born. till i began to compare myself to others who are successful in attempt to get an idea of what i should do next but I became more depressed as other factors came to my realization such as prerequisites etc.
    but from time to time i feel a breeze on my chest as i had these solution to my problems ideas but in the end i end up thinking "Its too late" "I shouldve done this" and i noticed the procrastination has gotten stronger because of it.
    it happens again and again particularly when i wake up and before i sleep. its painful specially when i consult my parent she just end up telling me that she dont understand or its because im not doing what they are telling me, else they will blame something else like "Thats because you did "this" before etc etc." or even "Its because you inherited this attitude from your father" as my father left us and abandoned us and chosen his mistress. im the eldest son btw among all of his child
    the anxiety cripples me every time i imagine the person i should be now "perhaps the better me if only i did not fail". worst is i cant see my "successful" self anymore. i often delude as if i have someone beside me, a friend that understands me and comforts me preventing me from doing something bad but in the end, time waits for no one and when i realize that, i feel the pain again in my chest. and the cycle goes on again and again.
    i just hope i can still change and discover a strong motivation

      15-17 is average age of onset of intense psychosis, so at 13 you may be experiencing a variety of symptoms that are emerging, and you may have schizophrenia or it could develop.
      Some of the warning signs, besides the symptoms you describe, are withdrawal from social situations. The fact you feel no one understands you and you are having trouble communicating with your family and peers is a driver of withdrawal.
      Other warning signs include periods of confusion, big change in habits, irritability, change in appetite, sullen or moody affect, sudden outbursts, paranoia. Those are some that I experienced.
      I recommend asking your doctor about your symptoms. Or a peer or adult you trust. Try to recognize that indeed your paranoia is unrealistic and you should try to rationally discount your paranoia. Most people are neutral observers. Try to find friends you trust, and talk about things you're experiencing.
      Good luck little guy..

I must admit I get afraid especially because I have children that I need to protect and choose to stay away recently as to I'm very tired of him in and out of jail. Idk I'm just trying to comprehend. +latinachula20002000 he sounds like a dangerous person with poor self control and little conscience. Whatever delusions, hallucinations, and other schizophrenic symptoms he might have, there appears to be sociopathy or psychopath tendencies. In English, "schizophrenia" is related to "psychosis" which is a very different word and meaning, and behaviour which is patterned as violent and socially destructive is "psychopathic" or "sociopath"... Calling someone "psycho" is just slang and gets used for both schizophrenics and violent people (and a few others).... I hope things stay calm for him and he flares less and less. =)

    I'm interested if you would have in some way considered the term schizophrenia is actually an mix of accumulated naturally learnt/accepted behavior's which include some triggering diet preference like everyone else does preceive's uniquely; given differing experiences, which as a young adult are naturally acted out automatically- subconsciously. (Humans, being more often q'ed sheep-like to fit- in for $, support, love and pleasure that's much needed, (not so much pain, as we all get- depending on circumstantial status and personally preceived/ learnt response approach's of and to those personalities and circumstances, involved. Therefore, socially and or nutritionally a source that flusters and stresses people heart-wise (learnt ego shame factor, reward pain factor) infrequently, to near madness at times like any other would be when lock up for it and expected to do/think/act, as required to be let free /where group appreciation's required, hence rather driven to think differently .. and hence a clinical type of social bullying label for seeing/doing things differently even untimely from the so called normal society considering that in the past human history such silent bullying was and still is ripe? (for example: nosed down class status, slavery, Holocaust, color, or any other undesirable put difference from the top down) Hence a type of silent or silenced need in society to create wealth however ethically even profession right; its deemed, now. Publicly, this is a no, no thought today- much like not having slaves was no, no thought, before. I rarely check my emails so I have to leave this as a one way response, but I will look eventually - there is more than us here so please feel free to respond for others to see, if you like. Good Luck and Thank You, More People Need to Join You - though it be very personal; and takes a lot of guts on your part- this is powerful, what you did.

      +Belinda Rankin sorry find it hard to parse. What do you mean? I do not think about "the term schizophrenia" as a "mix of.. learnt... behaviours". I have intentions reactions thoughts experiences cognitive traits. Yes there are habits but only more than that at once.

    I'm very afraid but it is good to hear another person sharing a carbon copy version of mine..... especially the new age spiritual stuff. I know. I see it too. And it doesn't make sense to me either.

      I feel the least for the new age spiritual stuff. Try to come back down to reality. You will be less afraid.

      +Sawyer Fulks Stay strong, and seek help if at all possible is the best advice I can think of, even more so if its just starting out, talking about the weird new situations helped me allot. And I definitely agree with nednednerb on taking it easy with conclusions, again stay stron mate, wish you all the best
