Yes that's the weak point I've no idea why they did that the previous model didn't have such a big jump. The 200-300lm mark is important it's widely used and should have been included
I just purchased this light and it works fine in turbo mode with the battery that came with it. I think it is because it came with a 16340 battery, not a RCR123 that showed.
Great review. I agree across the board with your points. The mode spacing and the battery options kinda killed it for me. I've got couple olights, R40 and a s10. My wife has taken the R40 because the modes are easy to use when walking the dogs, and the s10 is on the fridge. Also got the pl mini on my G17. By far my favorite wml. Olight makes some great stuff even though I'd pass on this one.
They are popular due to the size I think ideal for a pocket torch, I do wish they got rid of the custom battery charging it's not something I've ever liked myself.
Nice review. But I doubt I'll ever EDC it due to the unprotected Side Switch. I carry flashlights in a small pants pocket. Usually I prefer lights with Tail Switches, which won't accidentally turn on. But I do EDC the Olight S1A Baton since it's pocket clip can be rotated to cover the switch. So I can operate it with ONE hand. And Lockout features are either too slow, or require multiple button presses. So it looks like I won't be carrying any of the new Olights.
@@acureone987 From the looks of it, you can also unlock it by holding that same switch down for the same amount of time... which can happen easily inside a pocket when you're sat down in a car (ask me how I know this), or it's inside a pouch or rucksack pocket... at which point you potentially have a 1000lm torch firing away right next to things that can easily burn. I remain unconvinced. I'd be happy if it had a flush switch like the Perun Mini, but this is quite a deal breaker for me.
With my flight s1r turbo, it has a turbo of 900 lumens. But after a year or so my turbo only lasts MAYBE 10 seconds before dropping down. So maybe if they had only made it 750 lumens it could've sustained that it's entire life, I'm not sure. Either way they should work on that issue.
Great review. Also bummed out about that missing 300 lumen mode. Do you know any alternatives to this that has a 0,5 lumen mode and a 1000 peak? But with the 300 mode. The amount of models and brands are starting to get to me. Love everything else about it :/
Yes it's a strange omission that is a very useful power level and I use it often. There are probably too many models and makers, but they seem to be surviving so I assume people are buying them!
Its not techincly missing. The second mode starts off at 600 lumen and than after aprox. 2 minutes (not sure on exactly how long it takes) it steps down to exactly 300 lumens which it runs on until you turn it off. So in a way it does have 300 lumen mode lol. You can look this feature up in the flashlight's specs.

You are stuck using a custom cell for charging in the light, that's the main downside Baton II also has spacing which is more towards to the top end 1000/600/60/12/0.5 I'd prefer something about 150-200 which I would use quite a bit Cranking 1000lm will punish the battery over the months so it won't hold turbo long once it's wearing out. Just remember these things. They are nice lights but for me I'd rather go with say a Fenix E16 with a micro USB battery it's also neutral white, up to you though

I returned it. Loved everything EXCEPT the 60-600, tHat was the deal breaker. I prefer the 400 lumen for four hours on the S2R Baton II

16340 is the same battery as RCR123A same size. Turbo will work alright, over time though it will get shorter as the battery wears out

You can lock it by holding down the side switch until after the moonlight mode

Its ok, i have it. But is on max mode to hot, to much hot !!! Its not good. Do you have the same problem

Design looks similar to this with the S2RII ie smaller with the same grip. Quite a floody light if it's the same beam as the older model

Hi Robert I would consider taking a power bank, if you're in the desert with a decent solar power panel it can generate quite a good charge rate.

Consider other makers too there is quite a bit of choice. Depends on battery type and if you want in torch charging
