I own The Cape on DVD. I oncecread a review that simply said, "No show has been more The Cape than The Cape." Complete nonsense that I fully understand. I believe the best is a combination of pillows and blankets. The floor and walls are pillows, but the roof is blankets. A roof made of pillows is too difficult.

I just watched this episode for the first time yesterday and as someone who watched some of Ken Burns' history documentaries on PBS growing up, it's an unparalleled masterpiece. This isn't just a mockumentary episode. It's a parody of Ken's _specific_ style of docu-filmmaking, even down to Keith David being the narrator. The fact that they made fun of the PBS pledge drives at the end makes it 10x more hilarious. Everything about this ep was a work of pure genius
This is definitely specifically referencing Ken Burns' The Civil War. Some of the music queues might even be borrowed or at least are written to be reminiscent of that score.
I completely forgot how much Aaron liked The Cape (I was also upset it was cancelled) and his reaction to the end bit was shocking, and absolutely beautiful lol
“Winger's critics suggest he merely improvised hot-button patriotic dogma in a Ferris Bueller-ian attempt to delay schoolwork. Winger decries the accusation as "A slanderous betrayal akin to 9/11." Pierce turned out to be an unstoppable juggleknob until he was overwhelmed by the _Changlorious Bastards._ Abed taking that All Tomato could've avoided all of this needles violence.
In terms of pure execution, this might be the best episode of the series. All the characters are doing wacky things while staying 100% true to their characters. Annie the nursing student runs a hospital. And it totally works that Britta would fancy herself a war zone photographer and be terrible at it. Even Shirley had plenty of stuff to do in this episode. And the documentary spoof it spot on. Plus, this episode had a lot of heart. I love how Jeff is willing to fuel all this nonsense but immediately stops when he learns his friends are upset. "Word got around that these two were now hurting each other's feelings..." It went too far, time to put a stop to this. So sweet.
the genesis of this episode was actually that they were so over-budget, that they were looking at a way to save money on this episode so figured a documentary that was mainly stills would be cheaper. In standard Dan Harmon procedure, the result is legendary and it still ended up being way more work than they were expecting.
Can confirm using "The All Tomato" in real life is extremely confusing for other people half the time but incredibly satisfying for yourself every time. It is legitimately one of my favorite lines from this show.
Although pillows have higher potential for blunt attacks, blankets are definitely more versatile and have a wider variety of uses. they are also a better material for constructing a fort as they can easily cover large areas - im on team blankets.
