make sure not to skip 2x14. It's not on every platform. I think only Amazon Prime kept it. There is something in the episode that was deemed cancellable ( really not, it's so stupid). It's a GREAT episode that should not be skipped
I think this is one of the more underrated episodes of the show. It 's just surrounded by other iconic episodes and gets a bit forgotten. "You humble me" is such a powerful closing. Insanely excited for next week though.
i;m a year late to the party, but i agree with all of you. also if you notice at first shirley wanted to destroy his movie for her own selfish christian reasons......but when she heard him praying she understood that he fcked up, and the only way to help him was to be demonized by everyone and destroy the movie. that brief look they exchange when she's done says more than any dialogue could, they had an understanding of what happened. and the way they hold hands at the end is just beautiful. they dont usually have a lot of meaningful interaction, but in this episode i love their interaction.
As someone who loves this episode cause I laugh at the funny jokes, but has no affiliation with organized religion and only recognized some scenes from biblical studies, you guys just made me appreciate it even more. I always knew it was meta, but I didn't realize HOW meta it was. Awesome.
I love that about Community. Even if I don't have a full grasp on topics they build an episode around, I just initially know that its deep as he'll and has layers built on layers... Almost as if Harmon was building Worlds within Worlds. You just know that even if you don't see it, you know the layers are there. And that makes you seek out information which inevitably leads you to learn a bunch of cool sh*t you otherwise wouldn't have. In fact, Community is where I learned about the concept of being meta. Such a great show. Especially seasons 2-3 and 5.
I gave in and became a Four-Sight member yesterday and binged the rest of the available Community reactions. This was a mistake. I think I may have suffered brain damaged due to lack of oxygen from laughing with the Crew so much.
@@barbaros99 haha I’ve done exactly the same, the zombie episode was just too tempting. Spoilt myself for the next few weeks but it was totally worth it
Im sorry but if that’s the hardest you’ve seen Eric laugh, you need to watch more blind wave content. 😉 There’s like a number of times he’s laughed so hard he has cried.
This kinda stuff is really another example of why Blind Wave is so good as a reaction group. Just the great mix of knowledge you guys have, you end up appreciating and catching so much.
4:56 Eric's fanboy energy when it comes to Abed is the best. I really love how much and how strongly you guys laughed with this episode. This one has so many great lines and performances executed from the actors. Too hilarious, one of my favorites.
Ohh I love how much of the religious stuff you caught, but in the end it gets twisted and Shirley dies for Abed. She is willing to be the one who is punished (blamed by everyone at school) for His pride (represented by a movie that is a self-described egotistical mess), and he is thus spared from his fate of having this Awful movie ruin his reputation as a filmmaker.
@@JITCompilation oh it's definitely both. She still Fulfills the narrative within the school that Abed and the movie "are" Jesus and the word of God, but she's also the only one following any of his actual teachings. Abed doesn't do a single selfless thing this episode until Shirley "shows him how" and then he finishes her movie. She's the only person (in this plotline of this episode) who makes a real sacrifice for everyone else's sins. So yes she is the Judas and the Pharisee in the school, but she's Jesus in the episode. That's why the singing shifts to saying "Shirley" in the end
I thought it was her being the Pharisee's still and still having Jesus/Abed the film flogged and crucified and killed, thus fulfilling what the plan was. Albeit the twist here is she did it because it's what Abed/Jesus wanted to happen rather than unintentionally playing into it.
This episode is one of those rare ones that shows how deep down, when it really counts, Pierce is a stand up dude. Everything about his character says he would be running away with everyone else but he knows the guys in a bad way and he sticks around even though it gets him scolded by Jeff.
One of my favourite episodes of the show, and I had no idea how many religious references I had missed before this reaction - I love the episode even more now!
the family sitcom story with Jeff and Britta as the parents and Pierce the rebelioius teenager was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO funny. The B plots in Community are just as good and clever as the A plots.
The commentary on this episode is particularly good! I've seen other reactions that really miss a lot of the nuance in this series. There are so many layers, and you guys have enough base knowledge to pick up on it!
I just like this episode because of the absurdist subversion of the character roles in both plots, and because Abed and Shirley have a very sweet underrated dynamic
Ever since I heard Eric mention his Catholic upbringing, I've been very curious about what insights he might have on this episode. It was really interesting! Also, Aaron's cackling at the vast difference between "God of Farts"'s view count and the attendance numbers of Shirley's church, along with his huge grin and "Poor Shirley..." seemed almost sinister (Although I'm positive it wasn't ).
aw man, such an underrated episode. Meta religious criticism and teenage rebellion by senior citizens (SHUT UP LEONARD) in a 30min sitcom. Only community, And ya, I love that it all comes back to the core of this series....just people learning from each other how to be better people
