Gday Dan, Top video. Seen a bunch of videos out there on here on how to “care for Kikuyu”, and they all seem to have an ice cubes chance in hell compared to yours, with no where near as many quality puns. You are the only one that actually gets in the trenches and gets his hands dirty. In March I moved into my first home that my wife and I built. When planning the garden we were advised to install Kikuyu due to having 2 dogs. Since then I have done well to look after it. But as of late, and its first Aussie summer (warm weather), its really struggling. I was hoping you may be able to give me some tips on it. I have used seasol liquid spray with the hose, mowed real low, air rated, put munns 2 in 1 seeds in and Richgro’s sulphate of ammonia (not all at once, over time). I water 6:30 am and when the suns just going down. What can I do to have a beautiful Kikuyu lawn, ready for Christmas when the fam bam come over for the first Xmas at my house? I live in the western suburbs of Adelaide if this helps. Thanks mate. Adam

What an absolute legend mate! Here in Adelaide, just got me home and lawn riddled with burr medic ( spikey ball Weed ) hard pack soil that's not nutritional and full of patches and thatch... So hoping that a Reno will help! Do you remember how much to rent the corer?
@@thegreenandgoldlife1464 thanks heaps! Wow that's a fair penny! I think I'll stick to manual coring 😅💪 add that to manual de thatching and no need for a gym membership 😅😅😅😅😅😅 keep up the good content!
Extremely informative video. Probably the best on RUclips that focuses on Kikuyu. You made it look so easy, but I reckon there was a bit of blood, sweat and tears that’s gone into this video. Great to see someone in SA starting a lawn care channel. Keep up the great work!!
What would you suggest for hard clay mate, I'm using seasol super wetter and liquid compost also to try and soften it. When I say hard I mean Jack Hammer hard, totally hydroponic right now. I might do the scalp thing and get it aerated also. Great vid.
Cheers Tony. Yeah mate if you have Kikuyu or Couch take it back to dirt. It will look terrible for a bit but will love ya for it. Core aerate is the right move for you but put the sprinklers on the nite before or a fwe mornings as well if its that hard. This will help the coring machine. Next I would say use some washed sand to topdress DO NOT use brickies sand. Does not sound like you need loam. Would also consider adding gypsum to the back yard as well to help bust up the clay. Have a look at my gypsum vid. Keep going with your other soil amendment applications. Thay will help. If you have any more Q hit me up in the emails. Cheers Dan
Great information mate. Got a question for you. Do you reckon Winter is a good time to lay down turf here in Victoria? My landscaper said it is fine but just wanted to get a second opinion. Planning to lay down kikuyu.
G'day Ali. It should not hurt it mate. It won't be actively growing and won't root down till spring time. You might want to stay off it as much as you can until it's rooted down. Say October or there abouts. Personally, I would wait, but it's not going to hurt it. 👍

G'day great video with valuable info. Couple things is it ok to put down fertilizer straight after the scarifying? and you did use sand to top dress is that top dress soil or just sand? thanks mate

Hey mate, love the RUclips channel. Looking for some advice. Doing a bit of lawn Reno this year on my kikuyu. Scalping, scarifying and top dressing. Lawns about 2 years old and during the warmer months she’s nice and thick but during winter a few shady spots dies pretty bad. Is there any sort of grass you recommend to lay in the shady spots that would blend it well with the kikuyu? If that’s even a good idea 😂 Really don’t wanna be ripping it all out and starting again.
