Why iPads Charge So Slow

- The iPad is one of Apple’s most popular products, but users often complain about how long it takes to charge compared to other Apple products like the iPhone and Apple Watch. There are a few reasons for this which I’ll explain in this video.
Наука
mAh is not that great for measurement for saying how much energy is in there as it's voltage dependent
Wh (watt-hour) would be better, the amount of energy of the MacBook is more than an iPad
yes, I was literally facepalming throughout this video while he claims that macbooks have smaller batteries than ipads...Its ridiculous how someone could even think of a device running full desktop os that lasts 10+ hrs and have battery inferior to ipads...
Absolutely right....
I was thinking exactly the same. This is often a big misunderstanding when talking about the power of a battery. Wh=Ah•V
this, mcbook pro m1 has double battery capacity of ipad
Yup you are right I explained it better in my comment
Because it has a massive battery. You're welcome.
naaaah no wayyy 😱
Its a THICC BATTERY

iPad actually charges with 30-33W maximum so it’s great to include a Mac charger but anyone can get away with 30W
The metric mAh makes no sense without Volts.
Why aren't you just giving us the Wh. That would make sense.
???
Exactly. He really should’ve done more research for this video. I couldn’t believe he thought the iPad’s battery was larger than the MacBook Air’s battery.

Still waiting for a native calculator on the iPad.
Me too :(
@fwdekutard it needs to. Just recently, I had to download a calculator app in order to multi-task in my math class. I wish Apple had one and made it the size of the MacOS calculator so I can easily use it whenever I need to
@fwdekutard I’m not asking for an entire app. Just make it similar to the one on MacOS, throw it in the control center and I would be fine.
@fwdekutard I mean yeah no shit. But one can only dream
@fwdekutard one can only hope then, like idk lol
I bought the iPad Air 3 1.5 years ago and I love it. I used it a lot for video conferences every day for several hours and now I feel that the battery isn't so good anymore. But it still lasts longer than I actually use it.
I will never understand why we decided mah was the best way to measure battery capacity... mWh or just Wh would be easier to understand to the average consumer.
Exactly. Without knowing the voltage, mAh is essentially useless for measuring battery capacity.
Because marketing teams said so
Congratulations on 1 Million! I love your short and straight-to-the-point videos!🖤
So, 2 questions result from that and I‘d love if you could cover their answers soon :)
1) since the newer MacBooks come with the same USBC as iPad Pro (I believe), could that be used instead?
2) I like to maintain battery health on my devices. What‘s best if I get a new one? Drain it down to 0 at the beginning or simply follow the 50-80% rule of thumb at all times? Should I drain it below 10% every once in a while and charge it back up to 100?
Follow the 30-80 rule for as long as you can. Never drain the battery. That’s a myth that no longer applies to these batteries. It does more damage than good
The 30-80 rule is incorrect. Lithium-ion batteries are the happiest if you keep them between 20-80% or 20-85%. It also degrades the battery significantly slower than it would if you drain the battery to 1 or 5% then charge it to 100% or even 90.
Congrats on the 1M subs! Been with you since the beginning. So well deserved ❤️

Get a higher wattage charger and make sure to use a Usb C to Usb C cable to charge for the new models. No outdated Usb A nonsense.
it wouldn’t work, as you can see, i got a USB type-C cable & a 30watts charger for my Android smartphone while also having an iPad Air 4(2020) which comes with a 20watts charger. i tried using my 33watts charger on my iPad Air 4 & guess what, it still charges slowly, it’s because its maximum power input of the iPad Air 4 is just 18watts and it only draws 18watts of power from my other 33watts USB type-C charger. Same for its 20watts charger, only draws 18watts of maximum power input. And USB type-C chargers nowadays are not always maximumly fixed in # of watts(let’s say, my 30watts charger), as i can see in my charger’s label, it can also charge at a minimum of 10watts, therefore 10-30watts. You know, Smartphone manufacturers should also include the info about the minimum charge rate from a charger.
i wasn’t aware that laptops charged off usb-a before
@@KokoJeuru This is because your charger doesn't support the profile which iPad needs. Buy a 65W PD charger (which has 15V, 3Amps profile, idk if it's same for Air, I have a Pro).
@@androidtv4764 Right. All my electronics charge an hour faster then stated because I use 40-65 watt chargers with usb power delivery and gan technology. And usb c to usb c cables.

I love this 4K video quality, thank you Greg!
my ipad literally takes a fucking entire day to charge and dies in four hours
Your battery might be damaged if it's like that
You have a bad battery in your iPad then
Or you must have had it for over 2 or 3 years. The battery doesn’t stay new for long. After some time it gets weaker to where it needs to be sent back to Apple and get changed. If not then I guess you could buy a new iPad when you’re able to.
Your iPad must be really old or the battery is damaged.
Yeah same with my iPad Air 4 and it’s 4 months old
How the hell does Greg manage to read my mind better than myself with every upload

I got my first iPad when the latest iPad Air was released and I’ve been well impressed with how fast it charges 😂
There are people that would understand immediately why a bigger device, with a bigger battery, takes more time to charge.
And then there's Apple customers, needing an explanation.
Mac battery is way bigger than iPad battery. You misunderstood how battery specs work. You were talking about the amphours, but capacity is watthours. That is Ah*V=Wh. The mac battery has a higher voltage, so the capacity is larger.
THIS
I have a 65w 735 anker charger, but when I carry the iPad Pro with it, the iPad gets very hot, something that doesn't happen with the MacBook Air. Is it normal? Or is it harmful? I've already researched but I haven't seen anything about
Can we use MacBook Air 30w charger to charge the iPads. Will it result in faster charging or there won’t be any significant difference.
Congrats on 1M Greg. 🥳

this whole video is very, very, very, misleading. by your metric, ipads have a bigger battery than the macbooks. what??? multiply current (mah) by voltage, and you get the watt-hours. that's an actual measurement of how big the battery is.
Can you do a video on the custom iPhone app appearances app
We use the iPad as a band mixer and need to do a lot of work each gig..power strip usb slots are not doing the trick as the unit loses power while charging. What amperage d I need to charge and use the unit?

*main issue that he didn't mention is when you lightning port is dirty it does contribute to how long your device charges even if you use a high wattage charging brick.*
I just discovered that MacBook battery are smaller than iPad's and some other smartphone's
I literally have no words that iPad 8 deposits 2 times more power than a macbook air
It isn’t. The battery voltage plays a big part in it’s capacity. The iPhone and iPad’s batteries operate at 3-4 volts while a MacBook Air operates at 11.4 volts. The mAh rating isn’t an Apples to Apples comparison if the voltages are different between batteries. Using watt hours is a better comparison metric :)
its literally not. that is blatantly false
@@Whiskeyj456 youd think an apple youtuber would understand this -_-
I remember joining you at 625k subs! Congratulations on gaining 1 million subscribers!
I thought the adapter that came with the Iphone 11 pro/pro max was 18W? Please confirm, cheers
Congrats on 1 million subscribers!!
I'm genuinely disappointed by the fact you're comparing the capacities of batteries without taking into account the voltage.
mAh describes how long the battery will last under given amperage, but we can't forget that amperage is not the only thing that contributes to the power delivery, because voltage also does. And while the peak voltage for the iPad is 4.2V, it is 13V for the MacBook Pro, for example, so that means that the MacBook battery has got 75% more juice and the comparison is unfair.
And the main reason MacBook charges faster because the default adapter that is shipped with Pro models is powerful enough, while the iPad Pro's get underpowered adapters in the box. The new iPad Pro should be able to take about 35W from the wall and so will charge faster when the powerful charger is used, while 13" MacBook takes about up to 50W.
Wait, why does my m1 macbook air outlast my m1 ipad pro then in therms of battery life(by a long shot) if they have the same processor and the iPad has a significantly larger battery?? I would have though iPad OS coming from IOS would be more efficient not less than Mac OS?
Congrats on 1 Million! :D
“And the 20w adapter included with iPhone”. Welp, iPhones don’t come with with an adapted anymore
Great video
Thanks Greg!
Can you explain why my iPad Pro (newest model) drains faster when charging my iPhone 12 Pro Max, compared to when I use my Macbook Pro M1
To make it more simple enough there is an analogy: You fill a small swimming pool with a hose, and it fills up fast like an iPhone battery because it’s small and fast but when you fill a large pool it will take you hours or even days to fills up like an iPad or some other larger electronic with a large battery because it’s big and it’s slow to charge because it’s just too big and the hose because it’s a lightning cable it’s just too slow
Wh is the correct battery capacity unit, not mAh
THIS. check other comments. this section is full of people now believing some phones have bigger batteries than the macbooks -_-
My iPad Pro actually charges pretty quickly (new, 2021). I can get a full charge in about 1 - 1.5 hours.
I got the more powerful charger separately from Apple and my iPad charges in just over one hour and a half. Fast charge to 80%, slow charge after. I let my battery drain to zero on occasion to reset it, in a way.
Isn’t slow charging better 4 battery life? My iPad 2 still with acceptable capacity and battery drain

thanks for the explanation i’ve searched this 2 days ago because one of my ipads charged slow
Suggestion, you should do a video on, "History of apple partners." Also, you should do a giveaway, or apple product unboxing/reviews. Have a nice day!
After using my iPad Pro for several years I have never complained about its slow charging, the battery last the whole day that the charging speed doesn’t matter.
Second, you can’t directly compare the Ampere hour figure if the battery operating voltage is different.
iPhone and iPad battery rated at 3.7V while the MacBook is rated at 11.1 V. If you want to compare them either convert it to the watt hour first or multiply the mAh figure of the MacBook by 3 to get the “equivalent mAh reading”.
0:28 did you say that the macbook only have double battery of the iphone? Wh is the right way to measure battery capacity
So could I charge my iPad with a 30 Watt MacBook charger or will this destroy the (battery of) the iPad?
You can you just have to check wether the output voltage of the mac book is 5v dc then you are good to go . It won't damage in any aspect until the volatge is 5v
Damn and I was thinking about getting an iPad. I can't use a device that takes forever to charge.

@@tychowerner oh yeah should be in Wh since the voltages are different
no it does not. thats not how batteries work. you think someone with one million subs would understand that
Part of the other reason why it takes so long to charge is because Apple hasn't become obsessed with fast charging. I notice one of Oppo's phones can be charged with a 65W charger and Xiamoi are apparently working on a phone that can be charged at 200W! Good luck keeping the battery in those devices healthy.

Apple: Well actually...no, but maybe I could give you *NOTHING* if you know what I mean ;)
I have had my fist iPad for a month or so now. iPad Pro gen 5. I have yet to notice a slow charge. Mostly due to the fact I charge it as I go to bed and even turn on air plain mode while doing so. My iPhone 11 seems to take about the same amount of time maybe longer as I usually charge my iPhone while watching RUclips or listening to music and it’s always connected to wifi or something always. But this video makes two points most people overlook. Battery size and use of device while charging are the most common things that lead ppl to think it takes longer and it’s true.
My advice. Charge when you go to bed. Also lower the brightness of the screen. Unless outdoors on a summer day you will never need it at max brightness.
Solution is to charge an iPad off the 30W charger. Or if you have one, use the 50w or 60w chargers for faster charging.
So why does the 11 inch M1 iPad Pro still die faster than the M1 MacBook Pro , when the battery is much bigger on the iPad? Does it consume more power? Because they both have the same CPU.

mAh is useless for battery capacity; watt-hours is the meaningful metric. The MacBook air has a larger, higher watt-hours battery than even the 12.9” iPad Pro. The 2018-2021 iPad Pro models can actually charge relatively fast (taking in a maximum of 30-35 watts while in standby, so all of that directly to the battery) with a higher-powered charger, but most people do not buy fast chargers for their iPad. Even with a fast charger, iPad models still charge much slower than a fast-charging iPhone, however.

yeah but why does the pro 12.9” lasts ~6hs but the pro 11” lasts ~6.5-7 hs?
I think you should have compared Wh and not mAh because the voltage could be different.
