Thank you so much Dr Adu for the step by step tutorial. I've learnt alot from these two videos and I can't wait to watch part three tomorrow. I'm very grateful for your help.
Philip--you cannot know how much I wish you had been one of my professors!! So glad I accidentally stumbled upon your series!!! Finishing a qualitative dissertation and using all this to assist. You ROCK!
Very good video for newbies! Pro Adu keeps amusing us by saying SPSS when he actually meant Nvivo, and saying research questions when he meant interview questions ;) And I like the way Pro says "All...". Informative and interesting! Thank you so much
It is so so so helpful to me especially when I have zero experience in working with nVivo. However, there is only one comment that I would like to bring to your attention. There are some hearing impaired researchers who may want to use this software. It would be great if you can enable "auto subtitling" feature for them to understand your lecture. For your consideration, please.
Thank you Adrian! We tried to enable the 'auto subtitling' but the transcription wasn't totally accurate. We'll go through and edit it and make it public. Thanks for watching.
Very nice video. Was very helpful. It gave me a good introduction to how to use the software. I will be using it for the analysis of the data of my PhD research. I also watched the part 1. Will watch the part 3 also.
Thank you for making these videos. They really helped. I was wondering if you had released the third part?, you talked about presenting ones findings. Thanks again!
You're welcome Chinenye! I'm glad it was helpful! The webinars are organized for students at our institution and past the recording on this RUclips channel - making them public.
Thank you so much for this video. But I have a question, how can we apply Nvivo in developing codes or knowing themes in a focus group discussion? Is there a video for this? Thank you very much.
Dr Philip, thank you very much for videos how to use and analyse data in NVivo11. I wanted to ask you, how can we analyse data which is provided in Excel? In these videos is described for Word files.
Dear Prof.Adu, One of my source has 20 nodes and then I creates a source case to use for a purpose of using framework matrice. However, after running matrice using source case as 'row' and nodes as "column", my framework matrice shows nothing on each column. Before I deleted the old source case, framework matric shows some content on each column according to coding in nodes. Your advice is much appreciated.
Thanks for the video Philip! I just have a question for you. I'm currently working on a qualitative research project for my Honours thesis where I'll use NVivo to extract themes from interviews. I see that you've created a table matrix (11:17), does this then become classified as quantitative analysis once you summarise the info in this form?? Or would you still call it qualitative? Thank you, Melodi
Hi Melodi, it is still a qualitative analysis. After the analysis, you could create a matrix (which could be considered as a quantitative display of qualitative findings). My new book, A Step-by-Step Guide to Qualitative Data Coding provides more information about this (see: www.routledge.com/A-Step-by-Step-Guide-to-Qualitative-Data-Coding-1st-Edition/Adu/p/book/9781351044516).
If I import each question and response as its own dataset, I can use autocode for sentiment analysis. Do you know if the sentiment analysis in nvivo works uses a generative (Naive Bayes) or discriminative model for classification?
thanku so much for such a great effort. really helpful. but i am stuck at autocoding, when i did it my self several nodes formed of the same questions. can u please help..
You're welcome! It could be how the headings in the word document were formatted. Alternatively, you could avoid conducting autocoding by following the steps in this presentation: ruclips.net/video/Xg4KlOYPOQ8/видео.html

Wow I'm so glad I came across this videos. Thank you so much Dr Adu for this step by step lessons. You are such a great teacher.
You're welcome Dina! Thank you for your kind words :)
Philip
Very helpful. New to NVivo but am picking up. Figuring out how it can help me analyse institutions
I'm glad it is helpful to you!

Hahaha :) this is what happens when you just finished speaking with students about SPSS and research questions :)
Hi Philip - thanks for posting these videos - great combination of step-by-step and conceptual information.
Thank you Kathleen!
Best!
Philip Adu
Thank you so much. I had no idea what to do just a week ago, but I have learnt quite a lot and things are looking up.
You're welcome Olubunmi! I'm glad the presentation was helpful!
