  • Early this spring, PG sports reporter Bob Dvorchak went on a road trip to the hometown of baseball legend Harvey Haddix. There he met his widow, Marcia Haddix, who offered a look at her collection of memorabilia while sharing her memories of her husband and his perfect game.

I had the memorable pleasure of once meeting Mr. Haddix after a game at Three Rivers in the mid 80's. We chatted, and he could not have been a more perfect gentleman. He smiled and showed me his 1960 World Series ring, (which looked like it was 24K), and signed my program. My one brush with a childhood hero, which I won't soon forget. In this ridiculous era of greedy, detached sports millionaires, the Kitten stands as tall as any of 'em.

Striking fear into the heart of every batter he ever faced...the Kitten, Harvey Haddix. RIP and thanks for the memories.
