Great comparison. Love the video showing the throw of each light. I've had the Olight for 6 mos now and love it. I mainly carry my mini Olight to blind/disorient someone at night if ever needed to and it seems that the beam on the Olight, even though lumens are rated as lower, Olight has much brighter white beam than the Thrunite. . I'm going to stick with my Olight--although for the price the Thrunite does seem like a great EDC option.
after seeing all the comparisons between these two, it was an easy choice for me to go with the T1, plus be 1/3 cheaper, it's a no brainer. I have other lights with the hot center, and at first they are cool, but the wider flood angle, just gives so much more light....
Great review! I wish I had seen this before I purchased the T1. A few months ago my S1RII was stolen and I was looking into another flashlight but didn't want to drop the 60$. I watched the review by HarleyWood and he leans more toward the T1 so he convinced me. Of course they are both great lights but there are so many small (insignificant?) things I prefer about the Baton. For one the size is just right, it has a sturdy feel with the etched grip, crisp buttons and oh so beautiful beam pattern. Thats what really sets it apart for me and you can really notice it in your video: even though the T1 has more lumens the Olight looks and feels brighter because the hotspot and spread is so well balanced. I ordered one of the blue S1RII batons now for the charity sale so it made me want to revisit this thread of research. Thanks for the great review, owning both myself (and generations of batons in the past) I say the gold still goes to Olight on this one but my T1 will remain a trusty backup for emergencies. 👍
If I had to choose, it would be tuff! I like the hotter center of the olight, but I prefer the higher Lumen and longer run time of the turbo mode of the Thrunite. (When I have a need to use my flashlight I almost always am using turbo mode) However, I have had nonstop charging issues with my TC-15 using the USB cable and have resorted to just charging the batteries in my Nitecore battery charger. I prefer olight's proprietary magnetic charging cable. But, I typically do not lose my stuff. I guess the Thrunite would win out for me solely because of the longer turbo mode run time.
Olights proprietary charging has completely lost me as a customer after the battery failed on my seeker LE. I want a light that can take any battery and charge with any cord.
Yes. Well charge with any cord doesn't matter if the cord it comes with is cheap to replace and built to last. Like, 1 dollar and 3 dollars for shipping or 4 bucks with free shipping.
I like and use both, magnetic charging is superior in form and function and takes more abuse, USB is more common and available.......wish ALL charging devices used a magnetic "plug" that doen not have an inferior connector that damages easily "prong" always gets bent if device falls, or dog tail catches cord and device hits ground bending prong ect ect ect. Lost count on how many USB cords I have gone through I the past years as they are inferior as is usbc just a glorified USB, sub par for me. Especially since i have extensive use with high current high quality battery connectors for decades. Yeah I'm no spring chicken. USB,USB C are very under engineered, fact, but they are mainstream so it is what it is. Magnetic or similar is the future, no hard contact, care free plug in ability, no prong to bend, wear out and fatigue with common use.
Yes, I've always appreciated olight's beam patterns as well. It really looks and feels brighter at 2/3 the lumens in my opinion because the hotspot/spread pattern is so well designed.
I've got a few of the Olight S1R Batons. • They also have a strobe, with a 3x click. • Some of the other colors (limited editions) have a different beam. They range from Cool white, Neutral, and a warmer yellowish like the Thrunite was.
T1 is ideal UI imo. More battery capacity also is nice. I like the mag charger on O light and beam patterns on O light are nice. Love cost of T1 basically free.
Just the Proprietary charger on the Olight is enough for me to dismiss it. I have the Fenix E30S with the proprietary magnetic charger, and it's a pain...I don't want to have to cary that cord with me all the time. Being able go into almost any quick shop, dollar store, gas station or whatever, you can buy an a Micro usb, if you happen to break one or lose one....That speaks volumes towards usefulness...
Tim, what about the batteries themselves? The Olight's, to accommodate their charging design, seems to be a proprietary [?] modification of a standard battery unit -- just available from Olight [?] -- while I'd guess the Thrunite is O.K. with any brand or generic that meets spec. How big a deal is *this* , from your experience (I have none with these devices)? I note that Olight seems to have a $5 minimum charge for shipping, and that's stiff for one replacement battery! Do you keep an extra battery for the S1R II Baton charged and ready in backup? THANKS.
I own both brands and enjoy both, I’ve only had experience with Olight customer service and found it much to my liking both email as well as over the phone.
Good comparison! And holy crap i love the S1RBaton 2. Got the Ti Winter edition. The ony thing that really sucks is what you said at the start. The clip does not move. Depending on my pants i often activate the butten i my pocket because its on the other side of the clip pushing on my leg... that actually made me use the old s1r again
@@youtubename1234 yessir. Hold the button down until the light flashes, then it's locked. Hold again until it turns back on. It can't turn back on from a simply press so you need to hold it.
The pricing on the Olights is pretty steep here in Austria (generally prices on these kinds of things tend to be a good bit higher than in the US), so that price difference is gonna be a lot more significant. The S1R Baton II currently runs 83.95€ on their official shop that services Germany and Austria, which at today's conversion rate is about $91 (!), making it about a $39 price difference to the T1. As you might imagine that makes the Olight quite a bit less attractive, especially when running on a tight budget for discretionary spending like I am. As nice as they look, it just doesn't seem like a justifiable expense to me. Wish they were cheaper, cause then the Olight would be a serious contender as an EDC light for me. As it currently stands it's out of the running on price alone.
I have both Olight Batons, S1R Baton II and the S2R Baton II and the S1R is the one that I always have on my person. I LOVE that little light! The Thrunites I have are the TH10V2 and the Catapult V6 Mini (for the car) but I infinitely prefer my Olights for EDC!
It comes down to distance in use. Close distance as a camp light I like or office back-up Thrunite has a softer flood. But on the trail or say a warehouse the Olight throws better (spot) for distance. Nice review. Thanks Bro.
I'm currently using the M1T Raider for edc. One feature that sold me to buy it is the button on the bottom instead of side button. Every side button flashlight I've owned turns on in my pocket. Waste of battery/charge when that happens.
Nice comparison. I very much prefer the UI if the Olight over that of the Thrunite. I also feel the Acebeam TK16 AL compares favorably to both of these lights.
The white light olight seems to be brighter than the yellowish thrunight. I learned a long time ago that skimping on cost costs more in the long run. Maybe not in this instance but usually it does. But then I may be a fanboy of olight. great review sir.
On camera I like the olight but in person I bet the thrunite is a little nicer lightwise. Having the steel bezel is more attractive to me too. Extremely similar lights. Compare with Fenix soon.
Me too i believe the thrunite make 50% more light but in this video I see only a little more diffuse light but not more power, this video saves me to buy the thrunite, thanks for the video.
Right, technology been available for awhike now. I keep telling folks stop clambering for USB c (also sub par like mini usb) when far better tech is available. Cords for charging anything in small electronics is old and outdated.
I got both of these lights. I have many Olights and Thrunites, a lot more Olights than Thrunites. Both customer service are good. But Olight customers service always goes the extra mile. Olight's customer service is second to none.
The color of the olight is clean. The thrunite is too yellow. The olight always seemed brighter no mater the lumens. I love my olight. The clip on the olight is too loose though. The baton 2 fell out of my pocket a dozen times before I lost it for good.
well it would it's a focused beam...But lots of darkness outside of that concentrated spot....Lot more coverage with the T1 beam, which means a whole lot less movement of the light to keep sweeping the area, and more time for what you are focusing on, Like a Target...
Thrunite T1: BEST OF LUCK TRYING TO GET THE METAL CLIP ONTO THE BILL OF YOUR CAP without a screwdriver to pry it open. It ain't happening otherwise. Part of the selling point was the T1 could be used as a headlamp alternative. Yeah.
It is, the t1 is also a warmer light which will look less bright to a cool light. Thrunite's have been tested for advertised lumens alot and have constantly shown to be accurate, sure some may pass through QC, send Irvin and get it replaced, it is NOT a common problem per many reviews.
I’m literally getting addicted to flashlights..lol keep up the work!

The T1 as an EDC and work light is far superior due to the battery life and flood pattern. Battery life is ESSENTIAL
