    Bayer Leverkusen prior to this season had only won 2 major honors 1988 UEFA Cup on penalties over Español (renamed Espanyol in 1994) and the 1993 DFB Pokal over Hertha Berlin (Amateurs) now in 2024 they can at least double their trophy cabinet in one season absolutely incredible

    • @fr0ntend
      @fr0ntend 8 месяцев назад +68

      Xabi alonso might help them increase their trophy cabinet by 150% in a single season lol, that's insane. Then we can mention if they go on to win the rest of their remaining 9 matches, they will achieve the single biggest feat ever seen in football history. No other team in history has won their domestic league, league cup and UEFA league without losing a single match.

    You could speculate that Leverkusen next season won’t suffer from the usual case of a rising club where lots of talents are leaving due to rising recognition like Napoli e.g. - because that Alonso train is moving very promisingly that there’s hardly somewhere more promising to go. They will be dangerous in the champions league and be able to acquire more talent and squad depth. I certainly do hope so. Wirtz could follow Alonso to the next destination once it’s time.

    There are so many things my mind still has to settle on as a 15 year long fan of Bayer Leverkusen. As someone who loves to look at stats, this video weirdly made it sink in that in future looking at the Bundesliga titles, there will be a name on that list with an amazing background in how it came to be. At first it may be obvious that these things naturally come with it, but once it really sinks in, there is some special feeling about it. Once they get to lift the actual trophy, I'm almost certain the emotions similar to the game against Werder Bremen, will come rushing back.

The rest of us around the world are cheering for you to win the Europa League and German cup, and remain unbeaten for 50 games, to make it the most impressive achievement by a football team in modern time - considering they weren't favourites to win any of the titles. I don't want to minimise Leverkusen's success; in sporting terms, the championship was well deserved. Of course, Leverkusen made some very good transfers and was courageous. Just like Dortmund with Jürgen Klopp back then. To complete the picture, however, one must at least mention that Leverkusen had a competitive advantage due to the Bayer Group, as the Bayer Group absorbed the Covid losses while other clubs had to absorb these losses themselves. Leverkusen were therefore able to reinvest all their transfer income in the squad.

      With that mindset, it is no surprise that Bayern won so many titles in a row. How can you compete with Bayern without investment like this? Bayern has worldwide sponsorship and merchandise deals. To achieve that you need to win a lot. To add insult to injury Bayern got Neuer, and Lewandowski for free
