    Many thanks, it worked!
Note for anyone using ASUS Chromebox 3 (CN65) TEEMO: As per the mrchromebox supported device table it requires both screw and CR50, however the CR50 steps can and should be omitted. Otherwise, by following the CR50 steps you might get into trouble as it happened to me and end up stuck without being able to open the dev console anymore (with ctrl+alt+f2) after using the "sudo gsctool -a -o" command. The solution for this is Turning ON the OS verification again (which will wipe the data) then turn it OFF once again and start from scratch, which will allow you to open the dev console again. Omit the CR50 steps and just follow this video.

If you see this, can you tell me how it's worked out? I have the same device, and am thinking of doing the same as you. Does it run fine once it's installed, or is there some post-installation work to do? Would you say it runs as smooth or better than on ChromOS? I've used Mr. Chromebox's tricks to install PopOS on an EOL Chromebook, I'm a big fan of his work.

You are the man !! Thank you ! I received a notice my chromebook (Acer 15 CB3-532) would no longer receive security updates after June. This thing is like new and I still get over 6 hours from the battery with max brightness. I am very experienced with Linux, but was having difficulty after installing a Legacy bios. I am so happy I came across your video ! The UEFI bios was the solution, and makes for a much cleaner install. I now have Linux Mint 20.3 xfce installed, and with the exception of no sound, everything was working perfect. The sound issue was resolved in about 10 minutes after a google search. Needed to replace the alsa driver script, log out and back in and it now works. The only issue is the 16gb eMMC, which is not easily replaceable on this model. Because of that, I permanently installed a tiny 32gb usb flash drive which I made my /home partition. After dedicating 500mb for the EFI bios, 2gb to swap, the install and all updates, and adding Dropbox only, I have 4.4gb free on the eMMc. I have been using the system for several hours now and it is completely stable. F Google. Thanks again !

    Just a side note:
In my case (Asus Chromebox 2 CN62) after performing all the steps, my keyboard didn't seem to work. I panicked 1st as I used my rapoo wireless keyboard which is my daily device. I tried a Jelly Comb but nothing. And then weirdly a rapoo wireless airmouse+keyboard worked. So what I wanted to say is that if the keyboard doesn't work, try another one or another one. @danimationstips  3 года назад

@@codyq6245 Okay, so here's what MrChromebox had to say in response:
"This is pretty standard for devices which are enrolled/managed, either educational or corporate. The "correct" way to do it is to have the managing/owning entity de-enroll the device. In practice that's often not possible, for a variety of reasons. On older (pre-2017) devices, simply flashing the firmware directly (using a USB programmer, treating the device as if it were bricked) is the easiest solution. On 2017+ devices with the CR50/Google Security Chip, this is often not possible, and nothing to my knowledge can be done in that case."
I looked up the CXI3, and your Chromebox uses the CR50 write protection as well as the screw, so you might not be able to de-google your device afterall, I'm sorry to say. The only way forward may be to get the access information you need to unlock the device from its previous owner.

Yes Sean, the process and principles are the same regardless of which operating system you want to install.
Before you install Cloud Ready, I recommend you make sure your SSD has a capacity greater than 16GB. Many Chromeboxes only have 16GB storage inside and for Cloud Ready, it's a good idea to switch to 32GB or more.
You can pick up a suitable SSD via eBay using the affiliate links in my video description if you'd like to help support this channel.
      Good luck with your upgrade.

@@jtltrading2899 Choosing your operating system really depends on what you plan to do with your computer. CloudReady seems to be a good choice if you want easy access to Google services and you want to collaborate with people who use ChromeOS devices. For example, there are some Linux distributions that are geared towards use as media servers and other specialty purposes. Ubuntu is a good, accessible all-rounder and a good substitute for Windows or MacOS. GalliumOS is the best choice for Chromebooks, as their soundcards are not supported by some Windows versions and some other Linux distros.
