To unlock pull sparkplug and squirt Marvel Mystery Oil in cylinders to soak frozen piston rings. Then work on rotating the assembly, good luck. BTW nice job on clean up.
I would absolutely make a "survivor class" car out of it. Just patch the floor and get all the mechanics working safety. If I saw this car at a show, I'd be all over it!
First car I really remember - my mom had a 52 much like this. Really makes the memories...This one is not too bad. Good old stovebolt - she drove it until 1962.
Just turned 80 years old. My first car I bought when I was 16 was a 51 Chevy. Paid $75 for it. Thinking you should leave it stock and put a small block v/8 in it.
From the time this car was towed to the shop, to the finished product, looks simply amazing! To unfreeze the engine, suggest remove the plugs then squirt generous amounts of say Marvel Mystery Oil let it sit for a few days but keep tugging at it from time to time. hope it will loosen up. My take on the subject, from first video, its been in a fender bender, i would try to loosen up engine, then load it on the trailer and head out to a collector car swap meet with a For Sale sign...here in Los Angeles, we have the Pomona Swap Meet. All the best...
This car is in good enough condition that it deserves a proper restoration, not a distorted butchering. If you haven't the time, funds or desire to do this, I suggest you sell it to someone that does.
I agree. Steam scrubbing a rubber mat over a rotten floor is brilliant. It needs to go to someone whose skills extend beyond washing and filming. Don't patch the floor don't touch the motor, Just sell it
Amazing job cleaning up the car! I Totally agree on your plan Dane. When I watched the first video I thought the frame could probably be saved. Warning: I found this out the hard way, pull the valve cover and check for stuck valves before you try to turn over the engine. I didn't do that in a '41 Chevy and it broke a couple of rocker arms. Can't just go to NAPA and buy new ones. 😅 Drive it and have some fun!
I'm always intrigued by all these old vintage cars... It takes me back to time when they used to ply on the roads. It will be a great thing if government makes some policy to reintroduce old vintage cars in the market.
Outstanding clean up! And I completely understand your situation but once you get it running and on the road this car has to be restored by someone who can. This is truly a piece of art that simply isn't produced anymore. Probably never will be again. Not in the mainstream industry.
Check out Derek on Vice Grip Garage, an American channel I subscribe to. Derek and Jessica, his wife resurrect old cars from all over the country and drive them back to where he lives now. They used to live in North Dakota and moved to near Tennessee. Derek will give you all the information you need on what and how to fix up your cars. I'm probably one of your furthest away subscribers in Foxton, New Zealand and joined today 9th April. All the best.
😄try and not let that seat bite ya!! That was a funny one first in.✌Those foot peddles don't have much wear, the car must have low miles..? You got'er cleaned up real nice... Try sprayin' some Marvel Mystery Oil in those cylinders, leave those plugs out and try and turn it over. "Keep'er original" is my point of view...Cheers!
Pour marvel mystery oil and pb blaster in the spark plug holes and let it sit for a few days. Glad you are going fix it. New subscriber .. other detail channels usually just detail them. I’m going to like this channel for sure
I think those seat covers were aftermarket. I have seen those in many cars from that period. It was common for the old materials to wear out early, so a lot of car owners would buy these seat covers.
Wish I could afford to buy it from you. Had a '52 4-door I bought for $10 when I was 16. Went through the whole process you're going through with your car. I'll admit I was lucky buying that car as Dad and I drove it back to our house from the barn we found it in. Put a lot of work into it but it was worth it. Find a good 235 or 250 6 cylinder if it's locked up. All the savable stuff (manifolds, generators, and starters will swap right into whatever 6 you choose. You might wanna wire up some electric wipers because vacuum wipers really suck. Ask my kid sister when she drove my car home from school in a snowstorm! Good luck with the car.
A 1960's-era Chevy six would be the way to go. Parts are still available, especially the ones that also fit the 283 engine. I noticed that the Chevy had a six volt battery. Don't know if it would be wise to attempt an upgrade to 12 volt.
@@JamesFranklin-hd4tm 12 volt is definitely the was to go with these cars. Those 6 volt lighting systems just won't cut it on today's roads. Funny you should mention the '60s GM sixes. That's what I put into my '52 sedan after my sister spun a bearing trying to get the car out of a snowbank. Bought the carcass of a '64 Chevy a friend of mine owned that had been stripped when it broke down in a really bad neighborhood. The remains had a 230 cube unit that I swapped into my sedan. The swap worked so well that we used it to pull our camper on a family vacation one year. I wound up selling the car to finance another project I had at the time. I saw my car one last one after I sold it in '72. I saw it at a gas station in 1986. The young man whose brother bought my car was quite surprised when I told him all about it. Bet it's still running around out there today.
Well sir, as long as the frame is in relatively good condition and the mechanicals are all there. I would get the car in good reliable shape to drive (if this is out of your realm then network with someone who can do this for you after an assessment of the condition of the engine). I do not know what your skill levels are but I would not go into a complete frame off restoration if you do not have the facilities and the time to delve into this. The rust repair where necessary and a good standard re-paint would do the job. Fixing the interior would make the car more enjoyable to drive. And of course this does not need to be done all at one time. Will be interesting to follow this as the car appears to be a good candidate for a reliable driver.
Take the spark plugs out and fill the cylinders up with Marvel Mystery Oil and let it sit for a day or two. And that should loosen up the Pistons that are most likely seized up
ATF down all the cylinders though the spark plug holes, let it sit for a day or two, then take a breaker bar and try to rock the crank pulley. If it doesn’t at least move and do a full rotation you’ll have a nice boat anchor. And honestly I would’ve just yanked the seats and started pressure washing that interior, at least as a start.
Also another last ditch option would be to get the brakes all free and then have someone pull you with a truck while its in gear push the clutch in and somewhat SLOWLY let the clutch out. Do not just bomb the clutch because you could bend a rod or break pushrods if they are stuck. Where are you located by the way i could come help you get it going.
You could try to rock the crankshaft back & Forth Gently, at the driveshaft, or, get it rolling and try to use the gears to free it up, if those don't work, try soaking the cylinders with some light oil or diesel. Checking to see if the valves are freed up is a good move..216 cu. in engines used dipper style lubrication, ,not as efficient as a 235 Cu. in. and finding another engine is getting tough
Definitely dont throw thousands at it. Like you said brakes, engine, keep the patina maybe clear over patina. Its old and cool but not a desirable model. Wd-40 works in stuck engines if that helps. Also ya got a new sub today 😁
Ok first thing you wanna do is pull the spark plugs. Then pour atf down into the cylinders. Let that soak for a few days. Then pull the valve cover and soak everything with oil. Then you wanna put a breaker bar and socket ok the crankshaft nut after putting in neutral) if it moves great slowly turn it over 4 full revolutions. While checking to see all of the rockers have moved. If not put it in gear and rock the car back and forth. Then put a battery in and try to see if it will spin(key off push button on dash) then re install the spark plugs and change the oil. Then remove your distributor cap and clean the points. Bump the engine over till the points are shut and turn the key on. Remove the coil wire from the cap and place it near the engine block and manually open and shut the points. If it sparks then youre ignition system is good. Replace cap and wires. Now disconnect the fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump. Run a new line out to a gas tank temporarily. Then remove the fuel line on the carburetor and put a temporary line with a hose on it and fill with gas(or remove the top of the carb and fill the bowl about 3/4) this will save you from excessive cranking. Pour some gas down the carb throat as well and make sure the throttle moves by hand.
If it doesnt spin youll need to get to the flywheel and use a pry bar to try and turn the flywheel. If that doesnt work youll need to disassemble the engine and find out whats stuck and unstick it then lube and reassemble it(this wont cost you anything but it will be time consuming. As far as the brakes. You can get brake like and all that from yoir local parts store. The wheel cylinders you can take apart and rebuild. You will need to borrow or buy a wheel cylinder hone and hone them using brake fluid while doing so. Clean them with brake clean and lube with brake fluid and reassemble with the new rubber cups and seals. Being as it is a single cylinder brake system do not skimp on rebuilding everything because there is NO BACKUP in case of failure.
Remove the fuel tank(be mindful of the sending unit wire) and have the tank professionally cleaned out. Test for leaks by putting plugs in fuel line threads and if it leaks a radiator shop will be able to solder it up for you(once youve had it professionally dipped/cleaned) then hand paint with rustolium and undercoat. Re install the tank. If the straps are busted(i seem to remember them being busted) you can make some out of steel strap from the hardware store.
I would pull the spark plugs and top the cylinders up with marvel mystery oil letting it set for as long as you can before turning the engine. Turn by hand before using the starter.
you could find another chassis from another car from the same year or rebuild the frame and weld new metal on the spots that need reinforcing just an idea
Send it to me! I need yet another project! I love the colour. Please, I hope you find a way of saving this terrible old shitbox. Because thats what they are.
I am young but I have more projects than I can count t collecting since I was 15 😂 Yes I do agree with you! Gonna patch it up and get it driving and eventually go from there maybe do more down the road when funds are there 🚘💕
Does anyone here have a experience or a suggestion for a successful engine swap or replacement. I have the exact car and have been encouraged to get it to be a daily driver.

it's always fun scraping up a bunch of crap off an old interior right 😂 This turned out wayyyy better than I was expecting though!
Hello 👋
I Appreciate Homie! 🙏
It would be great to see this car on the road again.
That Is the most beautiful green I've ever seen on a car🤩
Get it running and drive it. That's a beautiful car!!
Absolutely!!! On the road again!!🎶🎵🎶🎵🔥👍🏽
Very nice. Interested to see you get the floor replaced and engine running.
Appreciate it! 🙌 Stay Tuned.. 📺
To unlock pull sparkplug and squirt Marvel Mystery Oil in cylinders to soak frozen piston rings. Then work on rotating the assembly, good luck. BTW nice job on clean up.
My thoughts exactly ,I would at least try to unseize the engine by putting WD 40 and letting it sit In there for awhile, sometimes you can luckout.
I would absolutely make a "survivor class" car out of it. Just patch the floor and get all the mechanics working safety. If I saw this car at a show, I'd be all over it!
Fine job, you are the perfect replacement for mad detailing, everyone gave up on him ❤
Excellent effort , viewing from 313 motor city Detroit Michigan USA 🇺🇸 .

I pretty much got this one for that price in 2024 😂 I appreciate the comment! Love history on these cars and story's. and V8? You talk my language 🚘💕
Nothing crazy, a 305 or 350 would be plenty to make this a cruiser. Even a rebuilt 6 banger would be nice!
Be aware you'd have to change the entire drivetrain including the rear end since these had torque tube drive originally.
Great idea, keep it as is, nice looking car!!
I thought so too! Be a fun driver 🚘

Don't believe it's had a complete repaint. I think it's more likely old collision damage and the front fenders were replaced with used ones.
Put some Marvel Mystery Oil (no one knows what’s in it, it’s a mystery!) in each spark plug hole and let it soak. LOL
I don't know how you got through that car! When you popped the trunk the smell about killed me at your shop!!! Beautiful work as always.🔥🔥
I could smell it in Arizona!! 😬
Don't patch the floor don't touch the motor, Just sell it
Get the 51 drivable, it would be tribute car. It could be a real money pit though.
Money pit is my middle name
this year is not very valuable, dont put too much in it.
Awesome green color
I have one the same color, I believe it is Brewster Green
Amazing job cleaning up the car!
I Totally agree on your plan Dane. When I watched the first video I thought the frame could probably be saved.

😂 I appreciate the advice! Thanks for Watching I appreciate it 🙏
The ninja move at 0:41 might be the best part of this whole video. IT WAS OUTSTANDING.
Wondering if you ever started it or when the next video is on it???
restore !!! oh please restore if you can.
Reach out to any of the rescue guys here on the tube . Junkyard Digs, Pole Barn Garage , Dylan McCool, Vice Grip Garage .
I vote Derek from vice grip garage. He knows how to actually fix things correctly
I'm always intrigued by all these old vintage cars... It takes me back to time when they used to ply on the roads. It will be a great thing if government makes some policy to reintroduce old vintage cars in the market.

Yes Marvel's mystery oil in the cylinders and let it soak
Nice man
I Appreciate! 🙌🙏
Suggest watching some Jennings Motorsports videos to learn how to unfreeze an engine that's locked up.

What kind of brush did you use for the seats? Great job
It's a Ryobi Drill & Brush. Only $60 at Home Depot for the Whole Unit 🔥
You should've kept the original floor mats there worth hundreds of dollars
Pour marvel mystery oil and pb blaster in the spark plug holes and let it sit for a few days. Glad you are going fix it. New subscriber .. other detail channels usually just detail them. I’m going to like this channel for sure
Nice 👍🚗❤️❤
I'm first in Belgium,very cool your job++++
OMG! What a big cutie 👏🥰
Pull the plugs and pump Marvel Mystery oil in the plug holes and let it sit for a few days.
I appreciate it! I will give that a try 👍
so good
Sell it to Cubans. They know how to get these back on the road. Cuba-bound man!

Pour wd 40 amd ATF down plug holes let set and try turning on crank. Nor try tow on chain in 3rd then pop clutch a few times
I would fix it up just like Davin on red line rebuild on the Hagerty you tube channel. It was a 51chevy pickup.
Those are seat covers from the 1960s im curious as to what the original seats are like underneath.
Sounds like fun to me
Maybe somebody can help with the engine I bet it will run
Were they driving it then? It looks like the plates say 68
Build a gasser out of her !!! And leave it as is !! But really like to see it on the road !!
Rebuilt the original engine, the fun on having a car like that is to drive it as if you were in the 50s
Part it out a lot of good parts or as you said put it on a another frame make it a new rid
That is 73 years old. Not 78. My dad was born in 1950.
Maybe sell it to Jay Leno.
hold on to it ...project car your young take your time.. get a new engine,,patch the floor/frame and keep it
I am young but I have more projects than I can count t collecting since I was 15 😂
Yes I do agree with you! Gonna patch it up and get it driving and eventually go from there maybe do more down the road when funds are there 🚘💕

I’ll buy it off from you
How much do you want as is where is
I HATE MICE.....🤮
58 years if it was parked in 1966.
Blue Flame 6 cylinder does not have such a great sound!
Great job but i think this car is great for decorations not on the road
Cars made when America was the real America😔
No restoration no fun .
Mñbbbbbbbn
👎👎👎👎😂
Dont like Clean
😜👋💙
It should be restored…
