So what do you think guys? Buying a well known brand of RC does have a lot of benefits especially when it comes to parts and product support but some budget options out there offer so much for the money that it makes them very appealing to RC Beginners! If i missed any info feel free to drop a comment down below! Cheers guys and see you on the next one! 😎👍
@@pineapplecurds3172 i do like the ion range and maverick parts availability seems to be good but its a tough one for the same price or slightly more you can get a 144001 which has more metal components and a lipo compared to the nimh you get with the ion and a lot of plastic components.
I'm new again, I used to buy expensive stuff, it would break then I would delay buying parts as they were expensive also. This time I want cheap. If it breaks I will just purchase a new one. With the expensive brands there are upgrades to make them better where with a cheaper one, it is what it is and it is just about tearing about and having fun. I don't want something that needs hundreds of dollars to make it what it should have been.
Tried some Banggood specials like ZD Racing which I personally thought were junk. The only one I’d recommend is the 144001 which I just got to mod but really like it. The quality with brands like Arrma are night and day. The 3s or Mega brushed Arrma are where I’d start. Tried Maverick and Absima too and they have reasonable cars around the £100 mark. Just got a Corally Radix and Kronos v2 and seriously impressed proper chunky beasts and I reckon they are very close to or even better than Arrma in some areas. You should check one of the V2’s out 👍
I only have the haiboxin 16889 and am very impressed. I think your spot on though, if you have the money then go with a big brand high end model. I guess the 2nd hand market is always another alternative to the budget brand. Prob worth a mention in a video like this
Out of all the RC channels I have subbed in the last few months this is the best for clear and simpleadvice/info. Top draw style on the filming and wltoys builds. That purple 12xxx build is a banger.
Thank you! Thats what i am aiming for when i do these beginner style videos just want them to be simple to follow not too much to take in for someone who is new to RC! Appreciate that and the 124019 4s Build will be coming up soon we still need to speed run it!! Its been built for a while now!
Buy once cry once. Save up for the car you really want or start building a roller when funds allow. That being said I have a wltoys 144001 and a Typhon. To me the Typhon is a great value for the versatility. You can set it up for light off road to clay track or a street spreed demon. $500 for the car; $100 for a battery; and $50 for the spool and pinion gears got my Typhon to 101mph. All together I’m hitting triple digits cheaper than a Limitless, Infraction, or XO-1.
144001 for ever ! Perfect car size to make tracks in your backyard garden ! Bought seven 144001 and still love the stock motor even having 3 brushless. Got a 1/8 scale truggy and it makes me love even more my 144001. 144001 is good for dirt track and also good for making a 180 Km/h F1 road runner. 144001 can make you quit video games, it is good for your health and cost less than Tabaco.
Well done, very good information in this video, especially the "parts availability" uhmmm...part. 😉 Only thing I'm missing as a 3rd alternative is the midrange stuff. Like Tamiya. You know, kits, building, learning, painting, installing electronics etc.
Lots of great points in this video. I have Haiboxing monster trucks that you reviewed and parts are mostly available on amazon here in the US. I also have an Arrma Granite and support is very good from the seller and manufacturer. One thing they have in common... they are all fun. Really enjoying your channel. Thank you for the great videos.
Thanks Rick! The haiboxing 16889 is one of my favourite little RCs so cheap and durable. The arrma granite brushed mega was the car that got me back in to the hobby last year and it was the best purchase I made parts are everywhere and it's built like a tank!
Nice video. All depends on budget. I started off with a $60 wltoys and loved it. 1 year later I'm a 6s Arrma felony owner. Takes me months to save up but I love it.
I myself can recommend Wltoys, I have the 144001 I love it! One thing to be careful (at least with the 144001) is the servo, it's not super hard to strip the gears in it, no big deal though.
I was thinking about getting a 144001, but also might buy some extra parts and upgrades. I wasn't one of those kids that had all their toys broken by the end of Christmas day, but... well you know.
well my sg1603 came with a crappy servo that would not center...so i tried using a servo out of a wltoys 144001 and the 5 pin was a different size... swapped connectors and the 144001 fried the servo port on sg1603...no parts available for sg 1603 ...so i had to order a complete brushless up grade for it after only 10 mins running it.. name brand parts should be ready available...
Budget is good if you choose the right ones. I've got a 144 and JLB Cheetah roller and fitted a good quality hobbywing ESC and motor. Both need a lot of tinkering to make them durable. I wanted to step up to a premium brand. Particularly the Kraton exb but it has so many faults and recommended upgrades before even running it, that I've decided to stick with what I've got, for now. Plus parts for the popular premium cars are near impossible to get hold of.
Do we pay an import tax on anything from Banggood? Thinking about the WLT144001. Great price at mo but concerned I’ll get slapped with duties which will make it not such a great price.....
I have had a lot of cars off them and never once been hit with import tax! Not sure how they do it but they have warehouses all over the place and think they ship stock to a local warehouse then from there to your door and almost all the models I receive are by royalmail which is uk based not an airmail sticker in sight and uk tracking numbers. They have it sorted 😏
Good video mate, very helpful for beginners I’m sure. I agree you don’t always have to get the best brands to have fun and get into the Rc hobby. WLtoys are really doing well with there models right now, I always tell people there’s nothing wrong with getting cheaper brands but ONLY ever buy any brand of model if you get easily get spare/replacement parts for them, if you can’t get the parts then don’t buy them..
Cheers Marc! Hope your good mate. Exactly that spares are incredibly important and often overlooked when it comes to a beginner looking for their first RC was worth a mention in the vid as I have made the mistake myself years ago!
@@beyondRC hi bud, I’m getting there hopefully thanks 👍 I totally agree with you mate, yeah I think most of us have at some point with one type of Rc model or another, to be honest though it’s another reason I love traxxas, I have 10 year old models that spares and upgrades can still be bought, not many brands can say that which is a big shame, my little girls Losi strike SCT is around 10 years old now too bud parts are now non-existent unfortunately so if something breaks in that now its a shelf queen but to be fair it’s built like a tank lol, I might have to to a show and tell on that soon.. happy rcing buddy and take care 👍
I bought a budget brand rc (Maverick Quantum MT Flux HD) and I live in the US. It's been a PITA finding parts for this thing! Some parts are out of stock everywhere so I had to improvise and use Traxxas parts for it. Yeah I'm sticking with Arrma and Traxxas like I always did before that purchase. Meh.
As I sit here with a busted 144001 looking at the price of each shattered component, I can't help but really wonder if a Typhon would have been the same price with less breakage by now. To list my broken components: bent axles, bent shock tower supports, cracked front diff cup, cracked front suspension arm, cracked suspension arm support bushing (plastic component nestled where the suspension arm pivots), and nearly worn through tires. I spent $130 on the car and thought what a deal, now if I wanted to replace the broken parts it's about another $90 to $120 if I were to strictly replace instead of repairing what I can. Tell me true, if I had bought a name brand are parts expensive there too? Proportionately this seems absurd. If I pay $500 to get into a Typhon and I drive it hard, but not destructively, would I pay $400 in parts almost immediately in your opinion? I followed the guides to set up my 144001, fresh shock oil, fresh diff lube, adjusted toe in, toe out, camber, didn't drive straight into any walls or drop it off any heights, even added a cooling fan for better heat dissipation and yet here I sit with nearly the same as the starting cost of the vehicle in repairs. I'm finding it hard to not get discouraged from this hobby here. Is this just how RC is now? Editing to say thank you for your channel, you have taught a lot of new guys a lot of good info and it's nice to see the reviews, I'll be picking up some of your recommended smaller ones for indoor play in the future. I don't want to be all doom and gloom :)
Me and a friend have been running 124019's, I must say they are pretty fragile. We've already broken some parts on it and haven't really "bashed" it, just fooling around on streets and footpaths. Broken parts so far (some already after the second run): sideskirt protection, gear casing, a wheel, one of the suspension arms. Are the bigger brands just as fragile? Looking at other channels who bash a lot, I'd think yes?
Every RC will break at some point its the nature of the hobby and all part of the fun. The bigger brands can sometimes use better quality plastics which does make certain models stronger but as I say any RC can break depends on how far you push them!
Absolutely. Consider the 144001, 124019, Maverick Range and the HBX 16889 is a very durable little 1/16 Monster truck. Depends on what your budget is 👍
