  • I often use “Hail Mary” moves. If I get caught in back mount I always look how to finish my own leg lock. We call it “krest” (cross) and it’s often called “foot bar”.

I did this to purple belt who refused to tap. He insisted that it wasn't effective as he limped off the mat

In tournaments, the guys just wont tap to this unless they are caught completely off guard. Or are unfamiliar with the technique.
It's a hail mary move and you have to be clever in setting it up vs seasoned opponents. Can definitely work if you can feel that their choke setup has small gaps so you have time before passing out to crank the ankle lock.

May Blessings come your way, Prof. Ivan... Intently watching and learning Sambo from yu via RUclips has been a great blessing in a country (+254) where no grappling arts are ever taught.... I appreciate your selfless giving. May you find favour in all yu do, brother, Asalamu Alaikum. 👊🏾💪🏿

I actually broke someone's ankle with this technique. Do not do it with force, unless you hate the opponent 👍

Also I never crossed my feet to begin with because everybody in Bjj knows this But my opponent knew a way to make you cross your feet and he kept forcing my feet to cross and then he would use this move

I’ve had somebody do this to me In a tournament and it didn’t end up on my ankle but more slicing my calf and it hurt like hell when I acted like it did it until he stopped if you’re tough you won’t tap to this But like I said it wasn’t cranking on my ankle it was cranking more on my calf because I forced it forward forced it through I was in pain for over a week after this but I still won the match and he gave up on it I have it on video

Well, that's not true. Straight ankle locks are BJJ legal for whitebelts.
