I love “Push Da Button”, “Hell No”, “I'm Here”, “Ms. Celie's Blues (Sister)”, and “What About Love”. The movie is amazing and the music truly helps to guide the audience to understanding Celie's pains & triumphs.
I love the musical, but the original movie was so hard hitting that I can’t imagine it being better and I kind of don’t want to see it because it was perfect and did not need to be remade. I will eventually see it and change my mind, but my God that original moved my soul.
The musical is closer to the book than the original film. The movie musical allows more freedom for Celie & Shug's relationship to blossom, plus it really uplifts Celie's perspective so much more. It's a beautiful film-and, in my opinion, is better than the original.

I love the 2023 version though some of the songs like lily of the field, African Homeland,Too Beautiful For Words and many others in the musical would’ve been powerful in the movie but I get it with the timing and direction of the movie still it was exceptional!
