  • There is certainly no shortage of niche truck suspensions in the aftermarket these days, each one designed for a certain type of customer. There are suspensions that can make your truck look like the ultimate desert racer. There are show truck suspensions that provide massive amounts of lift and eye-catching components. There are even truck suspensions that are designed purely for rock crawling. However, what about a well-engineered, properly tuned suspension system that is designed for the people who rely on their truck every day in the real world? What about all the people who want to install larger tires on their truck without sacrificing payload, ride quality or handling?
    This was the inspiration behind the AEV 3” DualSport Suspension System for the 2014+ Ram 2500/3500. We wanted to design the ultimate “real world” suspension system -one that allows greater performance off-road, while also improving driver comfort and vehicle handling characteristics on the road and maintaining the factory load carrying capacity. Dave Harriton goes into detail on why we created this suspension system and the benefits of using it.

    Dave, great video and explanation. I love my AEV lifted Power Wagon. AEV should send a RAM truck to TFL truck (The Fast Lane Truck on RUclips) for a review. I watch their channel all of the time. A review through them would showcase how wonderful an AEV RAM is to use for normal operations i.e. regular use towing, moderate Colorado off road trails, and around town. They are great daily use trucks with extreme latent capabilities...if the need were to arise.

How does the upgrades affect fuel use, oil and gear ratio. And I'm not sure why you kept mentioning all the spring variables....?

    • @AmericanExpeditionVehicles
      @AmericanExpeditionVehicles  6 лет назад +3

      The Ram HD DualSport Suspension fits 2014+ 2500/3500. The fuel use on a Hemi will suffer due to large tire size and other factors but the diesel only takes a small if not barely noticeable hit. We have gotten up to 16.5MPG with the Prospector XL on our Arctic trip. The reasons the springs are mentioned so often is Ram designed them specifically for each cab/wheelbase/engine setup. It would be expensive to match every spring setup with every combination in the aftermarket. If we offered just one spring, ride quality would vary across the board however with us choosing to opt for a more expensive aluminum spring relocater, you maintain all the payload and towing capacity from the factory, improve ride quality and steering while lifting your truck. Usually people assume when lifting a truck, all of that suffers but that is not the case with the way we engineer our suspensions.

  • @kevinp5325
    @kevinp5325 6 лет назад +2

    Question for AEV: What has been your experience with the OEM radius arms? Are they durable enough to handle tough 4wd roads and tracks?
    A lot of people have claimed that the stock radius arms on these newer Ram trucks are inadequate for hard, technical driving on terrain which requires significant axle articulation (something to do with the radius arm bushings lacking flex which in turn causes the axle tube and housing to deform or even break).
    I noticed during this video that the radius arms were moved somewhat (via a bracket I assume) but otherwise were left stock.

  • @Jordan91alexander
    @Jordan91alexander 5 лет назад +4

    Difference between this lift and another lift with new springs is going to be articulation. Sure it's a 3 inch lift but it's only going to flex like a stock truck

    • @AmericanExpeditionVehicles
      @AmericanExpeditionVehicles  5 лет назад +13

      Articulation is one aspect to consider, but we retain the OE coil springs more for ride quality, towing and load carrying capacity. The OE has over 30+ different coil spring combinations, so there is no way we could engineer 30+ lift spring combinations. We feel that this method provides the best compromise between off-road performance and on-road comfort/driveability.

    • @Jordan91alexander
      @Jordan91alexander 5 лет назад +6

      American Expedition Vehicles
      Yeah no it's an amazing product. I could see in some aspects with the added lift and bigger tires you wont need the extra articulation anyways. Its definitely a nice lift.

But yes any modifications like 40's, bumpers, winches, should be subtracted from GVWR.

      You would lose nothing. They only use 2" blocks in the rear so the suspension stays the same. I have a 2018 AEV built Prospector with 37's and I tow a 38' toyhauler with it. I added airbags just for the pin weight of the camper.

    Can you built this kit for a 2004 Ram 2500 5.9L? I already know you don’t offer it now so don’t waste my time by telling me the year models that you serve currently... I’m not asking that. I’m asking you if you can get your hands on a Gen 3 Cummins 2500 and build me custom lift brackets like this kit you have in the video? I will pay for your time. My 2004 2500 Cummins is and has always been my dream truck (2nd time owner of Gen 3). I need the 40’s for mountain hunting.

    Is that 2500 a diesel or 6.4 Hemi? Will this lift work with the diesel?

    • @AmericanExpeditionVehicles
      @AmericanExpeditionVehicles  6 лет назад +1

      This is a diesel. We only do the 40" tires on diesels and the 37"s on gas or diesel. The lift works with either engine and you maintain factory payload and towing capacity.

  • @edwardballow2268
    @edwardballow2268 6 лет назад

    A lot of thought has gone into this and from the description all towing / hauling specs remain the same? So assume ride quality will not change, won't ride any softer all things being equal on same wheels and tires. I don't want to put 40's on my truck, probably won't put 37's but will put 35's X 12.5 on. Is this lift overkill for that? Or should I just find a good leveling kit that swaps front springs and swap the OEM shocks for the 5100"s.

    • @AmericanExpeditionVehicles
      @AmericanExpeditionVehicles  6 лет назад

      You will overall experience better ride quality with this lift. You won't sacrifice towing or payload at all with 35"s. That is a great setup. With only being 3" of lift, 35s will not look out of place at all. Overall you will have a better riding truck with this upgrade versus just a leveing kit and shock swap. Our shocks and springs are tuned specifically for HD Ram trucks on this lift.

      Can you get 37's on it without any trimming? I see that 40's require different wheel wells.

    • @AmericanExpeditionVehicles
      @AmericanExpeditionVehicles  6 лет назад

      Of course. Not shown in the video but we also have the Prospector builds which are on 37s with 17x8.5 AEV Salta HD wheels. If you run our bumper you will not need to trim however if you keep the stock bumper, minor trimming would be required. For best fitment and finish, we do not recommend running 37s with the HighMark Fender Flares installed.

    • @AmericanExpeditionVehicles

      You can keep the stock bumper. No new bumper is needed for the lift kit but if you plan to run bigger tires you will need to trim part of the bumper to have no rubbing.

      @tdbyford 6 лет назад

      That's not what I was told by anyone selling them, that's why I have a BDS 4" system on mine. I wanted the least amount of lift for 37s and this was my number one choice hands down. I got the rear air suspension on my 2500 because it would self-level when I loaded/unloaded snowmobiles with my sled deck only to be told by EVERY SINGLE SELLER/INSTALLER I spoke to that the air suspension was not supported because it was "unpredictable in off-road situations".

BTW function over form first, and using vehicle i.e. Taking a Mustang to the track or Wrangler to the trails is great, if not there are much more suitable vehicles for everyday use. One would probably need two vehicles as mud/scratches or roll cages/racing seats aren't acceptable characteristics of many people's daily driver.
