- In today’s quick video I review and present my thoughts on the Donaldson Pre-Cleaner snorkel attachment and show just how much it’s collected in the last 10000km’s.
I’m sure you will be just as surprised as me to see just how much this cheap and simple attachment catches.

Donaldson Pre-Cleaner H000858 inlet 4" or 102mm

Your videos and the way you present facts and not opinions is fantastic definitely will be passing your channels on to all my constituents
Awesome thanks mate. Glad you are enjoying the channel.
Cheers, Nathan.
3 years later, you still on team pre cleaner?
Function over Beauty ?! For sure the big pot looks not schmink! And is not for city or open highway driving. But leaving the blacktop behind this is the go to protect your airfilter from big dust, flying insect critter, leaves and also heavy rain. Best investment you can make for around 100.- AUD in comparison to a dinner for 2 and a sock over your snorkel. Remember normal car air filter have no safety cartridge installed after main air filter. In our crushing and mining industry runs HD top spin pre cleaner which are way more effective and even with daily cleaning the air filter last not one week replacement Intervalls. That said, my pre cleaner rest packed cleaned in the rear wing of my 200series and comes out when the blacktop ends and fixed during tire pressure adjustments and vice versa on the way home. I hope to convince more people to get one while going bush! And NO I am not affiliated with any filter supplier ! We repair HD machinery and big Diesel engines with big bills on weekly base. Save traveling in future. Cheers..
Yeah, for sure mate. They are not pretty, but anything that helps reducing dust into the engine I’ll stick on!
Same here, not affiliated with these products, but definitely recommend them to those who are travelling off-road 👍
Go Donaldson TOP SPIN. More compact, housing can be choose from UV /impact resistant plastic or HD series metal ones.
@@enterBJ40 thanks for info update.
I prefer The fvpc 858 non moving parts system over the ts2394 with impeller and bearings.
Donaldson TS And TS HD failed miserably in one of our HD application’s after 3-6 weeks the bearings was stuck and On the HD version the rivets and internals broke, we lost over 50 pre cleaner in very short time. Replaced all by turbo II and since 9 month no more any failure. Cheers
I suppose pear harvesting tractors in Finland use these, yet still need frequent air filter cleaning (blowing and washing).
What is the width of it? It should go over the snorkel or inside the snorkel while fitting?
Can you make installation vide
Good one Nathan. Any means to stop dusting is a winner in my book. 👍
Cheers mate. Sure things. I'm getting a bit of push back in regards to the sizing and possible restriction of air flow. But, I'm not one for running the car at 4500RPM and would rather catch the dust when low range 4WD'ing in the low RPM range.
For modern cars with Turbocharger in sandy environment is Cyclone almost necessity! Owner is clever 👍
Thanks mate! Great little addition that gives me some peace of mind 👍
Thanks for posting this vid. I've just dropped one of these pre filters on my LC 200 @ 100k. Check out the Project 200 guy as he does a review too.
Cheers mate. Yeah, I do follow the Project 200 channel. Some food stuff on there 👍
I know this was for demonstration of debris but one should always wet rinse and wet wipe the plastic so to keep it clear.
I have tried that previously, however I've found that it becomes opaque quite quickly regardless of the products I've use to clean it 🤔
They're the ugliest thing in the world where however on mine sites and heavy industry these awesome units are all you will see
For sure, they definitely aren't pretty. But if they help the engine breath cleaner air, I'll take that compromise.
Great job as usual with your videos.
Thanks Nick, appreciate it mate 👍 Cheers, Nathan.
Have the same one but have not been in the dirt to see its effectiveness. A good extension to your Video would have been to also open up the factory airbox and show its condition as well.
They are good things mate! Yeah, I do have a video coming comparing some previous air filters and the air box / dusting situation. 👍
So it won't be prevent dusting? have you checked your airbox post filter / inlet for fine dusting?
It won’t prevent the issue, but it will assist. It will help by keeping the air filter cleaner between changes, resulting in higher air flow through the element. I have another video I will be releasing in 2 weeks regarding my air box situation. 👍
What’s dusting?
According to Berima Diesel, the 7 inch works even better than the 10 inch. I run a 7 inch and love it!
Nice, this is something I can't comment on as I haven't personally tested it, but if it's working for you, that is all that matters!
Cheers, Nathan.
I'm late to the comment but I'm curious as to how?
I currently have a 7" but I am thinking of upgrading to a 10"
From the tech data available, it looks like the 10" provides superior performance in all aspects. Better filtration and much higher CFM which for a diesel is important.
It needs to spin fast enough, but not so fast that it becomes restrictive. Sizing is important. Bigger is not better.
Is there one for 4 cylinder cars ? I have a snorkel I am putting on my over land Vw bus and would like one if these . Cheers and great video
Hey mate, they do offer a few different sizes. I would probably recommend getting in touch with Donaldson themselves and seeing what they recommend, I'm sure they could provide much better technical info than me 👍
Great vid .better the dust is on the paper and not in air filter ,Toyota air filters need all the help they can get.what Safari snorkel do you have the V spec or the Armax . I fitted a V spec what is the part # of your Donaldson unit.
Thanks Ian.
Cheers mate. I agree, everything we can do to help these filters the better.
So on my cruiser, I have fitted the Armax snorkel, just for a little more airflow, especially if I choose to do more performance mod's in the future.
So there are a couple of different models that Donaldson produce for the ARMAX and there are arguments for and against both (smaller and larger) sizes. I chose to go the smaller size, therefore theoritically being more efficient in the lower RPM with the potential it may restrict airflow in the higher RPM. Alternately you could go the larger size, this would eliminate any chance of restriction, however potentially loosing efficient at lower RPM. Personally, I would like to see maximum efficiency at lower RPM, usually where the engine sits when 4WD'ing and creating dust.
I use model H000858 for my ARMAX and I am lead to believe the H000821 suits the V-spec versions.
Cheers, Nathan.
Mate do you know the part number for your filter, i realise it is some time ago but one must ask. Thanks
Hey mate, so the part I used was: H000858
Cheers, Nathan
Awesome vid mate. Wish I saw it before the purchase of my 200. I would have set up things a little differently. Keep up the fantastic work!
Thanks mate, appreciate the support! 👍 Cheers, Nathan.
Tks again Nathan. Great info
Thanks Jim 👍
