Episode 83 - Gold Rich Ancient Channels

- The Northern California Motherlode region contains many gold rich ancient river channels that were mined hydraulically by the old timers. Some of those ancient river channels are still yielding gold for modern day prospectors. How did those gold rich ancient river channels get lifted to elevations that are now thousands of feet above sea level? Where did the gold in those ancient river channels come from? How did the old timers use the power of water to wash away mountainsides and extract gold from those uplifted ancient river channels? Why did all of this cause serious problems for the farmers and flatlanders in the Central Valley?
Understanding how the gold in a river got there can help a goldseeker to locate the areas that are most likely to contain rich deposits. In this video we visit a couple of hydraulic pits from which thousands of ounces of glittering gold were successfully extracted, and thousands more were washed out the discharge end of the old timers' sluiceboxes and into the waiting arms of Mother Yuba.
Right on, I didn’t know all that about that area. Thanks Tim 👌👊
The history and geology of the Motherlode is fascinating for us miners. Did they mine hydraulically up in Oregon too? Any pits you can go detecting in up there?
Excellent lesson and description of the California gold fields
Thanks Jared. Join us at the North Yuba Nugget Hunt on Saturday July 29th. Aloha
Hey Tim. Great info. You did great job explaining this 👍🇺🇸✅⚒
Thanks Todd. Can’t wait for this years dig. Our project will make it the best yet🇺🇸🤙⚒
Right on tim thanks for showing us around
Thanks Kris. All the quartz up there at Jackass Flats is quite a sight to see. Rivers bigger than the Mississippi full of gold and quartz is a real mindblower. Aloha
Great day out fam. Loads of great info. Keep on having fun getting that au and living the dream. Gold Squad Out!!!
Thanks Gold Squad. 3% for or the dream! Aloha
Thanks for sharing very good information to know, Great quartz there, Thanks for the adventure and education 😀
I love quartz. Especially when it’s got gold in it. Aloha.
Follow the Blue Lead. Great vid Tim.
Very interesting! Thank you for making this Video 🙏
Great detail in explaining 👍🏾🇺🇸
Thanks Matt. Picture what it was like for the first old timers scratching their heads and wondering how all those huge river rounded boulders got stuck up in the hillsides. Aloha
@@blueleadgoldproductions133 Yeah I bet they were pretty stumped on how they all got there. I’m just glad they didn’t have metal detectors back then or there wouldn’t be any gold left for any of us nowadays lol. Always enjoy your vids Tim 🤙🏾🇺🇸
Fun video. Thanks Tim.
Thanks Eric. Hope you can join us at next year's Nugget Hunt. Aloha
Great video! Very informative. Thanks for putting this together.
My pleasure. Thanks for watching. Aloha.
Excellent summary of hydraulic mining and how gold is found today in the American & Yuba, Tim. 👍⛏💰
We can all be thankful for the grotesque inefficiency of the old timers' sluice boxes. Geno texted a video of the freezing conditions he encountered on his last trip out on the North Yuba. It looked a bit brutal. However, it will take more than a little snow and ice to stop the mining machines of Team Old Farts. See you after the Spring Thaw. Aloha
Very interesting 🤔
Knowing where the gold comes from helps to focus the search. Aloha
Shall I call you professor Tim now, good lil history lesson. 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
Just don't call me late late for dinner. I've answered to a lot of names a whole lot worse than Professor. Aloha Dan-O
Good stuff !!!!!
It’s the pits man. LBPA rules the pits!
@@blueleadgoldproductions133 love the pits !!!!!
Wealth of knowledge you have Tim good one bro hope all is well and Happy Hunting my friend 👍😎🇦🇺
All good here mate. I’m home in Hawaii for the winter. Enjoying some surfing with my son today. Looks like you’ve been getting some nice bits lately. Yeehaw.!
Great Video Tim, its been a while! Nice to hear a bit of mining history! Thanks for ALL you do! - Aloha!
Geology, history and gold seeking. Gotta love them all. Aloha
LOVE THE EDUCATION TIM
It’s good to be edjumicated! Aloha
Good on ya Tim 👏
Good video Tim. Shout out to those smart lawyers who stopped hydraulic mining in the Sierra's.
Thanks Burt. I'm back in Hawaii now and trying to get back into shape for the North Shore surfing season. Got my first overhead wave of the winter this week. Unfortunately, a summer of Motherlode mining does little to keep you in shape for all the paddling required to surf the North Shore. Let's do a banker's hours surf at Leftovers sometime soon. Aloha
New subscriber looking forward to more
Thanks for subscribing. Consider this to be your personal invitation to join us and dig up some gold at the 2023 North Yuba Nugget Hunt. Stay tuned for more information. Aloha
Just subscribed sir. Looking forward to joining your adventures. Oh man a few more minutes into the video. You're doing it right. I'm into geology and Prospecting so the way you present the info is exactly what I been missing lol
Thanks for subscribing. Check out some of the other videos I've posted. However, if you don't like watching videos of some old guy, wandering around looking for gold in the incredible scenic beauty of the Motherlode, while making lots of smoke offerings to Mother Yuba, watch another channel. Glad to have you aboard. Aloha
A very informative video. I'll take a closer look at it on Google Maps. Thanks Tim, Aloha 🤠🇩🇪👍⚒🍻
Just look for the big white spots on Google earth when you look at the map of the north San Juan ridge. Notice how spring creek drains that big pit at North Columbia there was a sluice box that was eight feet wide and 6000 feet long in spring creek when that hydraulic mine was running. That operation literally dumped tons of tailings and gold into the south Yuba.
@@blueleadgoldproductions133 I checked it. Thanks for the information.
Those are big dimensions. Fascinating
The Sawyer decision is considered historically as America's first environmental protection act by legislature.
Not hard to see how the farmers and flatlanders quite literally got dumped on by the whole hydraulic mining situation. Can't really blame them for calling in the lawyers. See you at the next Nugget Hunt. It's going to be the best ever. Aloha
UDMan!
Thanks Paul. We had a great day on Steven's property this year. Angus says he doesn't want to miss the Nugget Hunt next year. Aloha
you been swinging a gold monster boss. ??? aloha boss.
I bought a used SDC last summer. I love that machine. It’s amazing how small the gold is that you can find with it. It also folds up and fits in an old man’s backpack. It’s a killer machine Aloha.
Oldest map actually showed an entire sea once occupied this valley seperated California from oregon by an ocean flowed all way to the ocean. ?
