Yes, keep it. It's been in your family for years. If you are not going to keep it then sell it, give it away the way it is. If you keep it don't go crazy fixing it up. Make it usable and preserve it as best you can.
Sad to sell a family heirloom... I almost subscribed until I heard you say you all ready had it sold.... A real shame... keep the jeep and sell the grand national...
I think it's awesome you are rebuilding an old piece of American history like you are. Honestly given as old as that frame is i would say powder coat it no matter what
Keep it!! Reweld the front, you can add a plate to the outside to help make it more stiff, do your self a favor, replace the clutch and pressure plate and throw out bearings, replaced all the ground cables, seal the frame totally, might even check on under coat it!!
There's a good connection with the wife too if she likes it. I would pass it on if you can't store it properly. I would keep the sxs and would not have room for another toy.
Keep the JEEP at home, it is the BEST Utility Vehicle you can ever dream of. It is cheap, easy to maintain, far more reliable & fun than any other vehicle you can ever imagine. (From Denmark) BarakBees.
Thats a clean flat fender frame. I'd fix the weld upfont and add a little filler plate over the rear section and paint it. No need to blow it apart and sandblast it. Also I'd keep it.
I would do the complete tear down of the engine and rebuild. Repair the frame & powder coat too. You have too much history with this jeep! Keep it. Find a different one for your friend!
I agree with these other subscribers Josh. You need to update to a 12 volt system. It’s a good idea. I also agree to keep the Jeep as part of the family is also a good idea. Good luck on deciding.
12 Volts-if for no other reason than it'll save having to haul a Cat battery around all Winter to jump-start everything else and feed the 2K power inverter to run your power tools on....Keep the 6V starter,too-as long as you don't crank it too long it'll last for years and turn the engine fast enough to start easily in ANY weather.
that ground wire may be your starter problem . your missing the band around the starter . get purple at TSC for the degreaser . i would leave the 6v starter on and put a 1 wire gm alt on the jeep that combo works great . . got a bunch of those jeeps up here thats the jeep in fricknjeep . (the frick is for sawmills ) look how to work on an Willys Jeep on Y/T if you need any parts let me know . i still have a few parters left take care john
I enjoy your Jeep videos, if it was me I'd be keeping it after putting all the work and money into it besides that it's child hood memory that you have with it. Thanks for sharing
I think you'll get the message Josh, this old girl has been part of your life for ever, it's in you genes! Keep it, but keep it as original as you can---OK? Best wishes from the Emerald Isle"
Great job!!! I think keep it being it was your fathers. Once its gone from your hands its gone for ever.. Keep up great work. Much love and best wishes from Canada!! Peace
You made me start saving up some money for a farm of my own. Thanks fo the vlogs they make my day and learn for what you did or didn’t do. Keep up the great work
My dad bought a seed drill made by John Deer and its set in the barn for 8 years and never messed with. I asked him if we was going to use it and he said most likely not LOL. I would keep it because all the hard work you have put into it.
What if sand blast and powder coating costs more than $2000 Would that change anybodies mind? We all know what the best is...but is it necessary? It's lasted almost 70 years so far right? Still on the fence about it myself...
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer sandblasting will uncover any thin spots on the frame that may need attention before further resto. If you go with the blasting I would remove the engine and tranny as well.
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer in the long run its all up to you what you do with the jeep. Its all good as long as you have some fun and do not go to overboard. Either way I look forward to seeing the videos and what you end up doing with it
Was just about to suggest the same thing. Most of these companies that do the rebuilds, don't do fantastic jobs and it tends to be better to bite the bullet and buy new, as you'll only be needing something sorting within the year if you're lucky. So might as well go 12v
I drive a '49 that I returned to 6 volt from some hack job 12 volt conversion. Willys engineers were far smarter than farmers, cowboys and backyard engineers. BTW mine starts just fine at below 0.
Not knockin the 12v conversion BUT the 6v system is just as good as the 12v in fact the 6v wiring is heavier and direct replacement parts for a resto are easy to find and will last just as long. 12v radio's and lights deff kick more a!
As to the frame 12 one way half dozen then other. Only thing id do, repair the from cross bar. And throw a coat on the frame. As for keeping. Keep the darn thing, Bet you cold beer ! After you're first test drive around the farm after its all done, you and the wife will love it too much to let go of it. Same goes with my 48 F1 ford pickup. Got it running and driving, drove it around the farm and feel in love along with my wife. So much that my wife and I are looking for a vintage truck project for her. Great videos Happy Friday
Josh, it's been in the family for many years. If you let it go you'll regret it everyday, trust me because I have personally been through a situation just like you are in. Best of luck to you!
A man is only as good as his word Josh. If you promised it to your friend you are honor bound to stick with it unless he's totally ok with you backing out.. Build Popcorn like it was going to be your own and then make sure you give it to your best friend....That is what I would do....makes it easier to look at the guy in the mirror each day.....
I think you should keep it because all that sweat and blood your investing in it and like someone else said it was your daddys jeep. Not to mention it will get around good anywhere on the farm. Your gonna love it I think and plus all you been through fixing it up its pretty cool.
Sell the gator and use the jeep for its replacement. It will do all the work the gator can and it's 4WD. It can be a great farm utility ATV on steroids.
This video popped up as I am working on my 70 mustang watching it as the oil and fluid so I can put in a new timing chain cover gasket and water pump while I'm at it and oils pan gasket
I would just spray frame and axles black it doesent take much to do it I ubuy spray cans a lot cheaper. When you get it done with whole project then decide if you want to keep it or not
Josh the frame on popcorn looks really good have it sand blasted and power code it is still in real good shape. Josh if I was you I would keep popcorn it’s one of kind hard to find.
You've got some serious classics there, I would have to keep all 3 of them. If you let one go you'll never be able to replace them, especially the Olds, I'd let one of the other pick-ups go over those 3.
I think you should keep it. The other guy should have bought it and fix it up himself if he wanted it... that's a nice jeep. Keep it in the family.. love the videos. Learning alot. Thank you so much
I think I'm building more memories restoring it than I did riding around in it when I was a kid.....I'll announce on friday whether I'm letting it go or keeping it....I have to have a conversation with my friend who is wanting to buy it
Keep the Jeep. I had 3 universals over the years, a war era GPW made by Ford, a 53’ CJ3A and a 61’ CJ3B, and I miss them all. Now I have A Grand Cherokee. But I drool over the restored older ones. Keep it!

That cracked weld in the front is similar to the cracked weld on my dads 73 cj-5. We just buzzed it shut with a stick welder when we rebuilt it and it’s holding up just great and dandy
KEEP IT!!!!!! Keep 'em all. Most of, actually all of my toys are gone. Health issues and financial issues (caused by the health issues) made it necessary to sell whatever we couldn't eat. Keep 'em 'til you can't.
I would have piced the gravel drive as the place to wash. No mud splattering up. You can easily see rusted metal falling off. Just take over gravel to clean spot after you are done.
I was a bit surprised when you first mentioned letting it go! I'm sure it would be tough to go back on a promise, but they, I would think, understand your situation. If I had just one of the cars my grampa had...Good luck!
Josh , on that starter problem... make sure your primary ground is hooked directly from the battery to the engine and at least a 4 awg and then from the engine to the frame and a small from the engine to the body .... just some friendly advice from Mechanic Mike

That frame is in such good shape, I would say keep it and fix the small issues
