    One of the great last episodes of this show, it being in Season 5, and it also being near the end of season. Wish Don would have stuck around a little longer, the show wouldn't be the same after he left.

      He wanted to stick around but Andy told him in the beginning that he only wanted to do the show for 5 seasons and then end it. So Don only signed a 5 year contract. Andy decided to keep the show going but it was too late for Don by then in his contract. He couldn’t get out of it.

      Season 6,7and 8 weren't that bad. Don Knott's did many of the episodes. They developed some of the other characters . They did ok .

    • @eduardo_corrochio
      @eduardo_corrochio Год назад +1

      The last three seasons, which only featured Barney Fife a couple of times when he briefly visited Mayberry or was visited by Andy, were so-so ... and some of it was dreadful stuff, to be frank. Not the same as the first five seasons, of course, but still watchable overall. And there are a few fun episodes, at least for my money, including _Dinner at Eight_ in which Andy suffers through at least three big spaghetti dinners in one evening because of Goober's stupidity.
      They obviously brought in the character of Warren to become "the new Deputy Fife" character in some ways, but I guess no one liked him at all; he was gone even before the next season started. To be dropped after only eleven episodes, man, that is fast. The show brought in a friend for Opie, Arnold, who seemed like he just moved to the South from The Bronx (with that accent) but he didn't add anything good to the series either.
      The last three seasons clearly struggled to remain quality sitcom fare but could not do it. This era of TAGS was not 100% dreck, but it contains some of the weirdest and worst episodes of the entire run (Goober growing a beard and thinks he is smart because of it, Opie and Arnold find a baby and then _hide it_ from everyone, and so on and so on). It almost felt like the best writers left just when Don Knotts did.

    IMHO one of the best-written episodes, especially in the way it makes such good use of supporting cast members: Helen - it's consistent with her character that she would be initially outraged thinking that Andy was being chauvinistic toward her and stubbornly refuse his attempts to set the record straight - but afterward be understanding and even entertained by his recounting of the story; Floyd and Goober - it's hilarious and totally believable that they would take seriously Barney and his fascination with the paranormal: Opie - he shows his character's growing maturity in how he doesn't quite buy in to Barney's excitement in the Count in spite of his wishes coming true. The episode is also very efficient the way it tells a fairly intricate tale and wraps everything up neatly with a great comic twist finish all within 30 minutes.

    This is one of my favorite episodes, and one reason is Barney being right and Andy being wrong. Episodes like Haunted House show Barney believing in something completely crazy, and Andy puts him right back down to reality by proving him wrong. Here though, it’s the exact opposite.

    I like the idea of them trying to summon a spirit. A deputy sheriff and two friends holed up kid-like in the dark in the back of the courthouse. It reinforced the idea of Mayberry as crime-free and sleepy.

      Yes. I wonder what that musical instrument is. It sounds like a xylophone, but it's not. A vibraphone is the same in a way but, much more elaborate. It has pipes like an organ, the plates, can go up, Leslie speakers. But this instrument may be a marimba, but, I'm not sure.

      Hang on-- a Count, in Transylvania ... interesting. ;-)
