- Here's 10 simple, beginner friendly, pretty pole dance moves. I've also sprinkled in some tips to help you learn each move.
You might find this video helpful if you are looking to learn more simple spins or need some ideas for moves to add to your pole dance choreography.
These moves rely on hand grip so I recommend using dry hands or cleaning the pole regularly as you may slip a lot like I did :D

Pole dancing is super fun but there are also risks involved you should be aware of before starting. These videos are advice only and are not intended to replace in-person professional classes. Please warm up before engaging in pole dancing to prevent injury! I am not a professional pole dance teacher. I recommend attending in-person classes before trying any moves on your own, especially when learning upside down tricks where a spotter is essential! If you have a pole at home, please make sure it is set up properly and is from a reputable supplier. There is always an element of risk when pole dancing and by following these videos you may be placing yourself at risk of injury. Please be careful and only do moves within your skill level.
Happy pole dancing :)

As a poler, I sometimes forget how elegant the more simple moves can be. Thank you for the reminder and this wonderful video! Can't wait to try them.
I am SO with you on this! I recently came to the revelation that I most enjoy making simple moves beautiful rather than feeling pressure to learn the next big trick. It surprises me how tricky going back to basic moves can be!
Yay! I hope you like them ☺
Same! We have a pole class where you can only use basic moves, no matter wat your level is. And it also always suprise me how many basic moves exist and how many good combos you can make with them
POLER 💀
Yes!!!!😊😊😊😊
ive just started pole dancing the last few months and i wanted to let other begginners know that there is a huge difference between pole dancing with a static pole and pole dancing with a spinning pole. the manuvers, tricks, moves and everything is completely different depending on if your pole spins or is not spinning. this js something my teachers never mentioned, and i found to be confusing when looking up new moves online. i recommend starting off on one or the other, and not trying to learn both static and spinning at the same time. otherwise it will be a lot more difficcult to learn how to move. i have a static pole (it does not spin) and this channel has a spinning pole. do not confuse the two. learn one first and then try the other. make sure your istructer is using the same pole as you.
Most poles has screws that can be removed and replaced to make it spinning or not spinning. At least mine does
People are really proud of this lol😂😂😂
Thanks for making that critical distinction, I started pole a few months ago, having a strong hoop background. Since I was accustomed to a secure hand grip, I struggled with static spins not knowing to release slowly to make the rotations--my wrists ached constantly. Conversely, I loved spinning pole and it helped me understand the body awareness and strength recruitment to learn static spins.
I’m guessing you can’t do it🤣🤣🤣
@@wintermatherne2524 Don't want to, plus I am a man. Just don't see the wifely appeal to a woman doing this, but then again, I am not married to a stripper or woman imitating one under the guise of exercise? I would rather my woman do traditional cardio, yoga, light weight lifting, etc...I love her body, and her confidence. To each their own, I was pointing out my shock that women (not all, obviously) are proud of having stripper talent. When I was single, I had no respect for strippers just saw them as not wife material and went because that was what we did. Did not want it in my home...but, I'm just a guy. You can be and dance sexy, if you want, but why like a stripper? My wife has my last name, car, doesn't have to work if she doesn't want to (she does), access to my bank account, but all from being a lady. That is why I married her or even looked at any woman when I was ready to (it is rare). Hmm.
Just found your channel and I want to say that your explanations, editing, lighting, EVERYTHING is so incredible! Love from a grateful pole baby
Thank you darling pole baby! 😆These words mean so much to me.
Funny you mention the lighting, I find it the hardest thing to edit cuz the light is only coming from behind and is always changing 😅Thank you for saying that anyways 😂

Just purchased my new xpole. Cannot wait to start again
I just bought a pole yesterday, I can’t wait to try it out
Yayyyy!! So exciting! What kind did you get?
This video is beautiful, the editing is great, and these moves are sweet! I'm very jealous of your 40mm pole because my 45mm feels impossible to grip some days :P
NAW tank u tank u, you are sweet 🥰
You will have the best grip from training on a thick pole 😉
thats exactly what i was thinking right now while trying
Same, my legs don’t grip, I can climb and hold my body up easily with my arms but haven’t sorted out the legs yet
@@Kenzingo Once your legs get better at gripping or if you use grip, it will save your arms from tiring out a lot! I know I use this hack so I can do combos without my arms falling off!
I'm curious, do you do other training to have such strong arms? 💪
These pole dancing techniques seem really amazing. 😊 I am going to learn pole dancing this year.
Great video! Showing the move on both sides and the slow motion effect was really helpful.💯
Aww thank you! I'm sorry, I've been slack doing both sides for recent tricks videos! I can mirror it for you guys which might be helpful :D
you are amazing at describing the key components of every move!! thank you so much
@Jazzy J Respecting your body is decorating it to the extent of your comfort. Just started pole and am struggling so hard with that back leg hook! You make it look so graceful lol I know.if I keep practicing ill get it eventually
Yay! Welcome to the world of pole dance 👯♀️!!!
You are not alone my friend! Are you talking about the first move? I could not grip with my legs for the life of me too when I first started.
Have you tried using grip? It took me a while to figure out that either putting grip (like shaving gel) on the back of my legs or getting my legs slightly sweaty during warm up helped me stick so much better to do any leg based moves.
That's the spirit! I have no doubt you'll get it.
Ugh I struggle with some leg hooks too! I honestly think my problem is my skin isn't conditioned to it enough yet because it huuuuuurts 😭 just been chipping away at it regularly. Thanks for the shaving cream tip Jem definitely gonna give it a go
@@prettyandsick 100% 🙌🏼 it’s a real struggle. My skin is still soooo not grippy as when I started but because my nerves are less sensitive and I think my back leg gripping muscles have gotten stronger, it is much easier now. Hang in there 😉
Shaving gel will help ease you into it by helping the non grippy skin issue 😃
I mean dude I am putting all my hope and faith into this video cuz I just started pole dancing 3days ago and only know two moves but I also don't have the best confidence in my body, well actually I have good confidence in my body I don't mind showing it off either it's just I'm struggling with holding or even pulling myself up
Hi Eliza, some of these moves are trickier than others! You can start with some other beginner grips like front hook if you like! I have some other videos too which are more simple pole moves to start with :) ruclips.net/video/bJjtX7ATy3Y/видео.html
IK beginner and intermediate moves :D I've only been dancing for 5 months and I'm proud of my self.

Hi Alondra,
I use Xpole! It's an amazing brand. So reliable and safe when installed properly!
I have the link to the exact pole I have in the description box :)
Are you from Australia? I found the most similar one available in the US too from Xpole.
Question: I want to be more elegant and soft the way you do it. Is there any type of dance and moves I can practice at home off the pole to get met there that you recommend. I go to pole dancing classes & have a limited time with it
Absolutely!! I learnt some contemporary dance on RUclips with Dance with Miss Auti. This really helped get to know my body because at first, I felt very awkward!
I love her videos so much, they are very beginner friendly.
Let me know if you try her out 😍
I also forgot Lyrical and Ballet are great styles too for elegant and soft dancing 😌
Hello Jen ! New study here , do you also do stretching videos for flexibility ? Or does that naturally happen as your experience progresses?
Hi😅
Amazing video! Very helpful with being graceful. Side note, I also like the way you say butt cheeks lol. Thanks 👏
THANKS! Being graceful was something I had to learn and continue to work on 😀hehe, I thought I would slide that word in somewhere amongst my videos 😂I'm so glad you appreciate it 💕

@@PoletatoJemPoleDancer You're Welcome 😊
Hi Jem, I am just new on your channel! Could you please recommend an affordable spinning pole to home?
Hi Tais! Welcome 👋🏼 so glad to have you here ❤️ Sure!
I am sceptical to recommend ‘cheaper’ poles. The reason being is that a pole needs to be safe and good quality because we bear so much of our weight on it and when we hang upside down it can be so dangerous if it falls. There’s been stories of cheaper poles falling or the finish on the pole cutting the skin. Just nasty stuff like that!
If you get top quality poles, this is greatly reduced (as long as it’s installed properly in a suitable space - the floor and ceiling need yo be appropriate type).
I can only recommend the poles that I have used. I have had no issues with XPole. They are the top pole brand in this space. I have the links in the description for the exact one I have or the equivalent options if you are in US or UK. When it comes to choosing a pole, we have to weight up whether it’s worth going for cheaper brands which may compromise safety. I’m sorry I can’t confirm if any of these brands are safe.
However, in saying all this, there are ways to reduce the price! Firstly, you could always access a community through Facebook, through people of your pole studio or even better from a trusted person you know to buy a second hand pole (and if you are worried maybe get it checked). You could also choose different finishes on the pole. I have brass because I find it easier to grip and it’s consistent with the ones in my studio. But I do know if you get chrome, stainless steel, powder coated etc. it will all reduce the cost. So it’s up to you if you don’t mind choosing a different finish on the pole even if it differs from your studio pole which might make it harder to switch between poles (as some finishes are gripper than others and will allow you to do moves more easily). Play around with the different finishes when you are on a pole shop website to see how it affects the price and if possible try them in person to double check whether you like it :)
Sorry for the long reply! You are always welcome to ask more and I’ll do my best to help guide your decision!
I have found having a pole to be such a great investment even though costly to buy initially! Especially during COVID lock downs. But because it’s my biggest passion right now and I plan to do it in the long run and because it allows me to make videos which I enjoy so much, it’s been of great value! I do understand it can be tough on the wallet. I was able to go half price on a new one with my sister who I live with who also does pole ($700 or so costed me $350)! So maybe that could be an option too (to split the cost with a friend or someone you live with who wants to pole at home!).
@@PoletatoJemPoleDancer This is great; thank you so much for your time! I am actually in Australia and most "pole brands" are from US, and that is why I would like to get suggestions from here :)
@Tais Sombini Oh hello fellow Aussie! 🐨
I'm sure you've probably come across XPole then! I just know most studio's have XPole because it's a highly safe brand when installed properly and maintained correctly. When I was doing research, I saw that some cheaper brands you might come across on smaller sites can have the danger of being poorly made/ lower quality materials - this can lead to the pole not holding up for very long requiring you to buy a new one anyways or worst case, falling while you are using it! I also saw a video that shows when you buy a supposed ‘XPole’ from non-reputable sites, other than directly from XPole (or from reputable online stores selling XPoles, for example, in Australia, www.dance4me.com.au/sitemap.php is the legit merchant selling XPole's), it could potentially be a fake, so gotta be careful with where you buy it from. This post sums up the safety concerns of fake poles nicely and what to look out for www.dance4me.com.au/safe-poles/
I know its super tempting to buy poles that are significantly cheaper than XPoles’s but after doing research and knowing the risks of injury and even death from fake or poorly made poles, I just had to go with the most top quality brand out there which is XPole. It’s the safest pole I know out there, which is why it’s so expensive! It may sound dramatic of me to say, but if serious permanent injury has occurred from poor quality poles, I would highly recommend going with the most safest option (even if more expensive) because your life if more valuable than anything!
The best way I know people can get good quality poles at a discount is through buying XPole’s second hand from trusted people they know (usually from their pole studio). You could also try local pole buy, swap and sell FB groups!

This is a hard question to answer because it is different for everyone! My best advice is to work on strength and flexibility off the pole too!
When I first started I was doing mainly just pole moves and I progressed just by doing this. But I have realised the importance of training off the pole to progress and be safer. Hope this helps ❤️
@@PoletatoJemPoleDancer ok!! It does. Thank you!
These are beautiful but I'm a big girl and very beginner who absolutely cannot lift myself like this. I could not do any of these. Lmao I'd call these more intermediate moves. Maybe one day. Haha
Thank you for trying them out Jen 💖 I agree, these arn't beginner beginner moves! Definitely would not expect somebody whose just started pole like yourself to do these ones. I learnt these in a class for later beginner dancers. It's so subjective what level different moves belong to as every studio varies! I am 'intermediate' according to classes I take but I find many 'beginner' spins challenging to hold or do one after the other without touching the ground! Yes, for sure :D Try them out later on and see if you find them easier with a bit more strength built over time 💪

Thank you Samantha!! This is exactly why I enjoy sharing these videos. To have helped you enjoy pole is such an honour 🥰 Hang in there with the progress side of it. I was big on progressing too but then I realised I wasn’t enjoying it as much as I did when I first started. Pole is a real slow game and it took me a while to realise it. We progress at such different rates too, so I felt the same way seeing other people look sooo lovely doing moves in my class (like my little sister whose a dancer and started the same time as me!).
Hope you continue to enjoy the videos here and loving pole dance 💕
If I have learnt anything from my progress so far, it is do not compare yourself to others. You develop your skill at your own speed and that is completely okay! Admire your growth.
@@dagmar1101 I love this 🙌 It's just so true. It can take a long time and an active effort to even begin thinking in ways that are helpful to us.

@@brokexartist That’s wonderful! I love seeing/ doing contemporary dance and ballet is beyond me! I didn’t do dance but I took a few classes in my adult age and really liked it :) I hope you get to try pole one day. You’d do beautifully 💕
I've been a beginner for a long time. Just to accomplish these moves would be bring me joy! Thanks.🙏💕
I wish you all the luck in working towards these moves Jill 💖 Pole is truly a marathon 💪
Take it as slow as you need you'll continue to build those foundational skills solidly 👏
I'm not strong enough to hold myself up like this yet.
@@PerriPlays That's okay! A lot of people on here have said the same. Pole takes a lot of time and we all start at different levels. Slow and steady wins the race 🐢 Have you tried any off the pole strengthening or pole moves which don't require lifting your whole body? I highly recommend to if you haven't, it can really help prepare your body and prevent injury 🥰
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Very graceful and beautiful!
Simple spins do not get the attention they deserve. Many of these moves are easy, but quite lovely and when joined with transitions can make a perfect routine.

So elegant! Good job girl!
Please tell me, is your plasterboard ceiling?
