There's a chance that your audio might not work after you do this. You may need to do some research to find out what audio chipset you have and then manually install the drivers for that chipset. No one here is going to tell you what drivers you need since there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of possibilities here. Google is your friend.
Excellent video, thanks for sharing! I ran into an issue where I received the message of "booting from 'eMMC device' failed chromebook". If you run into this issue, the only thing you need to do are perform the steps listed below: 1. Hit the 'esc' key and return to command line 2. Type 'exit' and hit the 'enter' key 3. Navigate through the menu and change the boot order in order to have your device boot first 4. Save configuration and reboot
Another way to transfer your ROMs over is to plug in your hard drive or USB stick that has your ROMs into the chromebook then press F1 then from there just copy and paste!
On the install batocera to a new disk i could never figure out why it crashed on me but now know you have to be connected to internet. I had to mess about booting up from usb windows to then use a windows program to clone batocera to the internal ssd lol
Well... There is a fix. It requires you finding out what your audio chipset it, finding the drivers for it online, and then installing said driver on your system.
Can someone tell me if the chromebox with its i7 (CN60 Model) is capable of handling all the available retro systems better than my super old mac mini 2009? The Chromebox CN60 will have an i7 chip along with 8 gigs of ram.
My Acer C720p does not allow booting from SD, but why not Just leave Batocera on a Bootable USB? it does NOT need to be installed... you can LIVE boot it every time from USB...just add ROMS to the games in their folders and thats it!
hi , could you suggest me a good fronted to use with chromebook to make my life easier? i tried some standalone emulator but it seems my lenovo can't access some folders to read bios and roms
Would be nice to know how to configurate Batocera too to make some emulation better. I have tried out some N64 and playstation games and they are a bit choppy. When i have turned off overlay it improves the speed but not sure what else to make it run better.
Might have to look into that. I pulled up Majora's Mask on the N64 the other day and it ran super smooth. What games do you have trouble with? If I can replicate the issue, I might be able to help.
@@DBTechYT It was GoldenEye 007 but that game probably is one of the hardest to emulate lol. A guy whos channel is ETA PRIME showed him playing dreamcast on a HP Chromebox but he was running lakka, mine is a Dell but the same specs, must be possible to push more out of these chromebooks/boxes
I think the only way to do that is with a system that has a processor that can be overclocked. I know that you can do that on some RaspberryPi boards, but I'm not sure if any of the Chromebooks out there have overclockable processors. In Batocera, if you open up the Main Menu, and then go to "Games Settings" and then into "Advanced" you can go into each of the game systems and choose the emulation you want. There are a couple of options: Libretro and Mupen64Plus. It might be worth looking into those settings and seeing if one emulator performs better for you than the other.
Hi I have a rg35xx I've downloaded batocera on to my sd card . But when I go to transfer roms I get an error message saying "copy operation failed. The file could not be modified". I'm using a chromebook on chrome os . Could you help please . I'm really stuck thanks
Is there a way to do something similar on a non Intel-based (HP 14 G3 Tegra K1) chromebook? I was hoping to get Batocera or LaunchBox on my chromebook.
How to boot from a USB stick on a Chromebook? I installed the stick the same way. Everything works on a Windows computer, but on the Chromebook it doesn't start from the USB stick
I found this because I had the same idea and wanted to see if others had any issues or if there is suggested hardware, since I can pick up Chromebooks new for $90 all day, every day. Care to share the specs of your Chromebook?
I'm stuck. I've done everything up until putting Batocera onto the chromebook. I keep getting AN ERROR OCCURRED: check the system/logs directory. I've restarted the book and still nothing.
Frustrated. Did this on an old windows laptop and can't get the WiFi to work. Tried it in two separate Chromebooks and can't get the sound to work in either one.
What? Batocera is an operating system. You could plug it in and run it as a live USB drive and run Batocera without installing it and removing Windows.
Yep. I do. I don't have any interest in ParrotOS, but here's this: Download the ParrotOS ISO here: www.parrotsec.org/download-home.php Create a bootable USB using either of these methods: ruclips.net/video/TF5ekU9ZkQQ/видео.html (WINDOWS) ruclips.net/video/UAAcQVJxfPk/видео.html (ChromeOS) Follow the steps in this video to modify your BIOS: ruclips.net/video/MK8-cBJw6wg/видео.html Plug the ParrotOS USB in and reboot your Chromebook. Follow the installation prompts. That's it.
It's good tutorial but its way faster to transfer from hdd thats what i do as my roms are on exr hdd just press f1 to go in to system to transfer files like bios roms and so on
There is a difference between telling us what you did, and teaching / communicating with someone else to show them. It would be nice if these tutorials were actually tutorials. Think about the terminology you use, and how fast you go. Speeding through and using terminology that is not colloquial will just turn people away.

you'll need to figure out which audio chipset you have and then install the appropriate linux drivers for it
Can you still use chrome OS after installing this?
No. This removes ChromeOS, but you can go back later if you want.

As far as a controller how a Nintendo switch usb controller would work for games I would think
Could you do a speed test of batocera vs windows? I have a feeling batocera has better speed but there’s no info about this
How would you see that happening? Via what testing methods?

change the resolution of the core. Thats how I got n64 games to run better. 800 X 400 or something like that increased speed dramatically.

Everything works on a Windows computer, but on the Chromebook it doesn't start from the USB stick
so can i delete the doom thing from main menu? like i want certain emulators to show
Only emulators with ROMs in them will show, so if there are any emulators you don't want to show, then remove the ROMs from their respective folders

I don't know. I didn't try.
If you got copyright strike for playing games there would be no such thing as RUclips or twitch
Nintendo used to be notorious for taking down videos with their games in them
i would do this but i actually need my chromebook massive L for me
Something to think about when your chromebook hits end of life for support maybe? :)
I am not a fan of how bad Batocera runs. Sega Genesis runs so choppy. The picture quality is bad. There's no brightness control. I don't use it.
I think that's an issue with your hardware more than the OS.
