17th when he took over, & now he's won Bayer04 their first ever league title after only a yr & a half. Not to mention an unbeaten record in ALL COMPS. Truly something special, whoever gets him next is so so lucky.

Winning the Bundesliga for Leverkusen was not just for the fans who live nor did not lived to see it happening, but for all around the word. I agree as a german dortmund fan I can only congrat leverkusen.They completely won the league in style. So much fun to watch and I am pretty excited to see them perform in champions league next season with Xabi as coach. One of the most exciting teams in europe right now + they keep the key players together and will have plenty of money from winning the league. They also most likely win the german cup and might even win the europe leauge. So they can be very active with transfers.

Ever since it started to look like Leverkusen could win it this year, I was hoping for it to happen to honour all the old heroes that Leverkusen had in their (ultimately unsuccessful) era on the late 90s/early 2000s.
The fact that Alonso mentions the managers back then (Daum and Toppmöller) in the very first sentence of this interview says so much about him.

People tend to focus on this season alone but what an incredible thing he and the players have done since last season. They rose steadily from 17th to 6th place and then following season, improved on it, kept the momentum to the point where they won the league UNBEATEN and still in Europa. I really hope he is the one to replace Ancelotti like Perez is planning.

In my opinion, Leverkusen winning the league is a great thing for the Bundesliga. Similar to the way the tides turned in Italy when Juve's dominance was ended and now Serie A is alot more competitive rn, the bundesliga may go under such a transformation.
