My father taught us to eat union grass when we went camping (survival style)
That is the staple food for baboons. I always sat on the lawn, back home, picking and eating onion grass. I now now that I was the weird kid in the neighbourhood.

They were starting to come out with battery start push mowers when i was working at a mower shop in orange few years back, silly idea to not have a back up pull start especially when you run into issues with starters not working or battery problems, looking forward to see how this big project turns out

How do you know when you're from a country town? When you say you "went down town".
Lol. I've lived and couple of cities, currently am living in a city and it's still going down town to me, even the state capitals; but, I'm a bit allergic to big cities... and shopping. I'd move to a small country town or way out bush in a heartbeat though, if possible.

Guess this was a bit of motivation to get out and deweed my lawn and garden. Winter and dogs haven't been nice to the side of the houses Kikuyu but you're giving me hope for spring because it grows and spreads so quick. Thanks mate.

The amount of water you need as well as the bore would recommend getting the dam dug out as bit as you can and getting another one dug in the paddock with the creek if you can, you will use so much more that you expect on a place that size
Now you've got me wondering at the cost of windmills these days (into a dam or tank, or both). We had a few spread around the farm for livestock on the family farm. It was never much fun pulling them, to repair rusted out pipes, but the new poly-pipe bores I've worked with since seemed easy in comparison to what I watched as a kid with the old gal-piped ones.
I really enjoy watching your videos,and love your new property.Can't wait to see the finished product.I moved from QLD back my home state of NSW,the Riverina area to be exact.I've got so much work ahead of me to tidy up the whole property.Gardens are full of weeds,and the lawn needs the weeds sprayed.I'm a glutton for punishment,but any excuse to get outside.

haha there is so much going wrong. This is how my Saturdays often go. Start something, something doesn't work out, so try fix it, then find another problem, and another one until its the afternoon and I haven't done anything. I feel your pain haha

control onion grass by repetitive low mowing, depletes stored sugars in bulb, kikuyu will be able to withstand/regenerate. Up the mowing height when onion grass under control
Cam from Compass Greenkeeping here, Metsulfuron is a selective herbicide that will kill all onion weed in warm season grasses.
Only issue is that it’s not registered for kikuyu

😂 bro this reminds me of myself a few years ago.
I moved from a 700 square block to a few acres of manicured and established gardens and honestly, I have to pay a Gardner to take care of most of it these days so I can work.
Otherwise it would be a full time job.
The only thing I use a push mower for is for the putting greens! 😂

Maybe also install a petroleum station down the back for all the fuel you’ll need also!

Cam from Compass Greenkeeping here, use Fusilade Forte herbicide to kill kikuyu in garden beds, it does not kill fruit trees or flowers, only grass.
Good stuff isn’t it. We used to use it a bit on the course as well!

This weekend I scalped my ky and usually do just before spring is there a reason why you don’t ? Maybe many a cold morning to go in orange? Be interesting to see what difference the strains of grass compost like you’ve got the room potential compost areas ?

I once lived in a place with a thick kikuyu lawn, a corrugated car shed and compost heap of the North side or it laying on a couple of more sheets of corrugated iron. That pile got so hot it would smoke. I often worried it would catch alight and watered it down often during Summer. The compost seemed great in the veggie garden when broken down. Maybe just the perfect place for it, but the place was a rental and we finally moved. It was tough leaving the the lawn and garden, but next place was a new adventure and nice couch, lol.

Not sure what damage you did with your lense but a uv filter can often save damaging the lense or act as a sacrificial layer.
Luckily it wasn’t the glass. Was the electronic components inside. I do us a ND filter actually, too scary having the glass exposed on the front.

Love the property Ben but all those leaves 🍁 would do my head in Lol 😂, I’d be out every day with my blower vac blowing them off my front lawn, lucky we got rid of the tree on our footpath that used to drop leaves and I’d be out there every day picking them up, my OCD can’t handle Leaves on my lawn, how long does the battery last in a mower like that, it’s crazy that they don’t have a pull start for when the battery loses it’s charge, we looked at a mower like that before getting my new one and declined because of that reason, I want to mow when I want to, not having to wait till the battery charges IF YOU FORGET TO PUT IT BACK ON CHARGE THAT IS LOL 😂, which I probably would. For onion weed/grass...I've always had success with a Syringe of Glyphosate down through the guts of the weed and into the bulb (s) below.....and mowing taller to crowd it out helps heaps 🙌

Sure have. All of it won’t be manicured. But going to have to really decide I guess exactly where I want to define the line haha
