  • A landscape photography shoot with the 'controversial' Fuji XF 16-80mm lens. Also the excellent 55-200mm Zoom lens too!
    Well, whatever is going on with this lens, I'm very happy with its performance, sharpness and flexibility. I am most certainly NOT sponsored by Fuji in case anyone is wondering!

    Excellent pictures Nigel. It shows up the beautiful colour saturation of the 16-80 and how sharp it is. I have been amazed with this lens since I had it from the day of release. The O.I.S x6 is great for my old shaky hands. Used virtually all Fuji lenses except the 80mm & 90mm. This one is the best for a one lens solution by far.

      Thanks very much Gary! I forgot to mention that at a 1/4 second 6 stops would be approximately equivalent to 1/240 sec when shooting at the 80mm end. So you obviously have to press that shutter button carefully and perhaps shoot a burst? Cheers!

    The lens is fine. On my list to acquire at some point. The problem is that too many amateur "videographers" want to use lenses intended for stills to make RUclips videos.

    • @NigelHarperPhoto
      @NigelHarperPhoto  4 года назад

      Yes, the lens is fine! Horses for courses and obviously cine lenses are far more expensive. It's all down to what you want from a lens. But this one is not for zooming whilst filming which is not a problem for me as it's primarily for stills. Cheers!

    Enjoyed the video.
    KEYWORD: PARFOCAL (A parfocal lens is a lens that stays in focus when magnification/focal length is changed. There is inevitably some amount of focus error, but too small to be considered significant). I have found more info on the problem - which it might not be the problem after all.
    According to Martin Heilbron the feature we are looking for is not available in these lenses, but admitedly some perform better then others in this regard. To get 'parafocaled' one has to look towards cinema line of lenses.

    • @NigelHarperPhoto

      Hi, Glad you enjoyed the video. Well, Maarten Heilbron certainly knows what he's talking about, so the varying focus when zooming must be inherent to the lens design I guess.

    Ah Nigel, another great Video about My Favorite Fuji Kit Lens the 16-80mm. In spite of the many negative reviews concerning Focus Problems when zooming and extreme corner softness I feel the overall excellence of this superb Lens is unrivaled and I have owned at least 12 of Fuji's best lenses by now. As an Old Blighter like you, Im a retired Pro shooter for 50 Years and now a fine Arts shooter for pleasure and Publication. Your Images are just a pleasure to see. like My close friend the great Photographer David Thomas you are quite a character. I wish I could visit the UK once more to meet you in person. but with Covid 19 going across the Pond is out for now. I look forward to many more videos from you in the future. Cheerio. Eric Gilbert.

    Nice samples. Make sure your X T3 is in boost mode when the OIS kicks in. The XF 16 to 80mm OIS WR lens far exceeded my expectations and it's closeup ability is a huge plus especially for bokeh lovers. A great all around lens!

    Beautiful video. Thanks. I’m particularly taken by the English countryside birdsong chorus. It makes one realize how much nature we miss in the city. I’m also glad to see your success with this lens. There’s been so much controversy especially from those more video oriented. This video has helped me to put things back into perspective (excuse the pun), and ignore the pixel peeping and video fanatics. While they are knowledgeable, their obsessive analysis can create « analysis paralysis « in the potential buyer.
    Lastly, doesn’t anyone in England begin the day with a good cuppa tea anymore? 🤗

    • @NigelHarperPhoto
      @NigelHarperPhoto  4 года назад

      Thanks very much Keith. I'm lucky to live in the countryside and have this scenery on my doorstep." analysis paralysis", love the phrase! The 16-80 is a great lens to use and I'm obviously happy with it. However, I'm tempted to do just one more optical test with it and hopefully silence the sceptics? I've been drinking coffee in preference to tea for many years and in the UK we have more coffee shops than estate agents etc now! Cheers!

    Great video and pics.I got the 16-80 last week and love it.I'm confused by the firmware updates? Do I need to install both i.e 1.01 followed by 1.02 or can I just jump straight to 1.02?

    Great video! Haven't you discovered soft corners with the 16-80? Many reviews criticise that so I'm not sure if I should get that lens for landscape photography in combination with the X-H1 ...

    • @NigelHarperPhoto
      @NigelHarperPhoto  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Patrick! It's a great versatile lens, ideal for travel, landscape or portrait photography. I've not noticed soft edges affecting any of my images. Of course all lenses are particularly zooms are softer at the edges than the middle when wide open. Although for most landscape photography one would normally stop down anyway. If it was that bad at the edges, I would have certainly said so! Cheers!

    Hi sir, how is the image stabilizer on 16-80 for vdo?

    • @NigelHarperPhoto
      @NigelHarperPhoto  4 года назад

      Hi Kuro, Well, it helps I guess, but in camera body stabilisation (IBIS) would make the most difference when filming. I've done very little video with this lens and my cameras are the XT3 and XT20. Cheers!

    • @AlainLafleche1
      @AlainLafleche1 4 года назад

      @@NigelHarperPhoto Hi Nigel, i heard that Xf16-80mm work better on the X-T3, it seems problematic with the X-H1... i think having 2 stabilization ( in the camera and the lens ) does not work well.... but ok with the X-T3.
