"cheater, cheater..pumpkin eater..." roflmao.....i love that! Pentatonix are good at whatever they do for sure but I still love Disturbed's version even though I grew up with playing with my matchbox cars by the stereo to Simon and Garfunkel as my mom cleaned.
They did a great job with "Sound Of Silence". That doesn't surprise me. Pentatonix is the best harmonizing group currently going today. Every song they cover is always a fantastic rendition.
You've heard Scott's voice that low before, you just haven't realized it. In "Hallelujah" for example, when Avi has his solo verse,S cott slides over and take the base line (at least in live versions),
many, many thanks to Simon & Garfunkel, who wrote and recorded this classic 50 years ago ---- allowing Pentatonix, Disturbed and others to re-interpret this powerful song........
I would encourage putting text over the video to avoid copyright issues. Also, please listen to their music with headphones. There is so much in their production of their videos that you miss without headphones!! Thank you for taking the PTX journey. I hope we see more from you. I love that you and your mom are together doing this. It's beautiful to see!!
Pentatonix always delivers. Don't worry about pausing and rewinding; Pentaholics are used to it and people can always watch the original if they want to see it without interruptions. This is a reaction channel, after all. Even if you're familiar with their music, if you haven't also seen the videos then you should go through their catalog and react to them. As impressive as their voices are, their videos are also inspired works of art as well. Imagine (John Lennon), Mary Did You Know, The Wizard of Ahhs (with Toddy Hall), their original song Sing... lots to choose from and all are worth the time.
I'm a pentaholic and I certainly don't mind the pause and rewind but I don't want you doing it too much! Yes it's a reaction video but I'd rather see how you are reacting to it for the first time then having you pause it every 2 seconds to make unnecessary comments! This reaction was perfect though I don't believe your mom only listened to 5 seconds that morning! She watched the whole thing...how could she not once she started it?
I love these guys, their harmonies are pleasing. Ever been on a fishing boat far out off shore in deep water, if the conditions are right you'll hear a deafening silence that you'll not experience anywhere else. 😇
Scott Hoying, 1st lead, Always does the bass lines when the bass is singing dude has a 6 octave range. In this video Matt Sallee, 3rd vocalist, is usually bass but you can see Scott covering that bassline. These are 5 world class vocalists creating a wall of sound. Great way to put it!!! Just my theory...👽👽👽👽👽Nah no worries about pausing, we know! Great reaction u2!
If you really want to be blown away, listen to them sing The prayer, Amazing Grace and Mary did you know. I can just cry. I love both if you and your insightful reactions
This is a Pentatonix review. To be pimping other artists in the comments area of a reaction is just wrong. If you have a comment regarding their Pentatonix reaction we would probably love to hear it. But please stop pimping other artists.
You have heard Scott sing that low. In “Hallelujah”, he takes over the bass line when Avi sings the second verse. If you listen again, and have tuned your ear to each singer’s voice, you can notice the barely perceptible switch from Avi to Scott on the bass right before Avi starts lead on his verse.
I am glad that you rounded out the "Sound of Silence" set with PTX. It puts a totally different spin on it than the other two versions. It never fails to give me chills. As always... Thank you ladies ❤☮🙏
One of the best acapella groups! Gotta check out Home Free as well! They did a cover of John Denver’s “Take Me Home Country Roads” and The Eagles’ “Seven Bridges Road” that give me chills every time I listen to them! They also performed “Go Sit High On That Mountain” and “Man Of Constant Sorrow”! 🤟🤟🤟
Such a great choice. Love this song. You two are doing a great job. You remind me of my wife of 46 years & her mom. Close just like I believe you guys are. My wife being Hawaiian, one time had beautiful long hair like you guys. Keep up the great music and bless you both.
The new guy with the soulful voice is Matt. Avi left in 2017 and helped choose his replacement. I miss Avi, but I am delighted with Matt. You have heard Scott sing low before, but didn't notice. For example, in Hallelujah, while Avi is singing his solo, you still bass. That's Scott, who is a baritone with a great range.
Yes...I've heard that explanation before and it rings true. But we all know that PTX always tries to instil hope, love and joy in most of their videos.
Acapella, my favorite genre and this is my favorite group in that genre, unless I am listening to Home Free, or, unless I am listening to Voctave. Would love to see the two of you react to Home Free, "Man of Constant Sorrow", or Voctave singing "Disney Princess Medley."
So glad you chose Pentatonix! I just love their version of" The Little Drummer Boy" which I always play at Christmas and I loved Sounds of Silence too. Their harmonies are amazing.
What makes Kirstins voice so unique besides her range and her belting capacity and twang is the speed of her vibrato. Nobody else I no has such a fast oscillating vibrato! It pierced through!

Peter hollens and Tim Faust are very talented individuals no question. My only statement and sediment is that this is a Pentatonix reaction that you're making a comment on I see nothing about Pentatonix in your comment. That's what I'm talking about.
@@mschack63 " It's also a 'human voice only' masterpiece" - meaning both this and the the Misty Mountains song are masterpieces. Scott always takes over the bass line when the bass singer (Avi or Matt) is singing a lead section. If you watch the live performance of Hallelujah from their 1st Christmas Special, you can actually see when Scott takes over the bass just as Avi starts the second verse. You can watch that at ruclips.net/video/haFHrfmfHbc/видео.html
Yes, Scott has a fantastic range. If you've listened to their Halleluiah, he sings the deep bass line during Avi's solo. A lot of people don't catch that...
I love me some PTX...and this is a good one. My favorite Things is one of my favorite Christmas tunes...You should also try Home Free, Man of Constant Sorrow is a good introduction to them...but they have a LOT of genres they cover.
I too would encourage you to always listen to PTX with headphones or you truly can miss so much. Also, I certainly don't know or understand sound systems but to me, the sound seemed rather muffled throughout most of the song but also seemed to echo at other times, basically not the crisp, clear sound one would hope for. Thanks for the reaction and I look forward to more in.the future!
Scott has such a versatile range. He recently released an original solo called Mars, which is about his fiancée Mark, who also appears in the video. Just beautiful.
I really enjoy watching your reactions...my daughter and I have come from very similar perspectives, and it warms my heart to watch the two of you discover and share your thoughts about the same piece of music. I also happen to agree 100% Agree with Brad Southers' comment about jumping to the Pentatonix Videos as they cover John Lennon's "Imagine", and perform The Wizard of Ahhhs (with Toddy Hall), Mary Did You Know, Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone, and their Grammy Award Winning Video, The Daft Punk Medley. They should be included on your journey if you haven't seen them yet. (Hint: Don't peek at other reaction thumbnails to "Imagine" if you want the full effect!) Thank you!
Actually it’s not PTX blocking reactions, it’s Sony. As far as Scott’s voice, he’s actually a baritone. I suppose it’s because they sing so much pop music that we most often hear him in his higher range. And btw, it’s Scott who covers the bass line whenever the bass is singing lead. I just found you two last week and am enjoying your channel very much.
Pentatonix is a great group! If you enjoy acapella groups, I can't, believe that you haven't reacted to "Home Free". One of the best groups in the business. There beat boxer, Adam will blow you away. They have done over 100 covers and most are better than the originals. Just a few, "When a Man Loves a Woman", "Ring of Fire", and especially Boys to Men cover, "End of the Road". And many, many more.
Important note: it's Pentatonix' label that blocks videos for copyright. Pentatonix themselves love that people react to their music, but ultimately it's not up to them. 🙂
To me ptx is on a different level than any other acapella group. They're by far the most awarded with 3 grammys and numerous other awards and most popular. They literally brought acapella back to mainstream and every other acapella group owes them for that. Avi goes much lower than Matt but I think Matt has greater range. Tho not the range of mitch! By the way love the moms necklace. Are you native?
I agree about them being the reason a lot of the other groups can exist now but I feel that they have lost a bit of their creativity over time and this not a knock on their ability to flat out sing just that part of what made them exciting at the start was their absolute creativity. I think Home Free are being more creative now and possibly this makes them more interesting?
@@mnewm21 lol I couldn't disagree more. I was never into home free because to me thry lacked creativity. They don't have a female Iike so many acapella groups it's like a good Ole boys network and to me they're too country. AND they don't have mitch who I think has the most amazing different voice of anyone I've ever heard since Michael jackson. But I always hated country tho i love older country like Johnny Cash. I kinda blame my parents there where country wasn't allowed in the house. Literally I remember my dad tossing the radio out the window when randy Travis came on. Lol as for ptx I think it's less their less creative and it's more ppl have gotten used to their being amazing and the trap is always having to one up yourself which can be hard. I think tho they sing as good as they ever did tho I do admit I kinda wish they'd move a little away from Christmas stuff. I know it's their original draw but they can do more now. I miss avi too tho Matt has greater range i think. But they're as popular as ever and their new stuff racks up the views more than anyone. I'd just like to see an album come out not christmas and more original stuff I will give you that. But I still think they're as good as ever. They just need to avoid that trap of getting stale as so many long time bands do. The music business isn't kind to longevity! Last years evergreen was inspired I think. I have yet to really listen to the newest stuff yet however except a few songs due to medical stuff keeping me too busy. But I respect your opinion even if I disagree. Lol
Peter Hollens and Tim Faust do a really good version of the song. Peter Hollens was on an early season of the Sing Off and he was one of the first major musical youtubers. He mainly does large productions with hundreds of voices. In many cases *all his own.* Tim Faust is the bass for the group Home Free who won the Sing Off the season after Pentatonix did.
You actually have heard Scott sing that low since you love Hallelujah. When Avi sings his solo, the bass continues because Scott is singing it, they just don't show him doing it. You can see him do it in this one, it looks like he's humming when Matt sings, that is him doing the bass line. Check out one of the live versions of Hallelujah, and you can really catch it. His range is ridiculous. He can sing pretty darn high, too. They all have unusually huge ranges, but they are Pentatonix, so...yep.
Scott's lower register is underrated... He takes over the bass when the bass singer is singing, like when Avi was singing the second verse of Halleluiah. Scott was doing the bass parts while Avi was singing.
If you like this genre, you would love a group called Home Free. You might start with "When a Man Loves a Woman" or "Man of Constant Sorrow." Thanks so much for your reaction videos.
Scott has such a broad range. He covers bass when the bass is singing. We do not mind pausing with commentary. Do what you need to get your reactions out. I know you are very familiar with PTX so please react to anything they do. Have you heard their God Only Knows. Subscribed.
I would prefer the pausing so you can discuss/react to what you have just heard as it happened. Some reactors talk over the music and you can't hear what they have said. When you do pause, always skip back 5 seconds (right arrow) before starting again that way you don't miss anything. The Pentaholics among us have heard the song so many times!
Ladies - may I also respectfully suggest a listen to another of the top acapella groups - Voiceplay. They have covered some iconic songs (such as Aerosmith's 'Dream On') - and their bass, Geoff Castellucci also has some amazing solo work such as the recently released cover of 'Ghost Riders In The Sky' - you will be amazed how low he can go!
n the cover of "Hallelujah", Scott takes the bass lines when Avi sings the second verse. He shows his upper range in the Christmas song, "Thank You", which he also wrote with his partner. The whole group of Pentatonix is a gift we are so fortunate to have been given...straight from the gods! If you would like to hear "range", then may I suggest reacting to the greatest vocalist on the planet, Dimash Kudaibergen", a now 28-year-old singer from Kazakhstan, with his performance of "Love is Like a Dream" or "Adagio", or "Ogni Pietra (w/Igor Krutoy, "Olimpico"). Using headphones and captions is recommended. I think you'll also get a huge jump is subs and suggestions for further performances from his fans (his "Dears").
I have heard this song since it came out "way back when". It always felt "prophetic" to me, if you know what I mean. Many songs from back then did, especially Moody Blues, and ....man, so many! But, the words, "take my arms that I might reach you" just hit me with a new meaning: we have lost touch with each other....literally. Friends used to hold hands, hug, walk arm and arm, kiss in greetings, etc. Now, everything has been so sexualized that people are fearful or, it feels awkward, or is looked on with disgust, etc. We humans are social creatures, but we "speak without talking" into our text messages, and "hear without listening" again with texts. Cancel culture has told us what we are allowed to say (or not) on Social Media, so we never hear other voices, nor listen to our elders pass on their stories. So much is being lost to the "gods of the neon lights we've made". I weep for my grandchildren.
The new guy is named Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee', emphasis on the second syllable). Matt is now the youngest member of Pentatonix, two years younger than Mitch, and I'm told that bass voices reach their full potential later than higher voices. I don't know that that's true, but I think probably it is because of something about Matt that I've observed. The earliest video of Pentatonix doing a live performance of "Hallelujah" that I found after Matt joined the group disappointed me, because Scott sang both the first and second verses; Matt didn't solo at all. I couldn't figure out why they were holding him back; I knew he had the range for it, so why not let him sing? Then I heard a later live performance of "Hallelujah," and I understood. This time Matt *did* sing the second verse, but the arrangement was totally new, one that I'd never heard before. This means that Avi's arrangement was written specifically for Avi, with his voice in mind, and Matt's was written specifically for Matt. Pentatonix didn't want Matt to have a hand-me-down arrangement. They asked him to wait until they could work with him to come up with an arrangement just for him. So far, so good. But then on November 20, 2022, I attended my first live Pentatonix concert, in Denver, and I was surprised again. When they sang "Hallelujah" early in the evening, the second verse had a completely *new* arrangement, one that apparently displayed Matt's full range. His lowest note sounded to me as low as anything I ever heard from Avi - true basso profundo, blowing-out-speakers low - and his highest note was well into the tenor range, *higher* than anything I ever heard from Avi. I don't have a trained ear so I could be wrong, but I'd actually be willing to bet money that I'm right: I think Matt currently has a range that includes Avi's entire range and goes beyond. And I suspect that his voice will continue to develop and improve for at least another year or two. Matt's voice has always reminded me of chocolate, and curling up with a warm, soft blanket and a purring cat, and he has such a delightful smile. But on top of all that, at this point Matt is a spectacular bass, and still improving. I think we're *very* lucky Pentatonix found him.
I promised to subscribe if you did this, so here it is. SUBBED!! This is easily the best cover version of Sound of Silence out there. Kirsty is amazing, and her backing vocals are unbelievable. I swear Kevin is a one-man voice band. LOL. Can't wait for more PTX, especially with Christmas approaching. Now I'm off to watch your seekers vid. Cheers from Aus. 😎
Scott is nominally a baritone but has a huge range. He'll sing the bass line when the bass is singing a lead part. If you pay attention on Hallelujah while Avi is singing a lead line Scott is taking the bass part. I'm always impressed with their attention to detail in the production of their videos.
You can haze the image (think bathroom window). Also if you wear headphones, we the viewers won't get the echos and distortion caused by the recording being heard 'secondhand'.
Nice start, now go and React to their “Mary Did You Know?” Now My favorite Christmas Song. Used to be “The Christmas Song” (Chestnuts Roastingon an Open Fire”……. SanJoséBob
I think all 3 versions are great but if I had to pick one I’m still going with the original, I just think it has realness and emotion that can’t be replicated as opposed to just a ‘vocal performance’ which is how I see the other 2. Cue the disagreements from the other subscribers 🤣🤣
THIS IS WHY PTX IS THE BEST A CAPELLA GROUP IN THE WORLD🌎.

Lol
Suggestion: Banarama - The Sound of Silence. "Amazing cover version" 🙂
Peter Hollens and Tim Faust do a really good version of the song. Peter Hollens was on an early season of the Sing Off and he was one of the first major musical youtubers. He mainly does large productions with hundreds of voices. In many cases *all his own.* Tim Faust is the bass for the group Home Free who won the Sing Off the season after Pentatonix did.
agreed! Peter's version is another great comparison
Scott has a wide range when singing.
Please react to “Beginners Guide to Pentatonix” you will learn all about the group.
Very informative 👍👍
Such a powerful and clean delivery from all of them to this gem of a song!
Thank you for that explanation!
Scott's lower register is underrated... He takes over the bass when the bass singer is singing, like when Avi was singing the second verse of Halleluiah. Scott was doing the bass parts while Avi was singing.
You both have great taste in music. Keep up the good content!
If you like this genre, you would love a group called Home Free. You might start with "When a Man Loves a Woman" or "Man of Constant Sorrow." Thanks so much for your reaction videos.
Thank you Janet! 😃
Home Free has amazing harmonies
To really appreciate Pentatonix I need headphones.
Scott. Series the bass when Avi or now Matt takes lead. His range is crazy.
Now you need to hear Geoff Castellucci’s solo cover of this. That is, if you consider 4-5 Geoffs a solo.
Love your reactions 😃👍🏻 Please listen and react to Crazy by Homefree 😊
They are the standard bearers for harmony. There are non better
So many amazing Christmas songs to choose from!
Scott is nominally a baritone but has a huge range. He'll sing the bass line when the bass is singing a lead part. If you pay attention on Hallelujah while Avi is singing a lead line Scott is taking the bass part. I'm always impressed with their attention to detail in the production of their videos.
Sound of Silence...
Disturbed
Conan O'Brien Show
Mind-blowing 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Scott did some bass in the hallelujah song
Welcome to PTX Land! 👍 Please react to Home Free, another 5-person genius acapella group. You will be glad you did. :)
Please react to David Phelps singing
No More Night
O Holy Night
End Of The Beginning
You will be amazed!!!!
Recommend headphones for all PTX music.
Probably my favorite PTX song with Matt instead of Avi. But the real highlight is the hole in the wall... get it highlight, i crack me up!
You can haze the image (think bathroom window). Also if you wear headphones, we the viewers won't get the echos and distortion caused by the recording being heard 'secondhand'.
,❤️🌺💥
Scott sings bass when the bass singer (Matt or Avi) is singing.
Nice start, now go and React to their “Mary Did You Know?” Now My favorite Christmas Song. Used to be “The Christmas Song” (Chestnuts Roastingon an Open Fire”……. SanJoséBob
No one will ever do this song more justice than Simon & Garfnkel.
yes PTX is AWESOME ---- BUT HOME FREE IS GREAT! TRY MAN OF Constant Sorrow, TIM"s BASS WILL MAKE YOU GO HOLY BLANK lol
I think all 3 versions are great but if I had to pick one I’m still going with the original, I just think it has realness and emotion that can’t be replicated as opposed to just a ‘vocal performance’ which is how I see the other 2. Cue the disagreements from the other subscribers 🤣🤣
I understand what you’re saying! I love all 3 but would listen to the original if I had to choose.
You get no disagreement from me. While the other 2 versions were good, Simon & Garfunkel's original still remains my favorite.
Pentatonix and Disturbed Versions Are Good, But Dark! Simon and Garfunkel's Version Is Simply One of The Best Songs Ever Performed By Anyone!!!!!
