Cutting up a Nissan 370Z Z34 manual transmission to make it fit on my SR20DET.
a bit of advice,wear ear covering when using any power tools over an extended period. Take it from me. hearing aids are expensive and a pain to deal with. Love your channel!

Thanks for the little bit about motivating yourself with your builds. My garage is constantly alive with work but I know a lot of dudes that loose motivation and their builds become stagnant. whats the name or brand of that s15 bell housing kit for the z transmission?
Will be interesting if you get the dreaded noise from the box. Mine makes a hell of a racket
They are just noisy transmissions. Have to remember that z33 and z34 have basically two firewalls between you and the trans and much better sound damping materials used also, that’s why they are more quiet in a Z than an S chassis. Also the VQ engine is smoother and has less vibration than the SR.

Looks like that bell housing is made with some new age powdered metallurgy or whatever that makes it look like the texture of styrofoam

You could probably use thin copper drain plug gaskets on the bell housing bolts

How do you ensure the cam wheel stays at TDC after you alter the tension? Only done cam belts so far not chains.
You don’t remove the chain from the gears when doing the tensioner so the timing is not affected.
Drum with flammable label, continues to grind bell housing on top of it.

He’s doing a Link ecu on the S15 no need for the oem cluster.

With this gearbox, will the speedometer still work?
S15 speed sensor is in the rear differential
If you don’t have an S15 differential for speed signal you can use an ABS sensor in the front or rear knuckle for wheel speed. There is also a driveshaft speed sensor available from LOJ.

The 370Z transmission is designed to fit a VQ engine, this car runs an SR20 motor, so needs a different bell housing. Most gearboxes even from the same manufacturer are not inter changeable between different engine families without detail changes.
