    This is great to see for the rest of us in Denver who want to take a Rivian to Winter Park one day! There are a few lever 2 chargers in the parking garage in the village, if needed.

    • @RivianDad
      @RivianDad  Год назад +2

      The last couple of times I’ve gone there I only charged up to 85%. One of these days I’ll just charge to 70, but I like to have a little bit of buffer. But yes, that was a pleasant surprise. Would probably also make it pretty easily to Vail and back on a full charge. I haven’t tried that yet though. Thanks for watching.

    • @chuckm260
      @chuckm260 Год назад +1

      Are you referring to the chargers in parking lot B? If so, don't forget there is a $20 parking lot fee you have to pay and the chargers may not even be available.

    • @soapyd2
      @soapyd2 Год назад +1

      @@chuckm260 correct, but parking is free from 3pm to 7am. If you have dinner that might make sense for a bit of charge. They are probably ICEd during many day hours.

    Hey Scott, I just returned from a 3700 mi road trip out west including CO - Winter Park, Copper Mtn, Steamboat - in my R1S w/ 22"s. It handled great especially with snow mode. When roads were clear I drove in Conserve mode. I also experienced the "Regen will be decreased ..." message on the downhills even after the battery was warmed up and the battery no where near full. IMO, this appears to be a bug to me. Quite honestly, I can't stand the inconsistent pedal mapping of the regen braking. Rivian really needs to adjust this behind the scenes with the software so we, the driver, can have a predictable expectation from the regen braking. Too many times I was counting on the regen braking to be there and it wasn't. That hesitation caused a few undesired delayed reactions from me to than have to apply the brakes. This is not safe in my book. In addition, Rivian really needs to get a handle on the vampire drain. Losing too much charge overnight, especially if the vehicle is parked outside in the cold. ... Anyhow, I'll be back out in CO for some spring skiing at Snowmass and maybe Winter Park again. Maybe I'll see ya on the slopes!

      I’ve only experienced that “Regen will be reduced” message once coming downhill on 70 into Denver. It was odd and I agree totally changed the drive in an unsettling way!

    It looks like you have OEM AT tires, rather than snow, and are running pressures on the street far lower than the 48 Rivian recommends. So if you throw it around like a sports car in the snow and ice, expect some curb rash eventually! 😀

    Hi Scott. You have switched your 20 and 22" wheels. Could you let me know if (and by how much) the ride quality on the S improved going from 22 to 20" and conversely how much (if nay) the ride quality reduced going from 20 to 22" on your T. I test drive an S yesterday after having rented a T and notice a difference but the S was on 22 and the T on 20s so that likely contributed to some of the difference. Would appreciate your opinion on how much of the difference (I rated the S 7 out of 10 vs 9 or 10 out of 10 for the T on ride comfort).

    Been watching your vids for a while now. Thanks for the useful content. I see that you switched from the 22’s to the 20 AT wheels/tires from the R1T. The 20AT has a bigger diameter. Did you have Rivian recalibrate/change the tire setting? Have you noticed any speedo inaccuracies? I have 22s as well but thinking of a winter setup with 20s and 275/65 tires. Thanks and keep up the good work.

    • @RivianDad
      @RivianDad  4 месяца назад

      First, thanks for watching! It’s nice to know people get something out of it. As for the tires: I have the 20s back on the R1T (that’s where they were originally but I put them on the S for a bit). I have some winter tires (Nokian) that I will be putting on shortly. I also have some Nokian tires for the R1S (22s). I think both are going to be good. I don’t see the need to switch from 22s to 20s (although there’s also nothing wrong with that from my perspective). You can get good snow tires in either size. But, snow tires are a must if you live with snowy roads in the winter! I think I’ll have to do a vid about the snow tires soon!

    • @D--T
      @D--T 4 месяца назад

      Thanks@@RivianDad. A vid about snow tires would be great. It's been a struggle to find snow tires with a load index of 116 and up for the Rivian. Costco here won't even install a 115 load index tire. I will likely get a 275/60 R20 (Michelin X-Ice 115 index), dedicated 20 rims and just find a shop willing to install them (my local Discount Tire perhaps). Safe driving!

    Interesting to see the size comparison of the S against the Chevy pickup and GMC SUV in the WP parking lot. The S appears significantly smaller, which to my thinking is a good thing. I'll be picking up my limestone R1S in early September, and plan plenty of ski trips this winter, so fun to watch your video. Thanks.

    • @RivianDad
      @RivianDad  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching! Yeah, I tend to agree. The size is actually a good compromise between sizable enough to have plenty of space inside, but not too big to struggle when you’re in the parking lots.

    Very informative video, the Rivian seems to be very inefficient. Going downhill seems to be worse efficiency than a Model X driving flat. I hope that by the time my Rivian order is up that they have a heat pump so it is more efficient.

  • @KeithHowells
    @KeithHowells Год назад +1

    Looks awesome! Any details on why downsizing to 20” vs 22” would be less efficient?

    • @RivianDad
      @RivianDad  Год назад +1

      Rivian says the 20 AT wheels/tires are a little less efficient than the 22s. I imagine it has to do with the tread patterns. Mostly, possibly the materials, and the weight as well. In real life, I think we’re seeing that the tire differences (with regards to efficiency) are very small.

    • @chuckm260
      @chuckm260 Год назад +1

      Rivian’s documents say you lose 5-10% of that range with 22s and 10-15% with the 20-inch Pirelli Scorpion all-terrain tires.

    680Wh/mi on the way there and 408Wh/mi on way home. What is your typical Wh/mi or mi/kWh when driving around Denver?
    I just put a res on an R1S but also have a Cybertruck res since Nov '19

    • @RivianDad
      @RivianDad  Год назад +1

      Lifetime average (5k miles) is 1.99 mi/kWh. Note that the truck (10k miles) is a bit higher, about 2.1 mi/kWh but much of the R1S miles have been in the winter.

    I had a battery cold warning as well, but pulling out of my garage at 54 degrees F. Seemed odd, but assuming that will be fixed, so no biggie.

    • @chuckm260
      @chuckm260 Год назад

      I've also had that message appear, along with actual regen braking reduced, after driving for at least an hour and the battery was no where near full. IMHO this is a bug Rivian needs to look into. Will be reporting it to them shortly. You might want to consider doing the same. Only way they're going to know to investigate.

    • @RivianDad

      I was going about 10 mph when the slide started. The angle of the wheel matched the curb so a lot of force went into tweaking it just the wrong direction.
