I routinely carry the BLF A6 as my EDC, but I literally just pulled this light out of my F150's center counsol and charged up the battery. It really is a nice EDC light if you like that sized light. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. Have a great weekend.
Love this light, glad I have one. Edit: I suspect they discontinued it because of an issue where sunlight into the led would turn it on. I never pocket carried it like that, led up, so take it for what it's worth. Probably why the reviewer was having it turn on despite having the clip cover the switch. Anyway, I like the 14500 or aa options with the size, etc.
I honestly don't know. I don't ever buy or store alkaline batteries. I mainly use LI/IMR cells in my EDC gear or Eneloops in things like TV remotes. Now, with a topped of Eneloop, it blinks twice and stays in the same mode you started in. That said, my light has always had an IMR 14500 in it, and sometimes, lights that see heavy use with 14500s can act a little strangely when you try to go back to normal AAs, so maybe my light is no longer representative of the model. Not sure if that helps. If I can beg or borrow an alkaline I will try it and get back to you.
Hello, I write from Poland. Good reviews You did. I bought this flashlight and I have a problem. Could You check if turbo mode (5 degrees Celsius) works well at low temperatures? Because it does not work properly. I walk with the dogs for a walk, the temperature of about 5 degrees Celsius, the latch in the turbo mode works only a few seconds and goes into medium mode about 50lm, less than 220lm. Not to mention 300lm. Turbo and high mode are not working, only medium as maximum. I did the test, the flashlight was 5 minutes in the fridge, the high mode and the turbo did not work. Electronics do not work properly at low temperatures. After returning home and heating the flashlight, turbo mode works properly. Greetings! Andrew.
Andrew, thanks for watching. My light, which I still use once in awhile, works fine in the cold. Sounds like your light has a defect. I would recommend reaching out to the vendor you purchased from or to Olight directly for repair or replacement.
Here is a link to one over at EDCPlanet- edcplanet.com/forum/threads/is-the-olight-s1a-baton-the-best-aa-torch-available-today.3407/ Most of the pictures are gone because I no longer use Photobucket. The same review could also be found at the USN and the EDCC, but those are private and you can't even get to the forums without being a member. I hope that helps.
Thanks, George. I glad it was of some service to you. I actually have several new Olights coming- purchased by me, not free review samples- so I'm sure there will be more in the near future. They include an i3E, 2 H1 Nova headlamps, and a H05 Active headlamp. Here is the link to my collection- budgetlightforum.com/node/10711#comment-182993. I'd be happy to review any of them if there is an interest.
I discuss the output with Eneloop or other 1.2v NiMH cells in minute six. I also reiterate the versatility of the light, vis a vis its ability to handle all "AA" sized cells, for another minute at the end of the video. Since the average view duration of one of my videos is only 3:34, perhaps you didn't get that far. While I use Eneloops in some things, O almost exclusively use some sort of LI or IMR cell when the option exists, so the review overall reflects my personal usage. Anyway, the full specs can be found on Olight's website. Google search skills would be your friend here.
Can't you lock the battery out by pressing and holding the switch? Is the magnet strong enough to hold the torch in an horizontal position? I find that the S30R struggles with that, an 18650 battery is just too long and heavy I guess, it's OK in a vertical hung position though. I'm still rocking the S10R, I know that it's an CR123/RCR123 powered torch but I think that it's better than this S1A, OK it's turbo isn't has high but the runtimes, smaller size and docking base suit me more.
Hi, Steve. I don't believe you can lock out the light via the switch. I think some other Olights have that option, but boot this one. A press & hold from off gets you Moon and a press & Hold while On cycles you through the modes. Plus, the owners manual doesn't say anything about locking out the light. Of course, maybe there is something I'm missing. This is a diminutive light and the magnet is plenty strong to hold it pretty much anywhere. In fact, I have a metal lamp on my nightstand where the cylindrical body of the lamp is about 1 1/4" in diameter and even thought the S1A doesn't make full contact, it will hang horizontally no problem. As you know, there is no one size fits all answer to any gear question, so I'm not surprised by anyone who claims the S1A (or any light) doesn't tick off all the boxes. Thanks for taking the time to stop by. It's always appreciated.

Snatch, where did you get the 200 number from? Turbo is 600 lumens. Even regular high is 220 lumens, not 200. I'd be interested in seeing a massed produced, AA light, that is putting out 1600 lumen. I am all over the internet raving about that light. The great news for all of us, Snatch, is that there are plenty of lights to still fall in love with. Oh, since I don't recall seeing your name over at BLF, I think you may like that forum, so check it out of you have time. Really good group over there while still being laid back. If you are already over there, disregard what I said.
Most of my 18650 flashlights are 1000 lm. Indeed i own a Nitecore TUP with momentary 15 minutes 1000lm and 2:45hours 200lumens, and is smaller in lenght but wider. But once its depleated i must recharge it. This Olight is much more convenient imho.
Still another shill review... I swear, you can't find an honest review of a product on RUclips. Everyone is either given the product "for a review" or has an affiliate link in their video description. No matter how "honest" you claim to be, when you didn't drop cash on the light, there's no way you will be objective. Shame... RUclips was once the first place I'd come for honest reviews. Now it's a joke trying to find someone who actually gives an unbiased opinion.

Except for some of the flashlight reviews on this channel, everything else- the vast, vast, majority of it- that I talk about was paid of with my own money. This channel is not my career. I make no money from it. There never was an affiliate link. I don't do Olight review after Olight review after Olight review. And I mention they were giving these out like candy over at BLF. I was completely upfront about my potential bias. Moreover, I never go looking for product to review, the few flashlights I've been given to review we offers that came out of the blue. I happened to noticed that you have not taken the time to post up reviews of any of your gear on your channel. Perhaps you could try your hand at making honest reviews. In the meantime, maybe check out my Javelin review or some of the others on this channel before you decide how objective I am.

Just as you have... admittedly. I'm not saying you're video isn't your honest opinion... I'm just saying I don't know you from Adam... And refuse to take someone's word for it, when instead of going out of pocket, they present a cherry picked product, it's hard to be critical when it's free...
I totally get what you are saying. Of course you have to factor in how I got the light when you weigh what I am saying. Maybe Santa will bring you one of those shake lights at Christmas?
