As a child I believed that the Bible was the word of God and that Jesus was my savior .In 1988 I was drinking a fifth of alcohol a day . I knew that there was more to life than I realized but I didn't know what it was . I had a wonderful girlfriend , we raced motorcycles , we went to bluegrass festivals and did whatever we wanted to do . I realized that I had everything the world said was happiness but I felt something important was missing and I didn't know what it was. I tried scientology , all kinds of yoga, martial arts and various other disciplines but nothing satisfied me . One Sunday morning I came home drunk in a taxicab and waiting outside of my house was a man who was giving my roommate a ride to church. I had gone to alcoholics anonymous for six months and they helped me a lot but I had gone back to drinking .He invited me to sit in his car and talk. He asked me if I wanted a bible study. I said I would love to have a bible study . He came on Monday nights the only night of the week that I didn't drink. It was a 12 week bible study that went from Genesis to Revelation. He showed me in the book of Acts ( Acts 2:38 ) where it said repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sin and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost . I said I'd never seen that in the bible and I wanted to get baptized in Jesus' name and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. I got baptized in Jesus' name and prayed for two months to get the Holy Ghost. The night that I got the Holy Ghost I was praying and I started to talk in tongues , I felt wonderful and GOD delivered me from the spirit of alcohol . I have never wanted to drink since then and I praise GOD for that.
. The man who gave me the twelve week bible study taught me a ' GODHEAD ' bible study twice but i didn't understand the oneness of God or the trinity . I was reading the bible one day and read Ephesians 4 : 5-6 that i had previously highlighted in my bible . God gave me the revelation of oneness . ' ONE LORD , ONE FAITH , ONE BAPTISM , ONE GOD AND FATHER OF ALL , WHO IS ABOVE ALL , AND THROUGH ALL ,AND IN YOU ALL !
JOHN 3:16 IS JUST ONE VERSE : YOU NEED TO READ ALL OF CHAPTER THREE TO UNDERSTAND JESUS' PLAN OF SALVATION !
    I was a believer from childhood but i wasn't saved .
THANK YOU FOR READING THIS !

Generally, a dissertation is a treatise that advances a new point of view resulting from research. God's word is sure, never changing. @m4gicman52 6 лет назад +1

      Would you mind explaining

    • @TKK0812
      @TKK0812 6 лет назад +1

@@m4gicman52 Sure! I'd first give you a 30,000 ft view and if you'd like me to explain more deeply my position, I'd be happy to. You may not even agree, which is fine, but by Dr. White's comment I would say he’s not fairly representing the non-reformed view. I would affirm predestination, election, foreknowledge, Eph 1, John 6, Romans 9, Acts 13 on and on. I think the reformed position feels they have a stronghold on some parts of the Bible that the non-reformed dare not tread, but that's not the case. As Christians who believe in the absolute authority of scripture, no passage should "give us hives" in order that we may hold to a doctrine.
      1. Not the main part of my argument, but just off the bat, if we define "dead" as the reformed do, why does God talk about making a people’s heart calloused if it's born calloused? Why talk about ears being dulled and eyes being closed to people who are born not able to hear and not able to see unless God irresistibly regenerates them? Seems like it would be business as usual and wouldn't require a prophecy about the Jews while Jesus was incarnate. Dead is dead according to the reformed position, so to say God was making them more "dead" is illogical and unnecessary. I’ve heard reformed people make an argument like this, but it’s simply creating an unafforded category in order to make a position unfalsifiable.
      2. This is a prophecy about the Jewish people that is seen played out all throughout Jesus’ earthly ministry and is specifically mentioned 5 times in the NT. In a similar vein in Romans 11, Paul references Isaiah 29:10 and Deut 29:4 to inform us about the Jews hardened condition:
God gave them a spirit of stupor,
      eyes that would not see
and ears that would not hear,
      down to this very day.
Again, why is a spirit of stupor being sent to spiritually dead people who from birth were already unable to willingly respond positively to the Gospel without having been predestined before the foundation of the world to believe? Why is he making more blind the blind, and more deaf the deaf, according to the reformed view? More detail is needed but again this is my basic premise.
      3. 1 Cor 2:8. God used the hardened hearts of the Jewish people to carry out His redemptive work on the cross. As Romans 9 eludes to, God is completely justified in using people in their rebellious state to carry out His plan, He can even harden them in that state if He so chooses (Pharaoh). You never see God arbitrarily hardening or judging morally neutral people(s), it always those already in rebellion to Him. Remember, during Jesus’ earthly ministry, He wasn’t trying to draw large numbers to Himself. This is partly because Israel was being hardened and couldn’t come to Him, and partly because of what 1 Cor 2:8 says.
      4. Why did Jesus speak in parables? Read why Jesus says He spoke in parables. It makes little sense for Him to do so to people who are already haters of God from birth and unable to willingly respond positively to the Gospel. Actually, the Isaiah 6 prophecy says that if God hadn’t calloused the hearts of the Jews or closed their eyes and dulled their ears (or spoken in parables for that matter), they *might* turn and He *would* heal them.
Again, so much more detail is needed, but I hope that provides some clarification!

    • @TKK0812
      @TKK0812 6 лет назад

@@edodt4220 *It sounds like you are conflating "hardness of heart" with "death." These are not the same. And you are sort of implying that somehow your observations on those challenge Total Depravity. They do not*
I’m actually not and I think you missed my point or I wasn’t clear enough. The point is that the passage itself specifically relates to the closing of ears and eyes and callousing of hearts to willfully repent and trust and be healed. I’m not talking about petting a kitten or committing a morally “good” act to which some could become hardened to, I’m talking specifically in regard to a response to the Gospel message, and so is the text. If people are born “dead”, and unable to willingly respond positively to the Gospel without pre-faith regeneration or to trust in the Lord or to fear God, then God has no need to send a spirit of stupor to accomplish what the fall has already accomplished. It’s not just a philosophical argument, because I also have a biblical position and they aren’t mutually exclusive. I’m saying the reformed position is untenable because it’s not what scripture is teaching. I’m saying the reformed position has missed the context and read their position onto the text and that the interpretation is incorrect, not that scripture must make sense philosophically. Also, I would reject this notion that we don’t use our God given minds and reasoning to interpret God’s word. We all use reasoning to interpret God’s word. To say your position is biblical while mine is philosophical is just false. As I said in my post, this was a 30,000 ft view of my position, not a complete commentary.
*That's one of the problems with the heart.....it is by nature UNFAITHFUL. This does not mean it is utterly hardened at all times.*
You are actually proving my point here. You’re bouncing between moral actions and repentance in faith as if they were the same and I don’t think you are recognizing that you are trying to have it both ways.
      You're missing scriptural context.
*On the fourth point, you restate what has been said before that is a critical error of understanding: the assumption that these hearers would have otherwise been saved had God NOT hardened their hearts
      *
I actually didn’t say this and I believe in the post I even made bold the word “might” from the biblical text. This wasn’t God’s first warning to His people who then continued in their sin, and obviously eventually God turns people over. I’m saying they might have willingly responded but because of their continued rebellion they were hardened by God and now could not willingly respond positively to His warnings or the message. This is a judgement and God is just in doing so. However, your position says they were born unable to willingly respond without pre-faith regeneration and now they are more unable to willingly respond without pre-faith regeneration. You’re trying to make a distinction without a difference, and it’s one that the biblical text does not afford your position and it’s not the point the biblical text is trying to communicate. Again, the context is not kitten petting to murder, it’s able to turn and repent to not able.
*It is true that God only hardens those who are in rebellion toward Him, but there is absolutely no such thing as a "morally neutral" person*
My point was not to get into a discussion regarding the nature of man or to say there are literally morally neutral people, it was to say that we don’t see God hardening people who aren’t already actively rebelling towards Him in an exceedingly wicked way. Obviously we all in one way or another are in rebellion towards God, but that’s a different discussion and I believe you missed the forest for the trees in what I was saying.
*After he preached, there would be NO OPPORTUNITY for the hearers to find salvation
      *
Actually, according to your position, they had no opportunity BEFORE he preached had they not been predestined to repent, correct? The moment of Isaiah’s preaching has nothing to do with the condition of their hearts or God’s judgement. Their hearts were already darkened at the moment of birth in the context of finding salvation, hating God and the like.
You have to stop conflating a morally "good" action with repentance in faith.
*You might ask why it is necessary that God use Isaiah in this way, but that is a nonsense question. Whatever means God ordains for His purposes are self-validating. He could has sent a donkey. He could have sent an angel. Questioning why God does what He does is a dangerous habit, besides being very un-useful for discovering anything about God's character.
      *
Again, and I think your presupposition keeps you from seeing this, I’m questioning your interpretation regarding God’s use of Isaiah, not God’s use of Isaiah. I’m questioning your interpretations of all these texts, not the texts themselves. I too deal with biblical texts, all of them. Those are two totally different challenges, and you’re answering my interpretations by misrepresenting what I am saying as well as presupposing your position is correct. Maybe you have only dealt with certain types of non-reformed but the non-reformed don’t just sit around challenging the reformed doctrines based off philosophical arguments while not holding to a robust biblical position themselves. Now you may not agree, but to just assume my position is based off philosophy and not the authoritative word of God is uncharitable at best.
*You are struggling against the message of the Bible*
You are struggling with the context of the Bible
*“None is righteous, no, not one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God. 12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” 13 “Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive.” “The venom of asps is under their lips.” 14 “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.” 15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 in their paths are ruin and misery, 17 and the way of peace they have not known.” 18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” (Romans 3*
Was Abraham righteous? Was Noah righteous? Was Lot righteous? Did David seek God? (Psalm 63:1) Do people have poison under their lips? Are throats open graves? Is everyone looking to shed blood? Did Joseph fear God?
I would really rather not exegete Romans 3 in RUclips comments, given we would need to go back to Romans 1 & 2 as well to draw out what he's getting at in full context. I will say however that using this compilation of OT passages as a proof text for the reformed understanding of total depravity rips not only the context of Romans 3 to pieces but also the context of the passages themselves. This is not the way to handle what Paul is saying here.
*Entertaining mind-puzzles or playing logic games will only distract you from the clear teaching of Scripture, and cause you to feel you have justified reasons for denying the truth of God's word. Man is totally depraved. His heart is utterly corrupt. The Scriptures speak with no ambiguity on this subject. To treat the matter as if it were some sort of silly crossword puzzle, where you feel perfectly safe asking that if this is true, why does God still harden hearts, is profoundly obstinate. I do not say this to be mean; I am not wise and I my capacity for sin is far more profound than your willingness to entertain silly ideas. I would encourage you to consider that Arminianism tends to do this very thing, which is to essentially argue with the teaching of Scriptures on the basis of logic or skeptical thought. They may claim to be targeting Calvin or James white, but in the end you will always find yourself contending with Scripture. Reformed folks are often accused of being overly logical, but it is the remonstrant who makes his arguments based on logic, not Scripture. MOST Arminian arguments follow this pattern: "if.....then it doesn't make sense....therefore Calvinism is wrong." Reformed doctrines don't necessarily try to make sense of it all for you. They simply tell you what the Bible says. This is why you find that the best Calvinist "debaters" also happen to be excellent exegetes, and the best Arminian "debaters" are excellent philosophers. I think too often, Calvinists swim down to the philosophy end of the pool because we know that it is very easy to punch holes in free-will philosophy (I refer to it as philosophy because it is not truly theology). However, it is best to stay on the Bible end of the pool, and talk about what the Bible teaches, instead of talking to each other like heathen philosophers. We aren't trying to find new mind-puzzles to trip up someone we disagree with. We are trying to understand and obey the Word of God.
      *
This unfortunately is again wrought with assertions and presuppositions. Truth regarding a position isn’t based off your experiences with people and simply saying things doesn’t make them so. You have continued to misrepresent what I am saying throughout your entire post and resorted to reformed platitudes and "proof texts" and said “it’s the clear teaching of scripture”. I’m not basing my position on a philosophical basis, I’m basing it off scripture as well. I’m going to refrain from addressing most of this because they are simply personal attacks and misrepresentations.

Now I want Ben to talk with the Apologia team. If Jordan Peterson joined them, that'd have to be my favorite video of all time.

Albert de Morcerf Jordan Peterson is fraud. Owen Benjamin does a great job of exposing the truth behind JP’s priorities. He was straight up asked if he believed in God and JP said, “...that depends on what you mean by God?” Ask any believer this question and you’ll never get that answer.

@@Goliad_Respector Well well, is this a fellow Reformed Bear I stumbled across? Big fan of Owen Benjamin myself. My assumption is correct in you being reformed (or at least Calvinist), since you're here on Apologia?

It's amazing how blind and puffed up James White is. With lofty words and fair speeches he decieves the hearts of the simple😔

@Rodrick Evans - notice how there is always complete silence from people who makes such claims about them once they're asked to defend their positions with Scripture. Good to see people calling out the true deceivers. Thank you!

    Wolf in sheeps clothing.
This guy defends islam more then he does Christianity. If you are Christian, your job is to save as many people as possible from hell and yet this man says that islam is not of the devil and not false.

John Marcus - You must not have seen any of his (many) debates vs Muslims. Not once has he defended their faith. What he has done is communicated with them so they can hear the truth.
