Basically Print the vocals through analog gear and use your own template and go crazy in mix Gotcha 👍🏽 I’m gonna apply this technique in my Apollo cause I literally have that same chain
You know when you have attack/release on fixed/manual it locks the attack time at 1ms, and while you're changing the attack knob it's not doing anything?
I run the TLM 102 thru 1073 (boost the high shelf about 2 or 3 dots, boost at 7k about 2 or 3 dots & cut at 50 low pass filter. Then into the CL1B at 5:1 ratio with attack at 2.0 & release at 2.5 Fixed. Threshold at 20 & gain at 5
the tlm is by default a very bright mic, boosting the highs an extra 3db might be overkill. sometimes we mistake "brighter" for "better" cuz we perceive that top end as clarity. in no way am i saying you're wrong! but maybe try putting the eq flat & just seeing how the mic sounds natural a bit more 🙌
@@sadb0y_th3_king40 choose the Neve 1073 preamp and set the gain to 30 or 35 and insert CL1B with those settings but the gain should be at 12 instead of 5
thanks for the video. Im currently running through my 1073 preamp into a warm audio wa2a, then into apollo. Thinking of adding the tubetech UAD to the chain once it goes into the apollo. Thoughts? cant afford the hardware version currently.
listen to the new travis scott album “Utopia” his vocals are super compressed, especially on Thank God and telekinesis, so i’m confused should we overcompress or not?
Thanks for the wonderful video, I can’t see very well due to a vision problem so I can only fall along to a certain extent, I do have the Nieve 1073+ the CL1B in the UAD platform I was wondering if there’s any chance we could connect together since I can’t see very well how to set it up in Consol and you could get me something that will work for me for in future sessions? I would also love to know if you could help me set up the Nieve 1073 with the distresser I would really appreciate it thanks again for the wonderful video🎙
I mean, you can't track a vocal and crush it with a comp. Ideally you just tap it so in the mix you can do more serial/parallel comp depending on your goals
Ok ! I was scared to set my threshold under 0! It felt wrong but now I see that’s ideal!
Those 5052’s sounded great! Can’t wait to come back
Thank ya!

That‘s exactly what I was thinking… 😅
I think he actually has it set to fixed/manual rather than fixed

thank you

yeah this rocked,
Try these settings for the CL1B (ratio 5:1, threshold 20db, attack 2.0, release 2.5 with the Knob on Fixed. Gain 5.0)
Yoo, Boy, as recording (UAD CONSOLE) or mix ?
@@sadb0y_th3_king40 for tracking through console.

@@harpoleon6806 thanks for that info. I’m definitely gonna try it out.
why does travis scott and alot of other trap rappers get their vocals super compressed???
It makes the auto tune sounds great try it out
Thanks

hey thats not the pad thats the phase button... great video keep going!!
Yeah, made him seem like a complete newb.
so sad but you need to read the manual of cl-1b
This vocal is not sitting in the mix at all. no wonder if he doesn't use the compression at all. Such a waste of the Cl-1B
