Fantastic video, Jon. The music on landing at Newhall Mains was the type of music one would expect when a Spitfire or Hurricane returns to home base after air combat over mainland Europe.
An absolute dream and a privilege to be able to fly off to somewhere like this. More so off your own steam. Fanbloodytastic!!! Amazing video Jon 👍
Definitely on my bucketlist now!!
Always look forward to Your Vids Hello from Canada
Great to see the homeland represented 🏴🏴
Och aye.
Metal Mickey ha ha - that’s a blast from the past - great video as always
Many thanks for this video as always Jon. It inspired us to visit Newhall Mains. What a wonderful place with such friendly staff. It was great having an airfield next to your accommodation and no hassle with airport closing times. We’ll definitely be returning there.
Excellent video Jon, loved the drone work aswell and looks like an amazing place to visit. Good to see Alistair too.
This is next level stuff Jon - wow! What a fantastic film and that destination looks amazing. I hope they accept helicopters as I think Lizi would love that. Fabulous shots with the drone as you landed too. 👌👍
Thanks Mate. I can't see why helis couldn't go in there at all. Hope you make it up there one day.
Another great production, Jon and wow - those drone shots! GA needs more destinations like this. Keep hunting , if you'll pardon the pun :)
The addition of drone footage now takes your videos to a whole new level. Great video Jon. And wow what a lovely destination. I’ve added it to my list.
Thanks Simon.
Great to see you flying up in my neck of the woods! This is exactly what we be promoting more of in Scotland. One of the big areas we are lacking in aerial tourism is fuel facilities. Especially out to the islands and highlands. Used to be a lot more options but now the only places for fuel really are Inverness and Prestwick. Oban used to be a good gateway, but they lost their fuel capability and are struggling to get it back. Makes it difficult for people like yourself flying up from England. I'm glad you've shot this video though, it will no doubt encourage some more people to fly up here and help local economies.
Fantastic stuff Jon! You are definitely giving Sky documentary's a run for their money with your filming and editing! Lovely bit of airmanship doing a Top Gun flyby before committing to a full stop landing.
Just one word: WOW. Thanks, Jon for sharing the info.
What a beautiful part of the world that is. Is always great watching your videos. Thank you and safe flying. 🌈
Scotland is simply stunning. Our favourite family holiday was touring the highlands having flown into Inverness from London. Great country and people.
Couldn't agree more.
Lovely video. Great shot of the barley wafting in your wake on landing. Look forward to the next part.
Flying aside (you already know I’m a fan of that bit), the quality of the video...as a production...is bloody brilliant. Obviously you have the skills to put these together and present wonderfully too, but it’s still easy to cut corners in an edit somewhere or lose interest in a piece and you never do! Marvellous!!
Thanks Ben. You know it takes time and effort, but it's worth it.
Great video. Really enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next instalment.
Looks like a stunning place John thanks for the heads up , I’m Prestwick based so will certainly be taking the mrs for a weekend away , what a lovely addition to the great airfields we already have .
Thanks James. If you visit, let them know I sent you!
@@TheFlyingReporter wilco john only an hour away so will hopefully visit with the Mrs in 2021 .
Hi Jon - what a lovely video. Editing was superb, up there with the best without a doubt. Will have to put this on my list, it is almost like GA was invented for this sort of thing. Well done! All the best. Steven.
Lovely video Jon, Newhall Mains looks the a perfect pilot retreat! Looking forward to your next Scottish adventure 👌👍
Thanks Kevin.
Looks stunning Jon - definitely a place I'd like to visit, thanks for filming this and love the drone footage - your production quality is very high.
Thanks Jason.
This is on my list for when I pass my PPL - absolutely stunning looking place and a great way to introduce my wife to my flying with a nice night away!
Absolutely. I said to myself, if this place is around in a few years, it's my mission to fly there for a few nights.
Visited Scotland soo many times, even Black Isle, but this beautiful quiet place must be heaven. Thank you John, for sharing this fine experience ! Sunny greetings from EBAW 😉
Thank you Jan. And the sun is indeed shining this week!
One of your best yet! Loved the drone footage, and amazing destination.
Thanks David.
Fantastic Jon!
Hi Jon, great to see the Scottish Highlands and particularly nice to see you making the trip with Alastair, as he always brings a sense of fun to your flights. I still recall the Jersey flight the two of you made together and your surprise when he told you he had never visited the island before.
Alastair is the most perfect cockpit companion.
Brilliant video, and some really good shots of Dundee (my home) were great to see. Stunning location, and looks like the weather played along too!
Yes John, the weather worked out in the end.
What an excellent Vlog Jon.
Scotland has a number of very good venues for PPLs. If you're going to be doing the Great Glen, don't forget to go to Mull (Glenforsa) where you can stay in an hotel right next to the airstrip. And don't let's forget the beach landing at Barra followed by a flight over to Oban where, if you speak nicely to the Fire Station, they may let you rinse the salt off with their hoses!!
I'm just getting my Arrow (G-TSGA) repainted right now, but when its finished, I'm tempted to celebrate the paint job by following your lead and flying up to Newhall Mains for a couple of nights.
Great video Jon thanks. And nice to see Alastair back again!
It was good to catch up in the cockpit again.
Another great video Jon.I can vouch for the beauty of the scenery having been Perth(Scone) based in the late 1990's
whilst doing my ATPL theory.
Hopefully i will be back in the air mid september for the SEP land renewal now, up in Coventry.
Cannot wait, little PA-28 140 with the roof trimmer.G-BAHF i think is the reg.
Thanks Sean. Good luck with the renewal.
Such a great trip Jon!
It’s a dream to visit Scotland one day! I’m going to check out the accommodation for sure! 😍
Tell them I sent you, if you go!
Superb. Added to the list , cheers.
I always love watching your videos Jon, but this is the first time that I can honestly say you've advertised the perfect product for me! I can see me making a booking very soon for a break with my partner. My family originate from the area, and I can think of no better place to discover the area from.
Such a beautiful part of the country. World class scenery from Inverness all the way to Orkney. As it happens I am on hols on that coast right now ☺😎 Thank you, Jon, for another lovely vid.
What an amazing place to be able to fly to and stay
Fantastic video, those drone shots of the landing were great!
Thanks Sean.
Looks fantastic !! Beautiful accommodation and a great strip
Thanks David. It's a great place to visit.
@@TheFlyingReporter It's a pretty straight run County Galway, Derry, Oban and then up the Caledonian canal but I think I'd want an excellent run of weather to try it!!
You need your own TV show...your production skills are top notch. Such an amazing channel.
I always enjoy the 'adventure' flights. I see you've had a voice activated autopilot fitted too! Those shots of you arriving at the end were beautiful.
Thanks Tom.
Fabulous insight...
Great photography Jon
Probably your best video yet, what a place to flying into, a dream place, couple of things, firstly you must be peeved off as there are an awful lot of your plans that get scuppered.......... Secondly has anyone done a flight into Saumur [Air Club], great place to visit, lovely town, some nice shops to purchase the odd 'bottle of grapes' as it is the Loire Valley and the French Tank Museum is there, great 'bloke' museum.
Beautiful scenery! Seriously long trip notwithstanding the stop in Norwich. Not sure my bladder would have lasted the second leg haha
Great stuff, Jon. Your editing and production are superb as usual, with the bonus of the drone shots. I thought it was Flight Sim for a second, until I saw the drone operator! 👍🏻
Thanks Steve. I know, they look almost unreal.
That looks like a wonderful trip very unusual in the U.K. to have something as good as that on an airstrip
You just got yourself a new subscriber, Captain!
Thanks for flying with me.
Incredible place. And the rates are suprisingly reasonable.
What a wonderful video and destination , however ,you do realise you have just cost me a load of money . I can guarantee when my wife sees this video she will be putting this beautiful destination on her “ to do “ list the next time we are in the UK . Cheers and best wishes Jon .
Glad to hear Dave and the guys at Air Anglia helped you out
Yes, they were most helpful.
Looking good.
Amazing video, and Awesome Accommodation 👍👏
Thanks for your support Stewart, as always.
Great video!
Brilliant vlog look forward to my future flying adventures. PPL about to start
Good luck with the training.
Just started out wanting to learn to fly. I penned to start in about 8 years but watching these videos has me hooked already. Will learn at EGBJ hopefully. For now, plenty of watching great vids like this, sim time, coffee, and learning the principles.
That's some pretty forward planning. Good luck with the training, when you get to it.
@@TheFlyingReporter Thank you! I'm 2 and a half years into my teaching career so I'm eager to get that going first. See you in the skies!
Excellent airfield excellent place excellent ✈️ flight thank you for sharing experiences & I should do this flight thank you 🙏
Pleasure! Thanks for watching.
Thanks Jon for another great video. Will try to make the same trip sometime. Was there a bit of a tailwind on landing 😊
Will definitely have to go there!
You must Paul. Tell them I sent you.
Great video Jon - next time you pop in to Norwich give me a shout I’ll meet ya for a cuppa if I am on leave.
Great video Brilliant Camerawork (and I am a retired Broadcast TV cameraman) Looked a fantastic place and most envious, You might also want to try HMS OWL not far from Ewans place...best B and B I have ever stayed at, in the old RAF fleet air arm base, Tain , in Fearns old Control Tower in a luxury bedroom....plus you have the private airfield in walking distance... That would be two outstanding places to stay both with airfield... wow! Thank 's for the great video
Thanks Al. Yes, I did see that B&B when I popped into Easter. Another great place to stay by the looks of it.
The Flying Reporter I like your flying videos... Re HMS Owl. It was a really brilliant experience to stay in the old control tower with the best breakfast I have ever had. Wonderful hostess. Also Glen Forsa hotel Mull is a place I would love to stay at if I had an aircraft. Thanks al
Great video as always. I’ve just booked a weekend on the strength of it. I fly up in a couple of weeks time.
Please tell them I sent you. That's ace.
The Flying Reporter Absolutely.
Going by this, you should try Glenforsa airfield on the Isle of Mull. There is a hotel attached with stunning views across the Sound of Mull. I’m a little envious, Jon
Thanks. I'd like to go there one day.
Stunning location Jon and an interesting flight video. Drone shots were brilliant. I will check out the accommodation with interest but as you know I am restricted to VFR only.
You can do it VFR. Our flight was VFR, with a risk of an IFR bit. If you plan it right it can be done.
The Flying Reporter - Thanks Jon. I am glad you had a good trip up there. With the uncertainty of our weather I was just thinking of my lapsed IMC (and my instrument panel) Looking forward to the video of your flights with Nigel. Did you fly over Nayland? Nigel often appears overhead!
My goodness what an absolutely brilliant idea, I wonder if he lets microlights land there Jon?
Imagine doing the trip in Zulu Romeo ;-}
I was in Islay / Orkney last week, coincidentally. Terrible weather when I got back to Blackbushe 8-O
Would have been nice.
Thanks Great Vid...I'm subscribed...look forward to the next one and seeing you at EGMJ (straight and level flight strictly forbidden)
Looks like a very nice destination Jon. Well done with the drone footage on landing. I thought you were flying an Archer with RG now? Did you go back to good old Oscar Romeo?
Mmmm.... mulling over a fly-in and a wedding combo...
We’ve been talking of a wedding for 20 years but have never got round to it!! This seems an amazing way to do it.
If you do. Make sure I get an invite!!! great place there.
We’d be doing it on the quiet, so I’m sure we could bring you and your husband in for witnesses :-)
Hope you don't mind me butting in .....You have no excuse now! Perfect for a select few to celebrate with you. We took 16 years to bite the bullet but we had a magical day at our 'off beat' wedding. Very best wishes, AF
Wow, what a fantastic place, you would have been ready for a good place to stay after all the delays. Pity the UK has not more of these.
Glad you liked the trip Mikey.
on my list to visit and stay a few nights
Please tell them you saw it on The Flying Reporter!
The Flying Reporter wilco
Would have been interesting to know what you thought the engine problem was.
Great video! Out of interest what was the issue in Norwich? I rejected a club plane before a student solo flight (saw some oil spattered inside engine bay). Turned out to be an oil hose that could have come loose completely.... Will bear Newhall Mains in mind for a future trip :)
You should go to Newhall Mains. It's idyllic.
Curious about why you are using the carb heat on the PA28 in a normal landing config? I only see it for emergency procedure?
Hi Jon, runway looks pretty damp...!
Only very slightly.
Well that's just beautiful! I'm definitely in your camp of wanting destinations rather than a burger. Out of interest for my own learning, why did you stop at Norwich anyway? Seems too close for a first fuel stop and still quite far to the destination?
We departed at 0730-0800 BST, and it was the only place answering the phone.
@@TheFlyingReporter haha fair enough! Great video 👍
may i ask why you use fish eye lenses?
What a beautiful place to fly to. Why did you land at Norwich on route? Fuel ?
Yes Fuel.
Did you get FS 2020??
Bloody hell this is one of your best Great to see Alister with you The more I see the more I want a PPL I am a car nut and LOve sorts cars I own a XK Jag and i have done long europen road trips for years I am coming to a point where I need to change cars and I am Looking at Aston Martin or do I go for another Jag Ftype at half the price and learn to fly If there was more accommodation like this I think flying is the way forward with another Jag
I am like you I just dont want to fly to and airfield I want to fly to see other places Do you know if there is a Travel Directory for Pilots keep up the great work and thank you both keep safe
x
Thanks!. It's mostly word of mouth about these places.
Good video but, you showed great clips of scenery. Why don't you say where they are?
Hi John I've recently subscribed to your channel, it makes interesting viewing. I've just bought a Cirrus SR22T GTS Perspective G5 and your'e welcome to take a look and have a flight in it if you're interested. I also own a Eurocopter EC120 and the same offer applies. I think you're based at Blackbushe and I'm regularly there so happy to say hello if you're about. Just a quick question on this video. I noticed you changed your route from intially planning to fly up the west coast through my neck of the woods (Manchester/Liverpool) but didn't due wx. I'm just wondering why you didn't go IFR and excercise your IR(R) priveleges. Just curious......
Hi Joel. Drop me an email if you can and we can chat some more. Contact me through my website at jonhunt.net. I think the weather was below my minima, or very close to it, so we had to head east.
@@TheFlyingReporter e-mail sent....
Why do you keep your electric fuel pump on in cruise?
I don't. Unless over water/dangerous terrain potentially.
Why are you in OR where is the aircraft with the retractable wheels?
Owing to the threat of redundancy, I'm back flying OR for the time being.
The Flying Reporter BBC making someone redundant. I hope not. Keeping fingers crossed for you. Blasted COVID-19!!
Why Norwich? You could have stopped at Beverley for fuel, breakfast and a cupper!
Departed 0745 am.
The search for Boris Johnson's tent
Where is the Airfield?
I mean the first one
Norwich airport are a disgrace at current, NOTAMed operating hours and reality are two completely different things!
Great video as always
Thanks Jonathan.
Any body know what the airfield is called ??
What a great spot! I’ll be taking the other half there ;-)
It's great. Please tell them you saw it on The Flying Reporter!
